So sorry to see it closing. Awesome food, ambiance, and service
Best meal we have had in years! We will miss this place very much.
Sorry Nanas is closing. I hope Scott Howell can feature Nanas spectacular pate at another one of his restaurants.
Booked a table at Nana's when we read it was soon to close. Have been there many times and it has been great over the years. This time had the Scottish salmon, which was wonderful, and the apricot tart with white chocolate mousse, a great choice recommended by our waiter. Others at the table had the rib-eye and the duck breast with blackberry sauce. The rib-eye was medium rare as ordered, and the duck breast didn't disappoint. Service was great, as usual at Nana's, and we'll truly miss it.
LAST FAMILY MEAL AT NANA’S! :-( It is so hard to say goodbye to THE place that has meant so much to me and my friends and family over the past 26 years. We were there on opening night in 1992 and we will be there on the 30th, closing night as well. Oh and the rabbit was AMAZING ! Always had a great meal at my Nana’s 😂
This was our last hurrah as Nana’s is going to close with the owner/chef going in a new venture. We will continue to fill Scott in his endeavors as he is talented. Our John Bentley of Redwood City also closed this spring—-hearts are breaking
Phenomenal, as always :)
We were a party of ten and we were very happy with the overall experience. The only con I can share is the waiter was not a warm person, I have no other complaint about our experience with him.
This is by far, my favorite restaurant in Durham! I am so sad that they are closing the end of June!
The best restaurant in the WORLD!
Very sad to see this place close. It has always been a staple in durham. Though it was our first time there we always heard nothing but good things about the service and food, neither disappointed on our visit.
Had a great experience. Celebrating a birthday and anniversary. Service was outstanding as was the food. Decor is a little dated, but all this is immaterial as the restaurant announced this week they are closing!! At least we got to try it once.
As always - although now, for only a few weeks longer :-( - great food, great service, complimentary valet parking. Sad to see it go.
SO sad to see you close! We have been regular if somewhat infrequent diners, but we always have fun, enjoy the ambience and great service and, of course, are happy to have chosen Nana's again for a great dinner.
As always food and service was great. I had a wonderful cream of cauliflower soup that was outstanding. For an entree the swordfish with root vegetables was perfectly cooked.
Wonderful dining experience! We can always count on a delicious meal and stellar service. Try Nana’s. You won’t regret it.
We enjoy Nana's as a special "celebration" restaurant (anniversaries and birthdays, usually). The menu changes based on the season and what's available. My husband likes to say he could order anything on the menu and be happy with it. Yes, it can be expensive, but you can also order carefully if you are trying to splurge but stay in budget. As we use it for special occasions, we plan our budget so that we can get what we feel like that night. We have NEVER been disappointed, and always been very VERY satisfied.
Service and food were both perfection. After my husband and I each had a glass of wine with dinner, we decided to split a glass. Our waiter brought the wine bottle to the table; not all wait staff is so accommodating with this request.
Only caveat, bread is room temperature, not warm.
superb experience: valet parking, courteous greeting, excellent service, nice setting and wonderful food
Always had a great meal at my Nana’s!
Special place. Walls oriented to original art, of varying colors, topics, styles.
Very attentive waitstaff, excellent wine list, varied and interesting menu, a feel-good place.
Free valet parking too. Not sure why but the french baguette was dry. Pastry tart was not crisp.
(THey needed to trade characteristics). Enjoyed the meat dishes, and sides.
Once again tasting menu with wine pairings was varied and excellent. A great experience.
Another wonderful meal at Nana's (one evening before it was flooded by heavy rains--again--certainly hope authorities fix the years-long problem in September as they have promised). I had the salad of greens (tasty but too huge), salmon with vegetables including artichoke and sweety drop peppers (a bright spot on the plate and tasty--my first experience with them) and crème brulee for dessert. I had a female server, unlike previous visits, and she was attentive and had a warmth and sense of humor. I enjoyed a university manhattan cocktail and a glass of Oregon Pinot Noir with the salmon. I am glad Nana's has valet service as it was raining when I left and I was escorted to my car under a big umbrella.
It was a disappointing return dining experience. The service was okay, the food was okay, the bread was burned; overall mediocre and not worth the money.
Food was outstanding. Attentive staff, great place.
This was my first time at Nanas. I loved the complimentary valet - it sets a nice tone and allows you to arrive unstressed. The restaurant has good lighting and great art and you will be in the hands of their expert waitstaff right away. The drinks list does not overwhelm you with choice but if you don't see what you like there is much more - just ask your server. Your server will also be happy to provide you with a taste of the beer or wine you may order which I thought was a great touch. We arrived hungry so ordered a sampling of apps right away. They were all amazing. I liked the entres much less as they just seemed liked hunks of protein without a great deal of creativity. Well executed but not exciting. Dessert was also fine but again not very creative or exciting. Overall it is a wonderful experience and I have to say that our waitress Amy was a true delight.
Made us feel very special..... as always!
First time at Nana's. Read great reviews. Lived up to its reputation. My three dinner companions and I all had different meals. Each was exceptional. Well worth the visit.
The appetizers are really good. The liver pate was superior and the dessert of a black and white stuffed cookie with cherry jubilee sauce was outstanding. Coffee is superb!
The entree though was a little disappointing, hence the 4 stars. The duck was cooked expertly and was moist and very tender. But the sauce and surrounding vegetables were not as tasty as I anticipated. They were a little too bland. The breads were both a little overcooked and one was dry and the wheat bread had a "french brown" almost burnt crust but did have a great taste within the crust. A little more attention to the entrees woudl be merited.
The waitress was very nice and the atmosphere casual and most welcoming.
My husband and I were vacationing in North Carolina and chose Nana's Restaurant in Durham for dinner during our visit. We were greeted by a very pleasant valet attendant. The hostess and our server were very attentive to providing for us a very enjoyable evening. The restaurant is very quiet. The food was delicious. My husband ate the Duck Breast entree and I ate the Pork Chop with Chick Peas. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
My husband and I had dinner at Nana’s recently for the first time to celebrate my birthday. Everything was perfect! We will definitely be back!
The food was fabulous, service was excellent. We really enjoyed the evening. Thanks for another fantastic dinning experience..
Wonderful birthday dinner. Tasting menu was just right. Regular menu was great with a nice selection of wines to pair by the glass.
Birthday dinner was super. Very attentive and knowledgeable waiter who suggested I could order with my swordfish any of the foundations listed for the other dishes. This made my day because the beans that came with the foundation would not work for me.
Excellent wine list at very reasonable prices if you stick to the main list.
Would recommend to anyone. Some of the folks for dinner did not know how to dress, not a place I would recommend in shorts but they let the student in dressed like that in with his parents, never cool for this type of place.
Special evening ruined by very poor meals.
Pork was flavorless, tough, and no bone.
All four of us were disappointed.
Excellent waiter. Attentive. Good food Table a bit small for two. Had orchestrate the stemware around the plates. Overall I love Nana’s. .
This place was fantastic—I can’t say enough good things about the food and service. Excellent food and service and I would highly recommend this.
We requested a specific table and they had it ready for us. Meal and drink delicious, as always. Our servers were gracious and competent. And Complimentary valet is wonderful to have. Nanas has always been a favorite .
Our waiter was attentive and well informed on the menu. Made excellent wine recommendation to go with dinner. Generous portion sizes. Pate and venison were best dishes of the night. Rib eye could have been better seasoned.
A lovely evening...our favorite restaurant -that says a lot given Durham is a town with fantastic food. Thank you.
