Visiting Gainesville for the evening and found an absolutely wonderful restaurant in Mildreds. A smallish, slightly out of the way place than you might find in Chicago or New York.
Outstanding food and excellent service from Chris! My wife and I enjoyed every bite of our dinner (salmon for me, scallops for her).
Chris was delightful, professional and funny.
If you are in the area, go here and enjoy a terrific evening!
Food is always delicious. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary, and I made a reservation earlier that day which stated it was a special occasion. We were crammed between 2 large tables with a person's back almost touching our table. It's an older crowd usually. We're early 40s and were by far the youngest there. Shared a soup and salad to start, then hanger steak and flounder, followed by raspberry choc cake and cappuccinos. 100$ even plus tip is fairly reasonable for excellent food.
We learned so much about the recipes, the ingredients, the flavors. The passion for food is evident in all they do at Mildred’s. We visit every time we’re in town and have a memorable experience each time. Maryanne made our most recent experience so special.
Excellent food and service, as always. Server and chef were very accommodating about food sensitivities and provided a great meal.
Best meal in Gainesville
Robert, our waiter- personable and knowledgeable!
Desserts to die for!
Our hostess even asked us if we were going to a show after dinner ( how did she know?! We were!) and filled a bag of ice to keep our leftovers cool!
Our group of 4 had our expectations exceeded!
The food was delicious, as we've heard about. The best part was the Service. Our waitress gave us the best recommendations at every step. She was so wonderful. She made the experience one that we will remember for a long time. Thank you!
While a bit costly, it is still an excellent choice for fine dining.
We had a delicious dinner, great service, where we were able to talk ...
We came for a birthday. Ordered the frisée salad, Hanger steak and duck breast. Everything was perfect as well as the bread and butter. Robert, our server, was attentive, skilled and friendly.
Always good food and good service. Great place for a business meal or a quiet dinner for two because the atmosphere is always good for talking.
We found this while traveling and have already recommended it to friends. Our server was very congenial, and the foie gras was a huge treat!
Excellent food and service once again and pricing is appropriate for the quality of the cuisine. Plenty of good choices on the menu. Outstanding desserts. Only complaint at all is I wish the lighting was a bit less bright, it would improve the ambiance.
This is the best place in gainesville. We didn’t have any place like this when I was in school.
I live in Boca Raton, used to live in Apalachicola, my late husband and I ate often at Mildred's when we came to Gainesville to see the doctors at Shands. The food was wonderful then and 10 years later it is still as good. My grandson and I had a wonderful evening.
Been wanting to come here & finally got to! Was very impressed with the food & service. We had crab cakes, tomato salad, snapper, & salmon. All were outstanding. We were full from our meal so did not partake in dessert so maybe next time. Oh! Our server was AMAZING!! I requested a cosmo with Tito’s & a sugar rim & it was perhaps the best I’ve ever had - and our server is the one who made it. So glad we decided to finally try this place.
Wonderful food! Everything tasted exceptionally good. Service is also prompt and outstanding. The location makes it a little hard to find, but not impossible. It's all the way on the end of the building, past its other location New Deal Cafe. Plenty of parking at the end of the building, too, so you don't need to worry about finding a free space in front of New Deal. We had the snapper, the scallops, and a filet mignon. We shared the chocolate raspberry cake for dessert. Truly - the food is noteworthy - very, very impressive!
As usual, the wait staff and the food choices were excellent. I had the pleasure of introducing Mildred's Big City Food to a visiting business colleague who has dined in the area many times. He thanked me several times for making the recommendation that we dine at Mildred's and said over and over that he will eat there again when he returns to the area on business.
Always great food. Perfect ambiance and service
Cute little restaurant with nice atmosphere. The service was exceptional but the menu is small and a bit pricey especially for Gainesville.
Mildred’s is a pleasant restaurant with very good service. I would prefer that the lighting be not quite as bright, other than that the ambiance is good. I wish the menu would change. A varied menu was first advertised when Mildred’s opened, but it seems to be pretty standard now, with not much choice. The unusual preparation and lovely presentation is a positive.
