I use many of the Moosewood cookbooks, and was excited to have the opportunity to dine at the mother ship. It was a big disappointment. The restaurant was shabby, (think tears in the vinyl on the booth benches),the service indifferent, and the food was poorly executed. I had one of the daily specials, shrimp with red cabbage slaw served with polenta cakes. The cakes were dry and cold, the slaw as slimy and limp and the shrimp were mushy. I ordered house made ice cream for desert, and though the flavor was good the ice cream was very icy and crunchy.

Don't waste your time here. Cook at home from the cookbooks instead.

Wanted to go to this vegetarian restaurant for years. Finally went while on a road trip. It did not disappoint in any way. The creative menu is sure to please anyone, nice wine and great beer selection. Very nice environment in a great location in Ithaca. The cookbooks and other memorabilia are available too.

This visit got off to a rocky start when we were seated at a table outside the open waiters' station with a nasty draft. Since we'd made a reservation weeks in advance for our anniversary dinner, I asked to be moved. At first I was told no other tables were available (it was 6pm and half the tables were open), but after some discussion, the restaurant relented and found a warmer, more intimate table. Once settled, we enjoyed the food, the huge salads that accompany them, a fair bottle of rioja and dessert. Dessert, even the iconic brownie that has been served since the 70s, was a disappointment, but dinner was decent if not spectacular. With so many restaurants concentrating on locally sourced and vegetable options, it might be time for Moosewood to step up its game.

Moosewood is the Ithaca restaurant with a national reputation. Decades ago I used to eat lunch there most days. Now Moosewood has become one of Ithaca's pricier eateries. The food is excellent. The salad (I always go with the house dressing) that accompanies each entree is as good as ever. My adult son, who tends to order vegan, asked for brown rice to complete his not-substantial-enough vegetarian entree. The service was excellent. The waitperson was very friendly.

We were in beautiful Ithaca for a concert. Made reservations for a Saturday night with another couple. We were early so we went to the bar. The only bartender on at that moment was busy with service tickets and didn't even bother to acknowledge us by saying hello or anything. We were completely ignored until the hostess came to seat us. We enjoyed each other's company for dinner or it would have been a total let down. My salmon entree was over cooked and overpriced, not to mention void of flavor. With all the cookbooks they have... I never would have expected such an unsatisfactory meal. I will return to Ithaca for sure but I will not be returning to the moosewood!

Glad I searched the dining options in the hotel hand-out. In their top ten picks. Surprised to see Moosewood. Enjoyed the dinner. I am on a vegan diet so could eat most items on the menu. Great service. Its a low-key environment, and was none too busy when I was there on a Thursday night. My wife was not able to come ☹️. We have one of the original yellow paper back cookbooks with all the hand drawings from 1977. which my wife loves- binding broke in half, no cover, loose pages, etc. Definitely visit Moosewood for a great dining experience!

Moosewood needs an overhaul. (1) Service: servers seem to think their role is taking an order, delivering it and providing a check. Nothing more. No accommodation is made to help provide a "dining experience." When our two servings of blueberry sorbet went uneaten, at no time did that signal the server to come visit the table to see what was wrong. This indifferent service is typical of the current level of service at Moosewood. (2) Bar: the bar is an afterthought. When a cocktail is delivered is totally random. Never does a server follow up to see if you'd like a glass of wine with dinner. I ordered a bourbon on the rocks and it came with a tiny, melting shard of an ice cube, similar to what one would expect in a third world country where ice was scarce. My once beloved favorite restaurant has become a disappointment.

Moosewood is a classic and it's a great restaurant for vegetarians. The dishes we ordered were all tasty. Pricing seems fair and service was great. I'm not familiar with the town but Moosewood has a nice outdoor patio which I did not notice in Ithaca's commons area.

I have long heard of the famous moosewood cookbook and restaurant, so I was really looking forward to eating here. But wow, it was so terrible!!! We made a reservation but when we showed up, we waited about half an hour to be seated. After half an hour, we went up to ask about our table and it turns out it was ready the whole time- the extremely distracted hostess had forgotten about us! When we finally got our meal, the food was epically bland, the pasta was mushy, and everything was very disappointing. There are a plethora of options for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free diets available, but unfortunately they are all disgusting. Would not reccomend.

I thought the mushroom soup needed more cream and less filler. Otherwise, it was all good. Ratatouille was excellent. The shrimp with risotto was good. The risotto lemony flavor was pleasant.

Food was delicious and the server (sorry I can't remember her name) was great. The maple walnut ice cream for dessert was perfect. I even bought the Moosewood Favorites cookbook for the salad dressing recipes. Overall a wonderful experience and will be back soon. I live about an hour away and had friends visiting from out of state. They were very impressed as well.

We went here 30 years ago. I remembered dumpy tables and diner type atmosphere. This time it was a dining space with gold and green tones. Also beautiful golden wood tables and chairs. We went there for lunch. We ordered a garden salad with baked tofu as a Add on. And split pea soup with bread The second ordered an artichoke melt . The split pea soup was good but a bit thin for my taste. The salad was nicely presented and the ingredients were fresh. We could not decide on the dressing so we choose two ginger miso and garlic both were excellent. The waiter forgot to order the tofu but it was rectified and he admitted his mistake. The bread with the soup was thick, fresh delicious and multi grained. The bread on the melt was thin and crispy. We split a piece of berry upside down . We were told it was raspberry and blackberry but the piece we got had only raspberries and was a square cake with berries in it, not what we expected but good non the less. Decaf coffee and tea were excellent. This is a great place for gluten-free and vegan individuals.

The menu was really fun! The food had lots of flavor and colors too. MUST try the dessert, they were so unique.

My ratings aren't particularly high because I asked for no runny eggs, and I got a super funny egg. Not a big deal, but would of rated this place closer to a 5 then!

I have been making recipes out of the Moosewood Cookbook since I became a vegetarian over 30 years ago so I was a little disappointed that they served a couple of meat dishes. Call me a purist. Also, there's not even the faintest hint of patchouli in the air and the political messages are staged in the foyer, so except for the blonde wood throughout, the hippie vibe I was expecting seems to have been exorcised. Nevertheless, the food was delicious and reasonably priced. The beers on tap weren't entirely hoppy (I prefer the darker ones). And the wait staff was appropriately alternative looking yet friendly and efficient. I will go back every time I'm in Ithaca!

Polenta Poundcake - where else could you get that? Just wish there had still been some of the Roasted Plum with Sage Cobbler left to try. The chefs are so creative here. Eating at the Moosewood is always a delight.

A good visit to an old friend. Moose wood is a pioneer in quality healthy food. Good cookbooks for home application. Great service from an enthusiastic server. My corn meal covered catfish was the delicious. A creamy tomato soup enhanced the fish and mashed sweet potatoes we finished the meal with a rich flavorful chocolate cake!

We were visiting Ithaca to look at colleges, and the Moosewood Restaurant was a fun stop. Service and ambiance were casual (too casual to make this a "fine dining" experience) but friendly and adequate. The food was the standout and what we came for in the first place. Everything from appetizer through main course tasty and thoughtfully put together. Moosewood's strengths are its kitchen and its ability to source top quality ingredients. We ordered a range of things and both of us were highly pleased with everything. All in all we enjoyed a very pleasant, low-key meal at a price that was appropriate for the food quality/ambiance/service. Moosewood makes me hope that my daughter will decide to go to school in Ithaca.
