About Merrick Inn
Built before the Civil War and completely remodeled in 1936 by the Cal Milam family, the Merrick Inn served as the manor house for one of Lexington"s finest horse farms.
It was here at Merrick Place, that Milam and his groom, Mr. Johnson, trained the fabled "Exterminator", Kentucky Derby winner of 1918. Here also, "Tut Tut", Komuraski, Commodore, Brown Wisdom, Miss Joy, Milkmaid, McKee and Dust Flower started on their paths to fame and fortune. None of these, however, gained such widespread fame as Merrick himself. Merrick finished in the money 157 times, winning 62 races.
The Merrick Inn has been owned and operated by the Murray family for nearly 40 years. Offering the finest in traditional southern dining and innovative specials. Times have changed, but we believe the beauty and charm of our inn remain the same.

Merrick Inn Ratings and Reviews
The patio is wonderful when the weather cooperates. The bar is cozy and lively. The restaurant is lovely with many rooms and interesting equestrian artwork. The host Alex is charming. Would share the name of our favorite waiter but we don't want him to be swamped!
I was visiting Lexington and Griffin Gate for a two day get away with the wife. After graduating from UK in 1970 I continued to live in Lexington for the next 29 years until moving away in 1999. I have eaten at Merrick Inn for all of those 29 years and never had a meal that was not exceptional- what else can I say! Can't wait to get back for the next get away. I just hope I am lucky enough to sit in front of the fireplace in the bar again on a winter evening. First Class in every way from food to service.
We were traveling thru Lexington and wanted to dine in a lovely local place featuring local specialities . The Merrill Inn certainly was lovely and the food and drinks certainly fit the bill, but we were so disappointed- and as our dinning experience wore on really irritated , to have been seated next to a table of 12 really loud women celebrating a birthday. Their loudness made it almost impossible for us to talk and enjoy our dinner. I mentioned this to our waiter and the hostess who seated us. Each acknowledged the problem but neither made any effort to improve our experience. I would think a so sorry and a complimentary something would have been called for. Felt even worse for the couple at the next table who had just renewed the marriage vows.....
Absolutely tremendous!! From the beginning, superior service and attention; wonderfully prepared and tasting food...Monday night is 1/2 price bottles of wine and the crowd refelected it. Reservations a must. Certainly can see why it is TripAdvisor’s #1 restautant in Lexington.
We visited the Merrick Inn as a final evening out after a very enjoyable stay in Lexington. This was a great way to celebrate a very fun stay. The staff at Merrick were exceptional and all very polite. The ambiance was romantic and set the mood for an exceptional meal. The entrees arrived and were beautifully presented, warm/hot and very delicious. The bar area was inviting and the room in which we ate had a fire place and low lighting. I would most definitely go back and recommend anyone visit The Merrick Inn.
Our visit to The Merrick Inn was awesome! The reservation through Open Table was so easy! Morgan gave us excellent service and even offered some added area information since we were visiting in Lexington. We were seated next to the fireplace, as requested, which made for great ambiance. Our room held about 5 tables so the noise level was conducive to dinner conversation. Our food was delicious. I had a scallop special appetizer (3 scallops served on a potato cake with creamed spinach) and a Merrick Salad, which was plenty for a meal, leaving room to share a dessert. The scallops were cooked to perfection! The bread pudding of the evening for dessert was outstanding. It had a bourbon (we WERE in Kentucky) caramel pecan sauce to die for. Great value for money, service, ambiance and food. I will return the next time I am in Kentucky and cannot recommend highly enough!
First time with just my wife and I dining. Had a really small table. A plus was that the server noticed that I emptied my water glass very quickly, so she put a container of water on our table. This was a celebration of our 54 years of marriage. Crab cake starter was awesome. The rest of the meal did not match enjoyment of the starter. I had a chicken dish and baked potatoe, nothing special except the price. Wife had the fish special with corn pudding and onion casserole. Fish was okay, corn dish was plain, but the onion dish was great. Price was Special too. $36.95. Woops. Forgot my second side. A beef broth, noodle and mushroom soup. Tasted real good. Unless someone gives me $150 I will not be back.
I've been to Merrick several times and it never disappoints! The food was spectacular (house salad with champagne vinaigrette and fried chicken!) and the waitress, Amy, was amazing and attentive. We were in to celebrate and she brought us a delicious dessert with a candle. I would highly suggest coming here! One of the best southern cooking in Lexington!
Wonderful meal in unique setting , lobster and crab nachos were great and huge portion would serve at least 6 as would the fried banana peppers which were tasty too. Table favorites were the prime rib and pork tenderloin with corn pudding (green beans were least favorite ) save room for the delicious desserts , all were fabulous! We took Uber which I recommend
Very busy on a Friday night and had to wait about 20 minutes past reservation time with no place to sit down, but staff was friendly and attentive. Very generous sized entrees. Be sure you're hungry if ordering an appetizer. The walleye pike was fresh and cooked perfectly. Champagne chicken pasta was tasty, but pasta a little over done.
Food was amazing! Atmosphere cozy and first class. Such a unique and special place. I found out you can order from bar menu too. Some nights I would like to come but don’t want to spend as much as the regular menu. Being able to use that menu when I make a last minute middle of the week dinner plan will now help me add Merrick to my list of options.
We went to Merrick for dinner and to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary.
This isn't our first time and Merrick is one of a few destinations we go to in the area.
The service was excellent from the time we pulled up to the concierge out front until we left.
Jillian was a superb waitress - on top of everything, especially gluten free options.
The food was fantastic as always and we had a very lovely evening finishing up our meal with a desert embellished with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate on the serving dish.
Highly recommend Merrick!
We have dined @ the restaurant for over 30 years, the food is almost always outstanding as is the service. My one gripe being that the restaurant never acknowledges a special occasion with a free dessert for the person or persons celebrating their occasion. Almost every restaurant in their price range does provide a free dessert. Our friend was celebrating her 91st birthday I hardly think a slice of pie or cake or even ice cream would break the restaurant.
I love this restaurant for my anniversary because it is near our house and is cozy and comfortable as well as being elegant. The food is always wonderful and delicious.
I would eat there more often if I had a lot more money. The service is always outstanding and we are made to feel special. Thank you.
Sirs: Merrick Inn is a "go-to" place for dining on all our visits to Lexington. Always a wonderful experience. While you couldn't fulfill our request for an earlier reservation, the staff was attentive and seated us at the much desired "cozy" table in the bar seating area. See you again during our next visit to Lexington!
