Modern Love Ratings and Reviews
Of the 4 of us that dined that night, I am the only vegan. The appetizer and my meal were delicious. However, the others weren't very impressed with the food. For someone that eats this way regularly, it's a wonderful place with quality options. I will definitely be back for the Gnocchi Marinara!
First experience with Modern Love. Excellent Vegan experience, especially if a first timer. Kind of in an awkward location but easy access. Needs a little more attention to cleaning and we had several annoying fruit flies interfering with the ambiance. Will be back though. Worth the effort to find.
This was my first visit to Modern Love. I had heard great things about the food. My friends ordered the mushroom schnitzel and the Modern Cheeseburger( vegan burger with vegan cheese). Both loved their meals. I had the bean and cheese (vegan cheese) quesadilla. It was delicious and I loved the guacamole served on top. We finished our meals with snickerdoodle vegan pumpkin cheesecake with toasted pecans and caramel sauce. We all left happy and satisfied.
Our experience was great. We got to the restaurant around 5:30. There was only about 10 people in the restaurant at this time and it was very quiet. As the place started to fill up the noise volume went up tremendously. To the point we felt like we were yelling at each other. Maybe some sound boards on the walls would help this. Other than that it was GREAT! We will definitely return
I ordered the modern burger and it was very good, but my husband ordered this mushroom dish and it left a lot to be desired. It was basically mashed potato and gravy topped with mushrooms and broccoli on the side. It tasted okay, but was not filling at all. Would not recommend that dish at all. The servers were VERY nice and we received great service. It was hard to enjoy my meal because you are so smashed together and it was so loud. You could literally hear every conversation in the room. The overall feel of the restaurant is very nice. The table setting was beautiful and romantic, but once again was ruined by being so close to people and barely being able to hear your date. But it is a specialty restaurant, and my burger and the service was good.
Great vegan food, cute small restraunt, very friendly staff, but overpriced. Spent $90 for 2 vegan burgers, mac n cheese and 3 drinks with one desert shared by 3 people with standard tip. If your vegan you dont have a ton of options in Omaha so go for it but if not vegan you can get better food cheaper elsewhere.
This is my go-to spot when I'm in Omaha. Sadly, the menu update has limited choices that interest me. The food quality is good but one server can get overwhelmed pretty easily. For such a small menu, print new ones when you make changes and save your server from having to recite a list of things that are different than on the menu.
Our reservation was for 7 pm. We arrived 20 minutes early. In the past we were offered the chance to have a cocktail or drink before we were seated. No offer was made. Several groups were seated before us without reservations. We were seated after 7:30 and were told the people at the table the restaurant wanted to seat us at would be left to linger a bit after their meal. Around 7:45 we ordered drinks and appetizers. The drinks were brought with warm appetizer plates. At about 8:45 the appetizers were brought. We were told they were complementary because they were so late. I inquired about the entrees we ordered and our server puzzlingly stated they were being platted-would we like them boxed? Dinner arrived at about 9. Appetite and eagerness lost. We were eating and the server told us about the deserts that were still available. We declined, before we finished the bill was dropped. I was the last of our party of four still dining. My plate was removed with a few bites still remaining without asking me. We departed. Some staff were dining as we left. Upon returning home I called and asked for the manager and told him of the terrible experience we had. He was apologetic and told me a table near us exceeded their reservation, the restaurant and kitchen are small, Wednesday nights are usually slow, they were busy that night. He hoped we would give them a second chance. We've been to this wonderful restaurant at least six times in the last several years. I don't know if we will return again.
I've been primarily plant-based for over a year and have loved Isa's cookbooks. So, when my brother and his wife moved to Omaha I couldn't wait to visit her restaurant there. I was not disappointed! All of the food was delicious! Everyone enjoyed tasting all the food and even the three non-vegans enjoyed their plates. The desserts are fabulous. I also loved their non-alcoholic soda options; my orange hibiscus soda was yummy. Thank you for a great night out!
I ate alone, so was given the bar seat which looks out over the parking lot. My back was to everyone. This seat is very close to all food activities in and out of kitchen. It was not enjoyable for me. The view was awful, my back to every other person was uncomfortable. I won't sit there again.
Most of the food was extremely good although expensive (this is understandable because they do use very good ingredients and have amazing flavors.) Unfortunately, my wife's dinner was so salty it burnt the end of her tongue. I tried it and it truly was extremely salty. The rest of the food was really good and extremely impressive for the flavors they create using vegan only ingredients.
My biggest issue with the restaurant is the seating area. It's very small and cramped and you feel like you are sitting in on your neighbors conversations. When your neighbor decides to leave there's a good chance they'll hit you with their butt on the way out. The decor is pretty bad, too. For the quality of their food they really need a restaurant to match. Also, be aware that it is very noisy. Don't expect a quiet dinner (unless you are there when there are few customers.) Some people like the high energy atmosphere but for those looking for a romantic dinner this is not the place.
Ultimately, the food is recommended not just to vegans and vegetarians (that's a no-brainer) but to meat eaters, too. They won't miss a thing and they'll be amazed at the flavor. You need to try it at least once. We may be back but we just did not like the atmosphere. They really do need a larger restaurant with nicer decor.
This was our first try for vegan cuisine. The Seitan had excellent texture and was tasty! It was a pleasant surprise... My spouse had the gyro and enjoyed it, especially the fatty potatoes. Food was well prepared with a unique combination of veggies. It was a bit salty, otherwise perfect.
My husband and I drove 7 hours out of the way on our road trip to go to Modern Love. It was so worth the trip! The food was incredible and our server was warm and friendly. I'm definitely glad we made reservations, as the dining room is quite small and the restaurant is very popular. I wish we lived closer so we could experience this again.
The "buffalo wings" were my favorite and I can not wait to have them again. It's one of those dishes you can't stop thinking about. The s'mores cheesecake was fantastic and the lemon vinaigrette on the salad, DELICIOUS! Chai tea, yum. We will definitely be back again and again.
Much of the food was too salty. Mashed sweet potatoes were excellent. Brussel sprouts were good. Seitan chops were tough and salty. Ditto the roasted potatoes that came as a side on other plates. Grilled Caesar was good. Waitress was excellent. Nothing, however, was good enough to draw me back there.
