We'd recommend it for a good steak house. There are other non-steak places in Durham which are just as good but lower priced.
First time at NanaSteak. Steak was good but nothing special for the price.
The wait staff and hosts were very pleasant and efficient. The young bread guy was fun (and the bread was good!).
We enjoyed our meal and were out in good time to go to DPAC.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice. The service was good. The food; with my meal, the menu description said Roasted NZ Lamb Rack. I received two pieces of Lamb, so two lamb chops with the size of the edible portion being approximately 2 inches in diameter. I don't know, but I expected something a little different, like, a rack of lamb.
My side was the Creamy Local Greens. They were rather soupy, on the watery side. If that's they was they should be served, then disregard this part of the review. I expected something more like creamed spinach. I know the greens weren't spinach. The waiter told me that. So anyway, that's my review.
Thank you for making our Five year wedding anniversary memorable.
Wonderful time at Nanasteak! Delicious NY strip and potato purée. The carrot cake dessert was incredible. We will definitely be dining with Nanasteak again soon.
Food was great! Service too! Was able to relax and enjoy before heading over to DPAC!
It was quite loud because of the open dining space, however everything else was great!
The food was as great as always, however the steaks were not as good as they normally are. Where not cooked to temperature and were both overdone, however everything else was great, including the best macaroni and cheese I have ever had, which we always get to share. The main disappointment in this trip was the service. The main server was good at his job, but was not spectacular. This was the first time that we have come here to celebrate a birthday, and I was expecting the typical dessert with candle, which the table beside us got, but not us. A server brought the dessert collectively to the table beside ours and ours, and said “I believe there was a birthday over here” and looked at both of our tables, and the one couple to the side of us chimed in quickly saying “yes, it’s mine.” I wasn’t sure if it was actually her birthday, but I would think the server would bring the birthday dessert with candle to the one specific table, not to two and have the table say who’s birthday it was, when there were in fact possibly two birthdays between the two tables. This was just a small nit picky thing that differentiated this meal from others I have had on a special occasion. Attention to detail is important when you are spending 200+ dollars on a meal for two. Everything else was great, and will return; just hoping for a little more attention to detail the next time around.
Very good meal and outstanding service. The delivery of the food was well paced, and we did not feel rushed or ignored. Everyone's entree was fantastic. Can't wait to go back again!
A friend and I wanted a comfortable dinner to celebrate my 76 birthday. The meal, the ambience, and the service (Sokol) were al excellent.
My wife and I thank you for a great dining experience!
Seated immediately, great service, interesting side options, very good good that was well-prepared. We’ll go back!
Took an hour to get dinner after ordering.
Contemporary restaurant , great cuisine with a good selection. , very attentive service, tables for 2 persons a bit close together
Everything about my first visit here was excellent. The atmosphere and service were outstanding. I split a salad and the meat balls With my husband and both were excellent. I had the filet with fingerling potatoes, the steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly! We split the dessert special of strawberry shortcake and that was delicious as well. Nothing to complain about here, everything exceeded expectations.
My daughter wanted to try a high-end steak restaurant for her birthday, and NanaSteak delivered. The steaks were melt-in-your-mouth tender (we each had the filet), the sides would have been worth the price on their own, and the desserts (key lime pie and strawberry shortcake) were beautifully presented and amazing. Dinner for 2 can get pricey, but I knew that going in, and it was all definitely worth it. And now she knows what a Real steak tastes like! I may be in trouble now :)
We went and tried the Sunday brunch which starts at 10:30. My wife had the quiche with salad selection ($12.50), and I had the pancakes, 2 sausage patties, she also had a fresh fruit side ($4), & a mimosa ($10). Our food selections came out together, and were all very good. Hits from the 70's were playing in the background at a moderate level which we enjoyed. We plan to go back again, and will take some friends with us.
The overall experience was awesome. The food was so tender and tasty. The waitress was very attentive. Definitely will be going back.
Great service and the food may not be the best in town but it is certainly worth the price. Well run and so convenience to DPAC.
Good food and good service, I would go back and recommend it to friends
Experience was excellent. Wish it were open for lunch.
Will be back...