Mildred’s is a nice place for a quiet dinner with friends, family or colleagues. The food is top shelf, the service spot on, and the ambiance a refreshing calm not found in most restaurants these days.
I had the pork chop and my dining partner had the hangar steak. Extremely tasty. Portion sizes more than adequate. i do wish they had the duck ALL the time.
Our pre-dinner beverages were wonderful — well-made very dry martini and a local, craft distillery vodka.
Service was efficient and quite personable. When the green beans were undercooked, they happily made another dish for us. I will never understand adding sugar to sweet potatoes, but, hey, this is the south.
This is my favorite place in Gainesville to have a special dinner. A little high priced for Gainesville (maybe about +20%), but worth it.
It is always a special night when we dine at Mildreds. The chef is inventive. Because we want to try other items on the menu we are planning to return soon.
This was our second visit, both for anniversaries and the return visit was as good as first 15 yrs ago.
Always good service, good food, and a nice setting for a business meal.
Great food in a calm setting. Perfect for a quiet dinner, a business dinner, an anniversary, a first date.
Very good, exceeded expectations, well worth its high ratings, great wine list, service was spot on, everything we ate was amazingly delicious, good variety of entrees.
Mildred’s is no secret but it is tucked away and easy to miss in a crowded college town. The menu was fantastic and the cozy atmosphere provided a comforting level of privacy. Cheers!
Always a favorite when in Gainesville. Food and service excellent.
Very accommodating and friendly
I wish we would have discovered this restaurant sooner; what a hidden gem in Gainesville! My daughter graduated from UF and we had her graduation dinner here. I am very discerning with my dining experiences and Mildred’s surpassed all of my expectations. The management is accommodating and appreciates their diners, our waiter John took excellent care of us and the food was exquisite.
We will return, and make the hour drive back into Gainesville for this exceptional dining experience.
Our server was fantastic, but the Filet Migon, ordered medium rare, came out well done, and the ceaser salad was drowning in dressing. I like the concept, just not executed very well.
Food and service was exceptional! Our waiter from France was great! We had a combination of appetizers and main course and everyone loved the meal. Will for sure return.
I've stayed away from Mildred's for years due to my dislike of the way the employees were treated by the chef/owner and management, my daughter being just one of many. We've always enjoyed the food but I'm a firm believer in supporting, or not, local businesses. That being said, my husband talked me off my moral high ground and we made reservations for a weekend night.
We ordered the Country Pate ($11) and two Caesar Salads ($8 each) and enjoyed both. The pate was a very generous serving and the salads were cold and crisp, the croutons were the crunchiest I've ever had! Unfortunately, there are better quality anchovies out there than those that topped the salad.
I ordered the Grouper w/ Lemon Risotto ($28) and they knocked it out of the park. I prefer risotto that's not too soupy and this one was perfect, just perfect! I've lived in Florida for decades, we sail, we fish, we know grouper. I've had grouper all over. The portion was not only substantial, it was the best cooked grouper I've ever had! I could have finished it all, but saved a little of both take home to enjoy again.
We are both lamb enthusiasts and my husband ordered the Lamb Trio ($32). I ALMOST wished I had ordered it too...the rib two chops were perfectly cooked (med rare), the sausage was okay, the falafel - meh, but the neck was the star. I could have rolled around in that! Someone in the kitchen knows how to handle lamb in more than one incarnation - thank you!
Their desserts remain above reproach!
The service was just a tad inconsistent, but very pleasant and personable.
The food was very good. For the second time in a row when we tried to order the fish it was already sold out. Please plan for more fish eaters.
Waiter was new and inexperienced which we understood. It was a Monday night and we had a 6:45 reservation yet some menu items were already unavailable.
Somehow, this did not live up to past experiences there. The food is almost always exciting-this time it was blah. Desert choices were reduced and there was no sorbet. The carrot cake seemed as if it had been frozen.
Mildred’s is one of my favorite restaurants in Gainesville. The quality of food, service, and ambiance are unsurpassed. The staff is very professional and friendly.
