Monarch @ Hotel Zaza
The Hollandiase sauce on the steak Benedict tasted like salt. When a replacement dish was brought out it included the same inedible sauce!! The chef sent out the replacement with the same cold side dishes as well. Inexcusable. Once we requested the manager she handled it well but the chef’s response to the original complaint eas was ridiculous. Once they tasted the actual sauce they acknowledged it was inedible
We were quietly eating the entire time. This tells you everything you need to know about the food. Amazing food! The Balsamic vinegrette is unlike anything I have ever tasted before
Great cocktails and wine. The meals were tasty. The service was pleasant and professional. Plus it's a beautiful terrace.
The MONARCH restaurant inside Hotel Zaza is not large. There is an inside bar area, a few scattered tables and a gorgeous outside patio complete with orange lights wrapped around tree branches. It feels hip and cozy all at once. I loved the food - even the salads were very well prepared. Everything was seasoned well and the sauces were divine. Lowkey non-intrusive service - waiter was not by the table too often, but enough to get it done. Price point is slightly high, but not way up there. I think the ambiance and the food match the money spent.
Beautiful hotel. Great service and the food was delicious. All staff was friendly and helpful.
The food was delicious; the waiter attentive but not overbearing; and the ambiance oh, perfect.
Service was horrible with absolutely no one in the restaurant. Will not return.
This was such a disappoint. Where does one start? The mixed menus, the chipped table or the inability of the waiter to take an accurate order?
My guest was happy with her burger. My club, not so much. I had requested no tomatoes-allergy-and guess how it arrived? The fries were terrific with the second try, however no condiments for the sandwich, no pickles, limp toast. Very disappointing.
Oh and the waiters should be taught to tell a customer the truth when a request cannot be fulfilled.
The total experience was exceptional…
We were seated promptly and our waiter came shortly to take our orders. Brunch was delicious. The portion sizes filled us up.
For some reason the waiter changed on us. The first waiter was excellent but the second waiter was terrible. Brought us the bill way too early before he even asked us about having dessert. Didn’t clear our dirty plates. Also, kept trying to bring us the bill for no reason and when no one was waiting for a table or he didn’t have to close out.
We had a great lunch. Food and service were wonderful. Wine was good as well. A little pricey but an excellent experience overall.
Your typical overpriced "nice" restaurant. Unimpressive expensive menu. Service was left to be desired. There is too attentive, inattentive, and just right. My experience was inattentive, not like there were a lot of guests there that afternoon. At the end of the day, it's a hotel restaurant, what do you expect. I only went here because it was a work lunch on expense account. I wouldn't spend my own money here.
The reason why I gave this place full rating is that the waiter who served us was heroic. There were only two waiters that I could see serving the entire dining space, both inside and outside. They were practically running to make sure all guests are served, and they tried their best.
I appreciate their hard work and I know that workers are hard to find for restaurants (and elsewhere), so I give the restaurant full mark even though in better times, the restaurant should be better staffed.
I usually go for casual lunches. The food had been spot on. The ambience is superb. I think is an iconic restaurant of Houston. Delightful experience every time.
We had to ask someone how to get a waiter. Food was fine but absolutely not worth seeking out.
Awesome meal great atmosphere and company
First time to have Andrew for breakfast/lunch server. Very personable friendly and went out of his way to make our request happen!!!
Thank you Andrew
We were in town for business and thought we would stop here for a quick bite before our flight out. Our server was completely unattentive. One thing that stood out was he ended up accidentally knocking over a glass of water on our table and never bothered to clean it or wipe up the water. I guess he figured it was at the end of our meal so he didn’t need to bother. Quite ridiculous frankly.
Enjoyed both the conversation/service of Zack and the Tuna Steak...prepared to order
Wonderful location and ambiance - the outdoor eating area one of the prettiest dining areas inside the loop. Food was delicious (as always). Service remains uneven. Drinks not brought to the table after 20 minutes. Drink order when arrived was incorrect. Food order incorrect and taken back to the kitchen to fix. The waitstaff tried to make it better for us as the meal progressed (comped one of the entrees) but the whole experience would have been better if right the first time. This is the second time we have had this experience - we will go back because we love the food / environs and we visit the MFAH often. Hoping brunch service will improve.
Food and service was excellent! Highly recommend the spaghetti bolognese. The outdoor area is warm and beautifully decorated. We’ll be back!
Service was good but a little rushed. Tables and chairs on the terrace could use a little love. Food was good and worth the price for the valentine menu. Other than feeling rushed which could have been because it was the day after valentines day, was a good experience.
Great restaurant for dinner or Sunday Brunch. It is a nice restaurant where your comfortable to dress smart causal.
The whole night was incredible! The food.. OMG the food was so good I could’ve cried! The Filet and Lobster Valentine’s Special and the Salmon with Cauliflower we’re both exceptional! The chocolate fondue dessert was ahh-maze-ing! Connor gave us the best service I’ve had in years!
Very romantic for a night out on town. Service was great and the food was flavorful.
The service was great, the food was very good. I had the salmon which was perfect. My husband had the petite filet and he said it was very good. The only problem was even though it wasn’t very busy we were seated at a bench table and they sat a single person right next to us who eavesdropped on everything we said. They could have given us a bit more space to enjoy our dinner without being encroached on by a stranger.
Super great tasting filet and cooked to order as requested
The service was very good. The ambience was warm and inviting. Our food was great. We love to eat at this restaurant and we will definitely return.
Great experience food not that clever but nice for a hotel. I’ll go back
Very tasty and tender lamb lollipops! Even well done, like l asked, they were not dry. Great service. Loved valet parking.
Nice easy lunch with no pressure to order.
Great burger and Excellent fries.
The service all worked together to provide a great delivery.
The Monarch Room continues to be one of my favorite places to visit in Houston - whether that be for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or just wine. The ambiance can't be beat - the location is perfect. Tack on a visit to Miller Outdoor Theater before/after Monarch Room for a perfect night!
I was really excited about coming here, haven’t had brunch here in a while. Service and food was horrible yesterday. I ordered the smoked salmon and bagel yesterday, salmon was bad I took one bite and didn’t eat anymore. Our server saw that I didn’t touch my food and asked if he could remove the plate, I said yes the salmon is not good.. no apologies was given just picked up the plate and walked away. I get the check and the food was still on there, I wasn’t going to argue just paid it. I’m really disappointed
Outstanding! Our waiter was very attentive and the food was perfect! I have a small appetite and the crabcake and arugula salad was wonderful and we capped it off by sharing a luscious key lime pie!
Not been here for many years since it was the Warwick Hotel. Outstanding location in heart of museum district and West U section of Houston. The hotel is great and the Monarch restaurant better. Put it on your list when fusion and nueveau Tex-Mex has you longing for traditional white tablecloth food with flair.
Thank you to the host who sat us, he was so nice! Josue did a great job as our server, food was fabulous
Tasty food, lovely ambiance!
I really loved the food and the view. We had enjoyed the moment.
Sadly the Monarch fell short in many ways. The service was lacking and so was the food. For the extremely pricy bill we were highly disappointed for a special birthday dinner at one of our previously favorite spots.