Wonderful experience from time entered and greeted by hostess to the time we left. Waiter very good and attentive. Salads, main entrees and dessert all were well time with no long delays. Salads were Caesar and and the Bibb Wedge, both generous proportions and fresh and tasty. Entrees were 8 oz Black Angus Prime Rib with broccolini and pork chop with horseradish cream and Yukon Gold Potato Puree. Both servings were generous, but not overbearing, flavorful and served hot. The steak melted in one's mouth, which is now an expectation when dining here. The potato puree was superb. Dinner was finished with a a different take on a lemon cheesecake -- the crust is on the side. Comes with blueberries and blackberries.
Went to NanaSteak for a very special occasion, and was mildly disappointed. We were so happy; but our waiter was just not interested, and he seems arrogant and defensive. He actually corrected us 4 or 5 times, it seemed. Weird, and definitely not professional customer service. And BTW, we were well dressed and very polite and never got upset. Having had excellent experience here before, we were definitely saddened, and neither of the two steaks we ordered were tender. My salmon was outstanding however; though it is mildly irritating to just receive a piece of fish on a plate with no garnish! Anyway as the prices are so high, we probably won't be going back any time soon.
Nolan is a excellent server. I'll be back - just to have him wait on me.
On a graduation weekend, the entire vibe in the restaurant was great - energetic and fun. The wait staff took excellent care of us and treated us with individuality tho NanaSteak was full and demanding. It was appreciated! Tasty food, as always. A family favorite for special occasions!
Duke Law graduation
service was great. Food was at the top end; sides were a little disappointing. Wine was a great selection at reasonable price.
I booked the reservation way in advance so that I could take my mom to dinner before seeing Beautiful at DPAC. We arrived on time for our 6:00 reservation. It took longer than expected to get our food ... I’m sure the kitchen was slammed, but they should be used to the routine on show nights. I would’ve given a 5 Star on food, except that my steak was over cooked. We were pressed for time so no time for a do-over, nor any option for dessert due to long wait on the entrees. The restaurant comped a small order of fries & the horseradish cream topper to compensate.
I’ll give them another shot when not under a 75 minute time limit.
Not nearly as good this visit. NY Strip was a bit dry and tough. Pork rib appetizer was mostly delicious, but had a couple of foul tasting bites. Breads and potatoes were wonderful! Service was adequate.
One of the best dining experiences to date! Our waiter, Seth, was outstanding. He knew the menu from top to bottom, and his recommendations were individualized to each person at the table. Would highly recommend - and big thank you to Seth for being so wonderful!
Very nice place, the food was very good, but compared to other places as similar price points, it was not up to the same standard. My boyfriend is pescatarian, so he can’t eat meat or meat products aside from fish and shellfish, and we mentioned this to out waiter and he was very accommodating and kind. Do be cautious, that their steak fries are poached in Wagyu beef fat before being cooked and served. I’m sure they would have been great, but unfortunately it is not obvious on the menu so caution should be taken for those who don’t eat meat.
NanaSteak is a lovely restaurant. We had a very mixed experience. We were seated as requested in a quiet section of the restaurant. Service was friendly, helpful and courteous.
2 of us ordered the prime rib which was cooked perfectly but too salty. Unfortunately that’s all we could taste. The other two meals, the salmon and strip steak, were excellent.
Our plates were cleared after each course before everyone had finished! That made the meal feel rushed.
Best steak and sides in Durham
I always enjoy NanaSteak. They have wonderful service. My food was okay, usually it’s great so it was just my selection. Should have stuck with a steak. The vegetable dish was lukewarm. My companions meals were very good.
I have dine at this restaurant many times. However, the table for 2 was in a tight spot right next to the servers work station which was very noisy. The table was so small that it was difficult to order many things off the menu at one time. The food was cool including the appetizer. I had to send my steak back because it wasn’t prepared as ordered. The waiter was not as accommodating. I have had excellent service in the past, however this experience was not favorable.
Our dining experience was excellent. Great food & our server Justin paid attention to every detail.😊😊
Dining at NanaSteak was a wonderful experience. It was my boyfriend's birthday and I had been asked while making my reservation if this was a special occasion, so I selected "birthday". After our incredible meal (Black Angus Rib Eye with the Yukon Gold Potato Puree and Black Angus NY Strip with the Roasted Brussels Sprouts & Bacon), our waiter brought out a complimentary lemon square for the birthday-it was very thoughtful. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone!
Very good food and Very good atmosphere.
