Excellent food. Excellent variety and freshly prepared. Outstanding quality.
Let's start with the pros: Mission Inn is a lovely setting for a nice dinner date. The atmosphere is rustically beautiful in a European style for Southern California. Nothing seems brand new, and yet nothing seems old and dirty. Indeed, it has a very nice feeling of yesteryear or nostalgic dining. The wine selection is pretty good, and I had a nice glass of Chateauneuf du Pape. If you are dining just for the atmosphere, you can't go wrong coming here.
Now for the cons. Service was really sub standard. The wait staff was inconsistent and generally inattentive. We dined outside and the patio heater was low on gas. Only towards the end of our dinner did they bring over a new heater. It was too little too late. We dined for about $50 per person, but the food was about on par with an Olive Garden or Outback Steakhouse. It was not fine dining, dispite the linen table cloths.
Overall, we left disappointed. Perhaps we came with too high expectations.
I have eaten here frequently over the last several years. Normally the food and service has been great but the last 3 times I have been their the quality of the food was not good. There were four in the party for a late lunch and it was not extremely busy. Table was not set up properly (no "set up" and when asked, they brought only enough for 2), the lunch took about 30 minutes and 3 of the four did not really care for the food. I had a Ruben sandwich with twice as much meat than should have been, limited sauerkraut and barely a hint of dressing.
We met long time friends that we hadn’t seen in years for dinner. Everyone agreed the food and atmosphere were wonderful! We weren’t rushed and were able to spend time chatting and catching up. The service was excellent.
Second time at the Mission Inn. Both my wife and I had the filet mignon and it was excellent. Both we done just as we asked and they were extremely tender and flavorful.
Although it's a bit out of our way, we will be back.
Always a super experience!
The architecture of the building is amazing! A little fancy but it’s worth visiting. Food is delicious and the service was excellent.
So beautiful and the food was excellent. wonderful day had by all.
Executive Chef, Richard Mendoza and his staff did an outstanding job in creating food for all! There were crab claws and crab legs, delicious chicken and meat dishes, as well as mini pizzas on short tables for kids. The Mother's Day brunch is outstanding.
We have only been here for Mother’s Day Brunch, but we’ve come here several times and they never disappoint. They have a great selection of food and the service is excellent. The fact that it’s located in a beautiful, historic hotel is the icing on the cake! We’ve tried other local brunches, but always end up back here.
We went for mother’s day Sunday brunch with an 8am reservation. Ones we got there they told us the mother’s day brunch would start at 9 and they couldn’t move our reservation. Wish they would of said that a little early when I made my reservations. Overall we still enjoyed our stay and breakfast will be going back soon. Great place to eat and spend the weekend.
We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Server was very professional and friendly. Upon ordering food came out quickly and prepared perfectly. Highly recommend.
Wonderful buffet. Enjoyed everything about the dinner!
This was an amazing venue!! We went for Mother’s Day and we were very pleased with the beautiful scenery and SPECTACULAR customer service.
The food was delicious and well prepared. We asked for a quiet table but were seated next to a loud wedding party instead and stuffed five of us into a table for four. The courtyard setting was beautiful. The wait staff were very attentive.
Mother’s Day dinner
Everything was perfect. Great ambiance and great food. Would definitely eat here again.
Lovely waiter, very helpful, delicious garlic shrimp pasta in gorgeous outdoor setting / great experience
My dining partner and I got together, after not seeing each other at all for many years, for a 3 1/2 hour catch up lunch. We had a comfortable shady table on the patio, picture-perfect day. The service was friendly and attentive whenever needed. The food was excellent - we both enjoyed our selections very much. A lovely place for a special occasion like this.
My friend and I had lunch there on a cloudy Wednesday and enjoyed quiet time. Always enjoy spending time at Mission Inn, and the food was very good. One comment about the food, i.e. we both ordered the New York Steak and mostly liked them, but the meat seemed a little tough to me. Not enough to send it back to kitchen. Otherwise, all was enjoyable.
Sunday Brunch was a great time. Great ambiance, good selection of food and service. The saxophone player kept the guests engaged.
My wife and I were here for our honeymoon. We have been a repeat customer for such a long time. This place is tremendously awesome! the brunch is amazing and the location is absolutely beautiful!
Great table, food was 5 star. Perfect salads, steaks were awesome. We enjoyed everything about our evening. Thank you, Mission Inn.
First time at the Mission Inn. Great place for special occasions and just a night out. Historic building with a lot of history. We just had a light meal because we were on our way to the theater but we will be back to explore the place and have a meal that we don't need to have on a timetable.
After making reservations a week in advance for our 30th wedding anniversary we were seated at a terrible table and the service was lousy and very slow. Very disappointed after spending many years of dining at various restaurants at the mission inn
The food was quite good, but the service was lacking. It wasn't even that busy and the server never checked back to our table to see if we needed anything else, and our water glasses were never refilled. I had to flag down the server to request my bill. It was also a little pricey for lunch, $70 for 2 people. I don't mind paying for good food and good service, but as I said, the service just wasn't very good.
Girls day to ballet
The main chef checked on our experience. After learning it was my 55th birthday he returned with a piece of Tiramisu large enough for everyone to share. What a special moment.
Dinner with family
Went the for brunch on my daughter's 21st birthday. We both had the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. It was amazing. We sat outside in the patio, the fountain was peaceful and having the hotel around us was beautiful. Will definitely go back for another delicious meal on the beautiful patio.
Met for Sunday Brunch at 1:00. Was a little worried going so late, but I was worried for nothing. The food continued to be replenished, hot and fresh, well through the 2:00 posted brunch conclusion. Our waitress was great, the staff manning the waffle/omelette/eggs Benedict bar were very accommodating. Eggs Benedict is done properly, poached in a bain marie, with lovely, smooth hollandaise. The carving stations were great, nice selection of hot dishes, and the seafood selections were high quality and fresh. This brunch is an elegant showcase of downtown Riverside, and one of our favorites anywhere.
We had a great time on a cold spring afternoon and evening. A very pleasant place to unwind, which we did.
We were celebrating 4 birthdays with gifts, etc. And not one word from the waitress while they were singing to others celebrating. We spent a lot of money. It would have been nice to hear "happy birthday at least."
Stake and sides overspiced with garlic. ....not everyone's taste
Ambience is to die for, but the food is nowhere close. Also, they seemed short-staffed, and the music from the nearby bar was too loud. I’d go back for a drink on the outdoor patio (farther from
the bar) on a warm evening but skip the food.
Wonderful staff, food was delicious, and ambiance was very sweet and peaceful.
Had the New York steak. Had no flavor And the vegs were burnt. Second time that we went to the The Mission Inn for dinner and the food has been the same, not impressed
It was my first time there and it was the day before my aunts birthday and a week before my birthday. So it was combined birthday dinner/ladies night and the staff brought out Crème brûlée with happy birthday written and with a candle. It was lovely.
It was a very positive experience
I love the mission inn and all of the restaurants in the hotel.
The drinks weren't on point as they usually are and they cooked my steak to the cook my husband requested on his steak. So just a few small discrepancies. It was also my birthday but they didn't acknowledge it..
I will go back again but maybe get a drink from the presidential bar instead of the restaurant.
