Tasting menu was excellent, highly recommend!
The food, as always, was delicious. We were particularly impressed with the service. Our waiter made several recommendations which were greatly appreciated.
As always, we had a marvelous time. Our waiter was a definite asset to our evening!
Totally worth the trip. We’ll be back.
Love you guys!
The start was a bit disappointing as we had to wait for our table for a good 20 minutes or so, even if we had a reservation. Then it took another good 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive and our food order be taken as our waiter seemed busy. However, after that everything came quick and food was delicious.
Would definitely come again (but maybe not on a Saturday night.)
Amazing and creative dishes. Don’t shy from ordering lots of apps. Well worth it.
Wonderful. The building is amazing. The people and staff are terrific. I love how they keep a database of their clients so they know you before they arrive. The sommelier is very good, helpful and offers lots of great suggestions. We also got our favorite server (Marie). And to top it off the food is imaginative, and wonderful. They shuffle things around a lot, but it's great the mixing of the tastes that we get to try - too much to pick sometimes. It's just our favorite place for drinks and dinner.
This lovely dining room is perched atop a mill spillway so one of its major attractions is its scenic location. Not all tables have a view of this waterfall, so the window tables are understandably coveted. Service was excellent and professional. Menu was a bit limited, but broad enough for most diners. Entrees were good but not exceptional. Almost all of our dishes were over salted - a pity, as otherwise they would likely have been quite delicious. The one exception to the saltiness was an excellent appetizer - Tapioca Custard - which was an inventive and delicious dish based on the flavors of clam chowder but served as a tapioca pearl creation with herbs, butter, clam flavor, and a lemon beurre blanc sauce atop which perched three or four perfectly prepared tiny clams - a triumph of flavor and creativity. So, we were a bit on the fence about this place. I want to encourage creativity on the part of any chef, and this chef is obviously trying very hard. He deserves credit for that, but needs to be mindful of his heavy hand with salt. Many of the diners we observed were on the plus side of 60 years, presumably watching their salt intake. This restaurant did them no health favors. Two other things: the floor near us seemed to sag (the result of the building being an historic structure?), so whenever the help passed by our table, it and we were bounced a bit. This became tiresome as the evening wore on. Also, a wooden peninsula for wine, glassware, and coffee brewing juts into the dining area raising traffic issues for the busy staff. We were seated right in front of it and thus we observed ALL of the comings and goings of the waitstaff to/from the kitchen - a very busy and unfortunate runway to be seated next to. It would seem that this peninsula could be moved to a quiet corner so as to be out of everyone's way. So, some plusses, and some definite minuses for this pretty dining room with its excellent staff and creative chef.
Was pretty disappointed. Reservation needed to be secured with a credit card and if you cancelled (by a certain time) you would be penalized $25 per person. We were excited to go, but when we got there they were kind of surprised we showed up. Come to find out they had called so we could confirm the reservation! I thought that was why they secured the reservation via credit card! Got seated, waited 10 minutes for anyone to come over to us. Waitress took our order and that was it. It would have been nice if our waitress actually waited on us. She did tell us that they had been there since 11 am (our reservation was for 5:30) and they were only seating until 6 (what a relief that was, she said). She managed to flit about to every table in our vicinity but not us. I wanted to order a glass of wine with dinner, but no, no one came around. The bus boy was actually better than she was! He at least cleared the dishes and took my order for coffee. No on refilled the water glasses. Big disappointment for such a renowned restaurant. Not worth the money for the service. Food was okay but it was a prix fixe menu for Easter and, in my opinion, overpriced for what you got. Probably won't go there again.
The setting is spectacular in an old mill building alongside a brook and waterfall. Very well prepared food and cocktails. Definitely will return.
Easter Sunday Brunch done with imagination and great skill. The Spring Lamb was absolutely sublime. The tag team approach for service got the job done, but with a little less elegance than the food. Millwright's continues to impress with the perfect blend of flavors, commitment to local farmers, and the overall high level of gastronomy. A fine selection of wines, although somewhat of a profit center for them.
Excellent family meal for Easter Brunch (Special Menu). Friendly and efficient service. Beautiful setting. Tasty squash soup. Beautifully prepared and delicious main dishes (Steak, Eggs Benedict, Lamb). Loved the Pavlova dessert. Marvelous locally roasted French-press coffee.
This was a 60th Birthday dinner and as usual Millwrights provided the best meal for the occasion. This is our favorite place to dine.
They tried to make our meal right… However for the price we paid I expected a little better quality. Our steak was not cooked correctly-they did recook it.
the appetizer was burned on the bottom. So many people raved about how good it was... I was underwhelmed.
Overall experience was very good. Tapioca appetizer was excellent and scallops were good. The waiter we had was terrific. Attentive, professional, knowledgeable. Very comfortable and attractive ambience. Would definitely recommend to others.
This was our second time and was as good as the first. Had a wonderful meal with friends and will be back again.
The service was excellent, I will give them that credit. They took note of my husband’s birthday and gave him a card upon arriving. The food was not all that exceptional, however. We tried the tasting menu. There were a few redeeming plates like the tapioca appetizer and the kholrabi with blue cheese. The wines paired nicely with the different dishes but we just didn’t find the food all that extraordinary. The desserts did not seem fresh. The lime custard dessert seriously seemed like it had been sitting in the fridge for a few days. We were disappointed and will not return.
