Modus might serve Italian food, but refreshingly, no one’s anxious to label it “rustic.” Modus’s menu takes recognizable Italian classics and re-creates them as fine-dining fares.
The restaurant offers an extensive 300-bottle wine program, with seasonally selected wine by the glass. A focus on Italian, Californian and South American wines provides excellent pairing for a fine dining experience.

The ambiance was near perfect, tense but not terse on entry, with a gradual warming and eventual nonchalant air of our being there. Superb delivery of service, its what dinner out ought to be, tyvm.
Decent food but glacial (though gracious) service. Strangely, the hostess seated us right by the kitchen despite plenty of quieter and more pleasant tables being available.
Over priced! Ordered a plate of lobster with squid ink fettuccini for $38 and the cheapest ingredient in a restaurant (PASTA) they had 6 strands of it . Service was terrible 20 mins with not even how was your main. Highway robbery.

The service is always great, Sam has a wonderful attentive Staff. The Italian food, and especially the fish is fresh and delicious.
The lunch was exceptionally good. Service was prompt and friendly.
My favourite spot
Had to go for a business lunch, very loud restaurant so difficult to have a conversation with the group. Limited menu for plant based eaters, only option was a small salad, white bread and a few olives. Surprised that the chef didn't have any other options after the waiter asked. Need to move into this century, times are changing....

Lovely lunch. We both enjoyed the seafood lunch special, spigola filet, with vegetable sides- beautifully prepared.
For desert we had a lemon cake which was delicious.

The usual good food, my wife and I each had the swordfish which was grilled to perfection. The restaurant was busy early because of the hockey game and as a result noisier than usual. Easy location to get to and I would recommend for everyday dining.
I found the waiter to be very rude. It was as though it was a bother for him to wait on us. Quite embarrassing since I was hosting an out of town client. Have had lunch there many times and have had an enjoyable experience until yesterday.
The menu and the food were outstanding. My business guest and I are both big on seafood, which is why I choose Modus - and we were both very happy with the selection and the quality.
The service was also excellent - always seemed to come by at just the right time, and ask the right questions. They obviously knew what they were doing, and were very attentive to the cues at the table.
We had the perfect business lunch, and I will definitely bring clients back in the future.

I went to Modus the other night night with two friends for dinner. We had a table on the patio. You would never know that York St is next to it as the traffic noise did not exist. A very nice summer dining experience. The staff was very attentive. One had the tuna, the other veal and me I had the mussels. All agreed that it was delicious. Wine selection was very good. Would I repeat a visit to Modus, especially on a beautiful summer evening on the patio, the answer is yes.
Great food and service
My daughter and I enjoyed a quiet and delicious meal prior to going to a concert. Being a Monday in the summer Modus was not busy and the food and service was excellent. I would recommend the lobster pasta and my vegetarian daughter was well looked after with full plate.
Excellent place to host a business function meal. Had a group of 15, and staff was very attentive, food was excellent, and environment was fantastic.
We had a table on the patio on a beautiful sunny day which contributed to our high rating for ambiance. We originally had a table reserved inside but when we asked they accommodated us on the patio which we really appreciated. Was a little pricier than expected/planned but quality of food and service justified it. Very pleasant location for our business lunch.
The food was delicious. The service was even better. The place was dead on a Friday night after 6, because everyone had gone home from downtown for the weekend. They are closed on weekends. The portion size was small for the price, but still very good food.

Wow, wow, wow! The service was so excellent it nearly blew us away. Our waiter was meticulous. When we said we wanted to split both entrées, he pulled over a second table so we could comfortably fit “share plates” and our dining table wouldn’t be crowded.
