Monarch had been on my radar for a while. There were some mixed reviews that dissuaded me from going but I finally bit the bullet and went twice (once in March and on their last night in April. I would put it up there with the best of Aspen's restaurants. The food isn't mind blowing but it is a steak house and fits the bill entirely with a la carte cuts of meat plus other non red meat options. A nice variety of appetizers and excellent cocktail list. As expected it does come with a hefty price tag (but still consistent with Aspen pricing).
Absolutely great personal service. Went out of their way to remember a few of our small requests. Also, for the quality of dining and service - reasonable for Aspen.
Hatten einen Tisch reserviert. Klappte alles bestens. Bedienung sehr zuvorkommend. Bester César Salat und auch das Filet von Bison muss erwähnt werden. Ambiente sehr gediegen.
Everything was excellent! Starting with the hostess and how she had paid attention to the details of our reservation to the service, the food and the ambience. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Great service and food, very good steakhouse and very nice place.
Our ribeye steak was delicious although huge so my girlfriend and I split it. All the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Ish move our reservation up an hour and our wonderful bartender did indeed make a fantastic Manhattan and Mai Tai. The atmosphere is like a clubby steakhouse.
A wonderful night with dear friends.
Monarch is a wonderful combination of great food and exceptional service in a classic steakhouse. Everything about Monarch is well done and the interior makes for a comfortable and fun dining experience. In a town with many very good restaurants, this is a stand out!
Although the bison fillet was outstanding, the lemon sole was only so-so. The scallops appetizer was extremely good. The service was outstanding with the waitress overseeing a request for special preparation of the salad. Ambiance was elegant and with strange or iconic movies playing on a screen over the bar. Music was fast, somewhat loud and could have been in a Busby Berkeley movie. I kind of liked it. The restaurant was very expensive. I’ve had better food for lower prices, but it’s in a city with expensive real estate, and the amenities were extremely elegant, which could explain.
Monarch is a quality place, the food is excellent especially the lobster fettucini and the Bison fillet
Excellent in every way. Our server (Dio) was outstanding and we will request him the next time we dine at Monarch. The cocktails were exceptional and a positive way to start our evening. We especially enjoyed the clear large ice cube served with our drink. Two of us tried one of their special Manhattans, the Burning Man which was just great. The best Manhattan we've had in years. The table side prepared Caesar was very good and prepared in the proper way. The steaks were the highest quality prime beef and cooked to perfection. Monarch has our highest recommendation and we look forward to dining there again in the near future.
Fabulous service, amazing Caesar salad and steak. Delicious cocktails too. I highly recommend!
We had a fabulous dinner. The hostess was top notch and the wait staff’s recommendations were spot on. We had fabulous burnout manhattans: one was called Run for the Roses and the other was a Smokey Manhattan. The filet was perfectly grilled with a pepper crust and the bone-in-lamb was delicious. Smashed potatoes were our chosen side. We finished it off with caramel toffee desert and a chocolate tart. 5 stars!
The food, service, and ambience were all fantastic. I highly recomend this restaurant
This restaurant has a great ambiance and the staff, maitre d, wait staff are excellent and attentive. The bison fillet is excellent..as it was the last three or four times
Steaks are too large. 18 ounces for New York/Kansas City style too much meat for most people. Ribeye even larger. I do not like filets so it left nothing in the steak category too large for most people.
Caesar Saladin is one of the best anywhere
Amazing drinks - esp peach jalapeño
Girl serving us was very friendly
Welcome break from Boston weather. Strongly recommended for a nice evening.
One suggestion - they should have more options for appetizers. Esp vegetarian.
love the food especially the caesar salad. when ordering a steak, my suggestions is to request that it be plated as opposed to served in the hot skillet. It continues to cook the meat after it is table side.
Impressive in all aspects.
Authenticity of dishes : Caesar salad for example
Best steak in Aspen by far.
Side dishes ...incredibly well made: gnocchi, Brussels sprouts
Add real baguette bread and French Issigny butter ...and you got Heaven !
Steaks were good but not exceptional. The rest was incredibly salty.
