Japanese
The ancient tradition of the Samurai lives on at Mikado where knife-twirling chefs use fire and steam to create a mouth watering menu of steak, chicken and seafood delights. The highlight of the experience is the dazzling talents of your chef as he expertly chops, juggles, jokes and prepares an incredible meal right before your eyes. While you are led to your table through our private Japanese garden, notice the Koi swimming below and the sound of cascading waterfalls.

Mikado at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa is known throughout the Coachella Valley and Southern California as the leader in authentic Teppan-Yaki Dining.

But it doesn’t stop there! East meets West at the ultimate sushi bar where you can relax and enjoy the freshest foods and a signature martini or sake. Celebrate an intimate gathering or a private function up to 140 guests at Mikado where the food is the show! Arigato!

The food was excellent. Our chef our was entertaining and talented. The group across from us was rowdy and loud enough you couldn’t hear the person next to you speak. Would recommend for bringing friends to fill your table.

Wasn’t over the top for a specialty restaurant. Bill was over $200 for two of us, and I don’t believe we got value. Don’t mind paying for a dining experience, but this wasn’t up to high end standards. No knife skills, no humour, no story on the grill. Other than some banging on the grill with his spat, there was nothing. Food was average at best, have to think twice before we’d return ...

Was not happy with our seating arrangements. Hostess was rude and condescending to say the least. Restaurant was empty and they would not accommodate us to move to another location. Would not return or recommend it to anyone. We were excited to eat there. This is not the precedent that I know Marriott would want to set. Very disappointed.

I come to the Palm Springs area every year. And every year I dine at Mikado. I've been doing this for 26 years. Mikado is always the highlight of the trip.

The food here was so delicious. They were very careful not to add dairy to any of my husband's food because of his food allergy. The kids were kept entertained by the chef. Fun was had by all!

Go! You will have a fun evening with great food. When you arrive, go into the main lobby and take the boat to the restaurant. It adds to the experience. I asked for "no salt" in my food, and they complied perfectly and cheerfully. Great place!

Unfortunately salty....waste of money. This is my perspective even as a BonVoy Titanium Elite member; just no excuse. I booked this place thinking it was a good sushi place and the surprise started with it being a hamachi place- which we thought was going to be a great experience but instead we got loads of sodium; so much so, that everything tasted the same. Save your money and go to #Benihana and if you great sushi..go to #sandfish in Palm Springs.

Everything was good but not great. Dinner was too rushed for me. I had the steak and lobster. Lobster was good. Steak was a fillet but not as tender as I expected.

Took my wife for Valentines Day. We got there for the first table of the night and got to watch the sun start to set behind the mountain while on the boat, the last time we went it was already dark so that was very nice. Chef was awesome had some good one liners, pretty good on the knife for his "first time" haha. I wasn't so good at catching the shrimp when he had me slide my chair way back but he hit my mouth every time so good aim. The heart cake was cool, everything was super delicious and the filet was cooked to perfection. Will definitely go again.

The hostess was exceptionally rude when we arrived. The “cook” was jovial, but added so much butter to our meals, we were all sick. (Just a suggestion, but perhaps ask people how they would like their food prepared.)

All in all, not a good night.

Such poor ambience.

I won’t recommend this to anyone.

We have been here several times in the past, unfortunately this meal was not so hot. Our chef was pretty boring and the service was really slow and inattentive. I don't mind spending the money on good food, a good experience and good service....but this didn't measure up.

We were staying on the JW Marriott property once and noticed the restaurant’s popularity. So on our next date weekend, we made a reservation well in advance and made it a point to dine here. The reservations fill up very quickly on holiday weekends. Being a teppanyaki style family restaurant serving many large groups, reservations is a must if you want to dine in. The cocktails we had after the hostess checked us were awesome, especially the Mikado Delight with our favorite brand of gin. Our performing chef Fabian is a professional providing us with great entertainment and tasty food. We had the Sumo special which includes all the proteins and serves two. With the delicious ginger dressing salad and fried rice/steam rice accompaniment, the Sumo could have been more than satisfactory for three. The shrimp, scallops, lobster tail, chicken and filet mignon were really quality meats cooked to perfection. We highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area.
