It was here at Merrick Place, that Milam and his groom, Mr. Johnson, trained the fabled "Exterminator", Kentucky Derby winner of 1918. Here also, "Tut Tut", Komuraski, Commodore, Brown Wisdom, Miss Joy, Milkmaid, McKee and Dust Flower started on their paths to fame and fortune. None of these, however, gained such widespread fame as Merrick himself. Merrick finished in the money 157 times, winning 62 races.
The Merrick Inn has been owned and operated by the Murray family for nearly 40 years. Offering the finest in traditional southern dining and innovative specials. Times have changed, but we believe the beauty and charm of our inn remain the same.
In Lexington for a long weekend, wedding anniversary trip. Went to the Merrick Inn for dinner Saturday night. What a great restaurant! Food was amazing, service was outstanding. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food.
A lovely old horse farm house converted into a restaurant. We expressed interest in the history of the property and the manager was nice enough to give us a tour and some great details on the story of the Merrick Inn. Definitely plan to return to Lexington and the Merrick Inn
We would’ve liked to have the food of the one person cut up as requested but that’s OK, we still enjoyed everything.
Excellent, as always!
The only negative was there was a group meeting / conference going on, and they kept interrupting us because we were seated very close. It was not a big issue. But something to consider when placing patrons. We still had a very wonderful experience.
I already knew that my visit would be perfect, even before I got there. It's always perfect. The food & service are both exceptional. The Merrick Inn makes good on those little touches - the little something extra that others would overlook. For instance, Even though we were full and did not order dessert, our server brought us a plate of strawberries, cream & chocolate drizzle to say Happy Anniversary. The host seemed very glad to see us when we arrived and made us feel special. The valet met us as soon as we walked out the front door, rather than waiting for us to walk to him. These are all great people, delivering exceptional food & service. This is why it's my favorite place to eat in Lexington. And the Grouper Fingers. Always got to have the Grouper Fingers!
We are vacationing here and wanted the historical experience of dining in a horse farm home. This 150+ yr home was in great condition and clean. Everyone was friendly and we really enjoyed our food. The salad was crisp and ingredients of good quality. The Southern Fried chicken was memorable. The meal was surprisingly economical. We might return this trip.
My favorite Lexington restaurant. Food is outstanding time after time
It was a very wonderful evening. The food and service was excellent
Merrick Inn is one of our “go-to” restaurants for a nice meal. Love the atmosphere and the food is delicious.
The grouper fingers were hot and crispy - delicious as usual. Hubs had the ribeye and could barely finish that huge hunk of meat. He was very happy with his choice. I tried the grouper special and it was fantastic. The crispy breading, creamy lemon butter sauce with blueberry “salad” were perfect. We travel approximately 40 miles to visit Merrick Inn a couple of times each year. It was a real treat for Hubs birthday dinner.
Once again a memorable dinner at Merrick Inn. Our server Amy was fantastic and very helpful and entertaining. I had one of the best New York Strips that I have ever had. I was not aware that on Mondays they have half price on all wine bottles except those high price ones that no sane person would order. They also have prime rib on Mondays for $19.95. I wonder where we are going next Monday?
The food is always delicious and our server was so warm and friendly, superb service. We very much look forward to our special occasion visits here.
Great service in the bar and restaurant, enjoyed the dining experience. The dining room was busy on random Monday night. We had a reservation but spent 40 minutes in the bar making ourselves late for it. We appreciate the host encouraging our spontaneous bouron related delay and still quickly finding us a nice table quickly.
The waitress was super attentive, very friendly. My wedge salad was great, plenty of dressing and blue cheese. The Walleye Pike was good, as always. The Halibut special was also excellent. I think next time my collegue may sit with his back to the dining room to secretly lick the plate. On the down, the area by the old bar was not in use and appeared to have work going on. It's a bit offputting on the way to the bathroom but probably temporary.
Merrick Inn is a welcome change from the local usual places. I'll be back.
Not a good value for the money....the food and value were better several years ago.
We have been visiting Lexington for 6 years , like to support local eateries as opposed to chain restaurants. 1st time here, went for my daughter 23rd bday dinner.Very satisfied. Morgan K made the visit worthwhile .
WE had the best night at Merrick our waitress was the best, she answered all of our questions and really helped guide us to make the best food choices, and the food, wine and dessert was FAB!!!
Love Merrick Inn, will be back!
Great food and service. Generous wine serving and excellent service. Our area really got loud halfway through our seating, but otherwise, excellent.
Yes, it is a lovely Inn, food delicious, everyone so very pleasant and w loved our server Krista!
We love the Merrick Inn! It is a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion, but anytime is fine. Love the atmosphere and excellent service. Enjoyed the Monday night half-price bottle of wine. The special oyster appetizer was delicious, as was the pecan-crusted pork tenderloin. You can never go wrong with poundcake, ice cream and strawberries for dessert.
1/2 price wine Monday is about the best deal around and usually it’s quiet so you can just take your time and enjoy yourself.
We sat by a cozy fireplace. We enjoyed appetizers, soup, entrees, desserts and wonderful drinks. Our waitress was wonderful and very helpful. We will definitely go back.
Special 3-course meal offer was excellent—flavorful, reasonable portions, good value. Comfortable, old-house setting. Friendly and attentive staff.
Celebrated our daughter’s 30th Birthday with friends from Lexington and Arkansas. Great dinner, service, and Lexington tradition for our guests! Wonderful evening!
Wonderful ambiance. Awesome good and the best service in town.
Food was great , the service was very good, it is a very nice and interesting building, the noise level is a little high
Everything was wonderful. You made our daughter’s 30th birthday very special.
I’m never disappointed when I go to Merrick Inn. It’s my go to place to take outvof town guests. Tip: you most always have to request the HM yeast rolls before they bring the bread basket (they don’t make that many) so make sure you ask. I would only have one suggestion to the owners or kitchen staff
Appetizers are awesome but for the price you don’t serve a big enough portion. We love the banana peppers but for 12.50 you should get more than 7, and grouper fingers, as well. But they are delicious!
Daughter home from college
Really nice place. The value of the food was great! The service was top notch too.
Great in every way. Only issue is the noise.
This was a return visit to Merrick Inn because our first visit was so good! I got the Pecan Crusted Pork Tenderloin and it was DELICIOUS! In fact, last night it was featured on The Cooking Channel show, "The Best Thing I Ever Ate!" I would highly recommend!
Ordered the fish special: grouper over lobster ravioli. Fish was rubbery and dry/overcooked. Ended up just eating the 3 ravioli. Service was exceptional.
My Dad turned 78 and we wanted to take him somewhere special. My husband and I both work in hospitality, so it’s hard not to be judgmental. We’re happy to tell you, our service was impeccable ( thanks Pierre ) and our food was delicious. Great experience!!!! We’ll definitely be back.
The Merrick was a magnificent choice, this was out first time there and we were impressed. The service was astonishing, food was delicious and loved the charm of the whole place. Tried the Lobster Nachos, the way they were prepared, smelled and tasted was a delight. Main courses even better. We will definitely be back again to enjoy the Merrick in.
Absolutely wonderful meal, Pierre our server was very friendly and very helpful. Great spot for a Valentine's dinner!
Great food with attention to detail!
MI is and has always been my choice for special occasions. I will continue doing so!
Awesome atmosphere, food and service!
Highly recommend to everyone, especially out of town guests looking for a flavor of Central Kentucky!