Wonderful meal, dessert, and service. My dad said it’s the best restaurant ever had in Aspen in 10 days......
Great atmosphere and food - the tomahawk ribeye was fantastic. The server and sommelier were really nice but need to up their game given the prices that are charged. Would definitely go again.
Great food, ambiance, service. Everything was great. Will repeat.
We ordered the Caesar for two (made tableside) which was fabulous and both of us had steaks, a bison steak and an eye of the ribeye. Totally delicious and perfectly cooked. The food is wonderful (and expensive). The Monarch offers a limited bar menu that is far less expensive but sitting at the bar for a leisurely evening with an old friend was not a practical option that night. I definitely recommend The Monarch and will return.
Good steak place
Amazing meal! The table side Caesar salad is an absolute must. Filet was perfectly prepared and deliciously seasoned. My husband ordered the burger and swears it was the best he’s ever had. So good he didn’t even touch the fries which were also crispy and delicious. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and perfect for a date night or special dinner. Service was excellent and attentive. The som helped us pick a Chateau Duluc Bordeaux that paired perfectly with our meal. Overall a fantastic dining experience and we will be sure to come back on our next visit to Aspen.
Excellent, recommend the sides
Excellent steaks , cooked to perfection! The fois gras too, was excellent! Very fine service, made for a memorable evening!
One of the best steak houses I've ever eaten at, including the great ones in NYC. The food was amazing and perfectly prepared. The service was excellent. As with all steak houses, I think they're all a bit expensive, but the quality of the food was so excellent here that I have to say it was worth every penny!
One of the best meals I have had. It was everything I expected and then some. I like the black and white movies playing above the bar. I like sports, but I don't want to watch them during a nice dinner.
The beef for 2 was incredible, really good! I am Brazilian , therefore, I am supposed to know what good beef is!!The wine was really nice, as well. The banoffi pie was ordered and left because if you do like the real Banoffi Pie, do not order it in Monarch - it is a made up recipe. It resembles a pumpkin pie with caramelized bananas on top. Service was great!
It was the best dinner experience!!
This is one of the very best resteraunts in Aspen. A really nice ambience, excellent service, great food. Even though this is a steakhouse- we really enjoyed the lobster and fish meals. The wine list is also good. All told- we will be back!
Delicious steak house without the stuffy environment, love the setting!
Highly recommend! Not only our best meal in Aspen but one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We got the scallops to start, then I got the ahi tuna and my husband got the porterhouse. Normally I am not a fan of the non-filet side of the porterhouse but this one was very, very good. The chocolate truffle cake for dessert was AMAZING!
We had an amazing dinner here Saturday Jan. 6. We were traveling from Napa, California and the food here was spectacular. When we walked in, we had an earlier reservation at 6pm and there were few people in the restaurant and the music wasn’t on. I felt as if anyone could hear our conversation. It set an odd atmosphere in the beginning but then as more people came in, the music came on and we felt more relaxed.
We ordered the foie gras torchon and prawns to begin. The foie was delicious and generously portioned but the brioche was oddly cut and there were only 4 small pieces. I was expecting more mini slices instead of clumps? The prawns were fresh and amazing.
For our main, we shared a cowboy beef chop, creamed spinach and the mushroom gnocchi. All were spectacular. The steak was perfectly prepared and the sides were delicious as well. The gnocchi was a bit tough but flavor was there.
Overall, we had a wonderful dinner and the food and wine list was awesome.
Best steak in Aspen. Get the bone marrow. You will not regret
The French onion soup was one of the best I've had; right on the mark. The bread as excellent as well. The 8 oz Prime filet however wasn't medium rare (red warm) -- it was a bit over cooked (brownish red warm) and the blue cheese 'crown' inundated the steak in flavor (more than a dollop which is what I usually see when ordered at other places). My wife's Bison was cooked perfectly (medium rare - red / warm), but it was far too peppery. The sautéed spinach had too much garlic; the garlic was a too bitter (over sautéed) and it permeated the dish. The wine was excellent -- however at $25 for a glass and since it was a recommendation the waiter should have stated the price.