Excellent and creative cuisine. Attentive service. Perhaps a bit pricey but on par for restaurants of its type offering creative and freshly prepared meals. River setting is outstanding. Would return for special occasions.
My husband and I absolutely loved it! It was the first day after our wedding so we wanted to have an amazing time and that’s what we got! We did the tasting menu with wine pairing and it was worth every penny!! Our server Ron explained everything for us and answered all our questions. My favorite was the tapioca custard and my husband loved the fish and crab cake dish! We can’t wait to go back!!
Ron is a fantastic server. Attentive to our needs & knowledgeable about the cuisine. He guided and paced us through the seven course tasting menu flawlessly. He played a very large part in our fabulous dining experience, the rest goes to the highly skilled culinary team in the kitchen. All of our courses were prepared with excellence, pleasing to the eye and palate.
Have never eaten here and not had a great meal with excellent service. Have had many enjoyable dinners and plan on more to come. The staff is excellent and provide top notch but not overbearing service.
The bread and appetizer came out in a good time but the food took a very very long time to come out. When i got my meal it was cold and didn't taste good. It wasn't how I asked for it. The waiter Bryant didn't come and check on us until we were almost done with our entrees and it was not busy. I am a server of a fine dining restaurant and have been one for years and I didn't like that. The food was ok but small portions for a very high price. I would hesitate on coming back for that reason.
Our waiter Ron was amazing he was attentive and knowledgeable about the cuisine. We did the tasting menu and was not disappointed from start to finish this meal and experience was phenomenal. It wasn’t stuffy, I would highly recommend doing the tasting menu to anyone who is open to amazing food. Added bonus was Chef Tyler Anderson came out and said hello to our table.
The hostess knew it was a special occasion and made a point to sit us by the waterfall window; great customer service!
My 13 year old asked to celebrate her birthday with Sunday brunch at Millwrights. We asked for a waterfall view. They did not disappoint! Fabulous seat, attentive service! Brunch was excellent as was the service; even a birthday surprise at the end. We will be back!!
Millwright’s didn’t disappoint! A friend had recently dined here and highly recommended the restaurant. It was much more than just dinner it was an overall experience. From the moment we arrived we were catered to with detailed attention. Despite arriving late due to travel issues, we were treated as if there was plenty of time before closing. Ron was beyond amazing with his service. He was attentive but not overbearing and his recommendations were top notch.
Try the foie gras- highlight of the meal!
Exceptional in every way. This dining experience is a level above most restaurants. Food is delicious, service is superb. It is at the top of my list for Farmington Valley.
Excellent. Food was very creative and prepared perfectly. Service was outstanding as well.
Had learned about the restaurant because of my Top Chef viewing. In past seasons of Top Chef have sought out the restaurant's of contestants and judges but none have come close to the wonderful experience we had at Millwrights. It was a meal (and an evening) filled with wonder and contentment due to choosing the tasting menu. We left our culinary comfort zone of New Haven to travel the back roads (in the dark) to Simsbury to experience the most amazing meal. I would encourage all passionate foodies to make the trek.
Excellent service, enjoyed all our choices!
Will return soon
Excellent as usual. Food is extraordinary albeit on the pricey side. Portions certainly don't fill you up but the quality makes up for that. Service is outstanding. Worth going to on occasion.
I recently moved to the area and was really looking forward to finding a nice restaurant in town to take family and friends to while they are visiting. I have heard great things about Millwrights and decided to make a reservation for a table of 2 to celebrate a birthday. This was my first time at the restaurant and I could not have been more disappointed. The food was fantastic but not worth it for the service we received. Our waiter was so rude that we will not be back. I have never experienced such unprofessional service from a restaurant before and certainly did not expect poor service from a place like Millwrights.
We never fail to enjoy a fine gourmet meal at Millwright’s. I had the duck , which was delicious, and my husband had venison. We finished by sharing the green apple bomb dessert. Excellent meal, and nice that bottles of wine are half price on Sundays.
Creative, modern cuisine. Excellent service. One of the finest restaurants in the state.
Outstanding food and professional, attentive service. Excellent attention to detail. Pricey, but well worth it for a special occasion. Beautiful ambience.
Disappointed by the food and ambiance. Truthfully, it was so-so. Salmon was cooked thru which seemed unusual, and was very salty. The swordfish was fine but nothing special. Best course was the Winter salad.
The experience did not match the reviews. Our server was very good and the sommelier chose a great wine but we were underwhelmed by the food.
Probably the best restaurant I have eaten at.
Make no mistake Millwrights delivers as advertised. An authentic menu from cocktail to dessert delivered by a professional, with atmosphere that made the special occasion very romantic coupled with a beforehand suggestion of flowers from the local florist, made this a remarkable evening. Pink peppercorn gin & grapefruit and vodka + pomegranate juice with thyme were the cocktails. Started with Lobster & black garlic aioli and gnochi with duck confit as apps, osso buco & short ribs for entrees and green apple bombe for dessert. Suggested wine by glass was perfect with the meal. Looking forward to returning and sampling other items on the menu.
