Wonderful restaurant with outstanding service and delicious entrees, focusing on steak. Shrimp cocktail a must.
I absolutely love Monarch! I was so upset on my anniversary meal , Dover Sole! I know it was October 5th and end season, but if your going to decide to stay ope a week or so after some of the restraunts close, the food needs to be outstanding until the door closes for season . We had some friends that ate there October 6th and they said the exact same thing. I love this restraunt and don’t want it to get a bad name just because of the last week!
It was my first time dining here and I will be back! Would highly recommend as the must try steak house in Aspen. Everything from the appetizers to dessert was amazing. Trust me adding the butter to your steak is well worth it and the crab mac n' cheese has large pieces of crab. The waitstaff were all friendly and helpful. One of the better dining experiences in Aspen for sure!
Really great quality steak, very tasty and tender. Great service, great wine and great surroundings. Only problem steak and sides served warm (not hot).
Candle light can be lovely but this place is too dark
Great food. Aspen pricy. We had the Caeser salad because of the reviews. It truly is delicious. The steaks were great and we loved our time spent. It was unhurried and that was nice. Great spot for date night.
The sole was good. My lobster tail was just ok, I’ve had better, not very juicy. The drawn butter seemed a little over cooked, turning brown. The mushrooms were fine, not exceptional. The caeser salad was pretty great, except it had too much garlic which kind of ruined anything that came after that and gave problems all night. It was pretty overpriced. Really? $40 for 2 people just for Caesar salad?
Always a wonderful experience. I run a restaurant so am very particular about where I dine when I’m not working. This is always one of my go-to spots and has been for years. One of the most beautiful dining rooms in Aspen and spectacular service. Charles has been our server for past two visits and he’s very attentive and friendly to chat with. We can’t wait for the next date night there
Finally found a restaurant in Aspen that delivered real quality at the upper end of pricing. Too many times I've been disappointed there with the poor service and mediocre food quality of the "top" restaurants. They are often over-priced and not particularly good in overall preparation. Monarch was solid in every respect.
First time guests - greeted promptly and seated early. Hostess was warm and friendly. Our wait person and his team handled our every need, usually before our request. The food was very exceptional as was the wine list. Great place for a date - we will return!
Last year, we really enjoyed the food at Monarch, especially the yummy Caesar salad so we were looking for a repeat this year. The Caesar was delicious, but our steaks did not live up to expectations. They were both dry. The filet that I ordered “under-medium” was over-cooked and had very little flavor. My husband’s “medium plus” filet was very dry with no flavor. The staff was very good and the ambience great. Not sure we will return next year.
Food was wonderful!!
We chose the Monarch for our anniversary dinner during our visit to Aspen after reading many reviews, and it did NOT disappoint. We ate early (6:15) to avoid a crowd and noise. The cocktails were good, especially the spicy orange dragon concoction, and we especially enjoyed the Caesar salad prepared table side. It was very good and brought back memories from years where this presentation was not so rare. We also had the bison fillet and the clams and mussels from the appetizer menu along with the artichoke side. The artichokes were battered and fried and our least favorite of the items sampled. We saved room to share the raspberry brûlée and were very happy we did. Our attentive waiter, Bress, brought the dessert with a small candle in celebration of our milestone which prompted good wishes from neighboring diners. A very pleasant evening.
Very poor service
Love to go with my husband so we can talk. Caesar prepared tableside is always excellent, great steak and a martini make my night. PS love the old movies playing silently over the bar.
Excellent steak house with the best traditional Caesar salad prepared table side. Excellent wine selection and beautiful decor. It is on the pricey side but worth it when you want something that is perfect every time!
The music was so loud we couldn’t hear each other and the waiter took an excessively long time to process our bill payment.
Food was good but not the correct value for the price.
The signature drink with the vodka and caviar was amazing!! Along with the bison filet!
Wonderful steaks, but salty Lobster Carbonara. Sent that back and waited 15+ minutes while the rest of the table enjoyed their dinner. Unfortunate as the place seems solid. Management had to be prodded to make things right.
We always love going to Monarch. Everything from the food to the wine to the service is superb! Ambiance is refreshingly different than other places in Aspen.
I took my family to dinner here when they were in town and they all said the Tomahawk steak (we had 4) were the best they have had anywhere!
I’m SO glad there is such a hip and Upscale “steakhouse” in town. The whole menu is fantastic... not just the mouthwatering steaks. We will always go back and take our out of town guests!
Our dining experience started OK with the $40 Caesar salad for two, but it went severely downhill from there. I ordered the $30 prime burger rare, and it arrived medium well. So, I sent it back. the second burger was even more well done! I took out my iPhone flashlight to show the manager how gray the meat was as well as being dry as sawdust; he argued with me that it looked "pink" in the kitchen when he showed it to the chef. Now, I come from a family whose cousins are meatpackers, so I know prime beef should be juicy when cooked, which neither burger was. At that point, I was so disgusted that I refused a third try at cooking a rare hamburger and nibbled on my husband's side dishes. His filet was OK--nothing special. The manager sent over a free dessert, but I would never go back. Aspen prices are higher than NY or Chicago, where I live, and we have plenty of steakhouses where a rare burger comes out as ordered at a much lower price.
Sensational! Table side Caesar Salad is not to be missed. Sole is wonderful for non red meat eaters. Steaks are terrific.
The best Caesar salad in the universe!!!
Great place one of the best in Aspen.
Food was wonderful.
The staff was professional. The setting was elegant. Service and food were great. Don’t forget to order The Sticky Toff
Exceptional steaks, gourmet sides, tableside ceasar salad!
We had dinner on Sunday night, recommended by Tucker at the Viceroy. We loved dinner so much, we went back on Tuesday. It's now our favorite place in Aspen for steak. We'll be back for Spring Break in March!
Really a very special place to dine! Even to stop in and get a drink and cocktail at the bar is a treat.
We will be back for sure.
Wife’s birthday excellent event here
Delicious food and a very cozy atmosphere. Friendly staff. Very welcoming.
Food was great. Everything was prepared perfectly. Chat on steaks was on point. Service could’ve been a little more attentive as we had a table of 8 and waited a little longer than I would’ve liked. Overall great meal.
We love the food at Monarch. While it's known as a Steak House, we rarely eat meat. But they have great salads and fabulous sides, plus lovely seafood options. Don't miss their Caesar salad. It's the best in town.
We visit Aspen several times a year and never miss having dinner at Monarch. Though known as a steakhouse, they have many non steak options for your pallet, as well as a wonderful wine list with knowledgable wait staff to help with selections for both food and wine. Great service as well. Brett was our server this time and was excellent.
Everything the server suggested was fantastic. The 1944 Mai Tai was extraordinary. Cabernet Franc was perfect with my eye of ribeye and hubby's saddle of lamb. We had such an enjoyable dinner due to food, service, and ambience. The decor was beautiful. Such an elegant bar. We sat and had a couple of drinks at the bar after dinner and the bartender was amicable and made us feel pampered and comfy.
Monarch had been on my radar for a while. There were some mixed reviews that dissuaded me from going but I finally bit the bullet and went twice (once in March and on their last night in April. I would put it up there with the best of Aspen's restaurants. The food isn't mind blowing but it is a steak house and fits the bill entirely with a la carte cuts of meat plus other non red meat options. A nice variety of appetizers and excellent cocktail list. As expected it does come with a hefty price tag (but still consistent with Aspen pricing).
Absolutely great personal service. Went out of their way to remember a few of our small requests. Also, for the quality of dining and service - reasonable for Aspen.
Hatten einen Tisch reserviert. Klappte alles bestens. Bedienung sehr zuvorkommend. Bester César Salat und auch das Filet von Bison muss erwähnt werden. Ambiente sehr gediegen.
