It was here at Merrick Place, that Milam and his groom, Mr. Johnson, trained the fabled "Exterminator", Kentucky Derby winner of 1918. Here also, "Tut Tut", Komuraski, Commodore, Brown Wisdom, Miss Joy, Milkmaid, McKee and Dust Flower started on their paths to fame and fortune. None of these, however, gained such widespread fame as Merrick himself. Merrick finished in the money 157 times, winning 62 races.
The Merrick Inn has been owned and operated by the Murray family for nearly 40 years. Offering the finest in traditional southern dining and innovative specials. Times have changed, but we believe the beauty and charm of our inn remain the same.

Great! Love Merrick!
Most amazing meal in a long time. Everything was superb.
Food, Service, and ambiance all you would expect and more.
Will be returning often. A real gem.
Our first visit. We had been referred by family who rave about Merrick. We were not disappointed. Food was excellent. Service was impeccable.
It was good but I think you could give a little more salad out .I think you should get some better comfortable chairs those are warn out.You should have more parking available .
Abby was absolutely wonderful. The evening was so nice and the dinners were lovely. We highly recommend Merrick to all foodies like us.
Good southern comfort food with outstanding fried chicken. Top notch service. It was exceptionally noisy the evening we were there.
Fried chicken outstanding but the height of our experience was Tina our server...wonderful professional, very nice person.
The meal was delicious. Our server, Pierre, was very attentive and helpful. It was my mother's birthday and she had a lovely evening.
Friendly staff. Our waitress was great and knew eveything. Food was fantastic. Being there for my first time, would go again. A little noisy when it's busy, but after that, it is cozy and romantic. A must if you have never been
The Merrick Inn is one of our favorite restaurants to celebrate special occasions like birthdays, our anniversary and to be with friends. The service is outstanding, the food exceptional and the ambience is extra-special. While a tad pricey, the experience is worth every penny!
Absoultly delicious experience ! Service and atmosphere were nothing less than perfect. Love this place!
IT was nice! Food and service was good. Specials were great!
Food was great; service was wonderful!!
food and service was great, my date's first time there and she thought it was amazing.. I will be going there again
Very nice dinner while we were visiting Lexington. All the food was excellent, especially the prime rib. We were so full that we didn’t have dessert but I am sure they would have been awesome.
One of our favorite places, Southern charm, good food and service. The items that remain on the menu are there for a reason, you can’t go wrong with them. Lots of good restaurants in Lexington and this one is always top 10!
Always great, great food, drink and service was excellent!
Had a great anniversary dinner. We would definitely return when we come back to Lexington.
Great food with average service. I treated a girlfriend to dinner on a Monday night. Nathan was our server. I don’t think he smiled the entire evening and was not friendly at all. While informing us of the specials, he failed to mention their Monday wine special (half priced bottles of wine) which is a GREAT special. I got the grouper special which was very good. My baked potato was cold unfortunately but I didn’t want to complain. I was surprised to see that the fish special was $38 when we got the bill. Would have been nice to hear prices of specials prior so no surprises. Wine special was a nice treat. Will definitely return but just hope for nicer server next time, especially at an establishment as nice as Merrick Inn.
Wonderful last minute dinner while we were attending college orientation at UK, reservations easily made through OpenTable. Pierre was a wonderful server, very competent and we never had to ask for a thing. The fried green tomatoes were amazing and the grouper was delicious! My son was very happy with the fried chicken. This wasn't our first dining experience at the Merrick Inn, always pleased. The only reason for 4 stars on ambiance was that we felt it was too dark for 5:30 pm inside the restaurant and very dim.
Really good food and service. Prime Rib was some of the best I have ever had.
Our meal was very nice. The only unfortunate note of the evening was that we were seated next to a large party with loud children. It's understandable that they want to have a nice dinner, but it impacted our ability to enjoy a conversation without yelling over their noise.
The Pork Chop was awesome as were the Scallops. Portion was fine for the Pork but for $36 you only were served 3 Scallops. We had the Grouper Fingers which are always terrific.
Merrick was fabulous as always. Excellent atmosphere, food and service! Always our fav!
I got the Walleye Pike fried. It's the best fish I've ever had. I'm usually a steak guy but I wanted to try fish that day and it was awesome.
Came to celebrate my 25th birthday. Food and service was excellent! My steak was cooked perfectly. Loved the strawberry short cake. Thank you so much!
Merrick is always at the top of their game
Amanda was perky and humorous. Food was delightful Decorations are very horsey and quite fun
Lovely venue, fantastic service, delicious food!! We love Merrick!
We celebrated our 31st anniversary early and tried Merrick’s Inn for the first time. First of all, excellent service by Haley! Our cocktails were excellent seasonal picks. Filet was perfect and the fish of the day, Corvina, was amazing. We took our desserts to go, a French silk and a butterscotch bread pudding. All I can say is, ahhhhhh. We will be back!
Great night getting reacquainted with the Merrick. Always a great time and always clever with food choices and service. Dined outside which is always fun. Wine and food was great as expected at an uber reasonable price point.
Defiantly a must when visiting Lexington!
Went to dinner to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. Was seated right next a family of at least 15. Could hardly hear each other talk. I’m 6’1 and was seated at a table pretty much against the wall, which was not fun. I ordered the broccoli with hollandaise and she ordered the asparagus casserole as sides. My broccoli hollandaise was definitely heavy on the lemon. It was very tart. Her asparagus casserole was a very small portion and literally had three small pieces of asparagus in it. My steak, what was the aged NY strip was cooked perfectly. Which I was very happy with. She ordered the Merrick Ribeye medium rare which was over cooked except for the very center which was medium rare. They also broke down two tables where the family of 15 people were sitting right in front of us while we were eating. Which was very awkward. Overall was not happy and do not recommend for a quiet special occasion at all.
We had 3 people and wanted to sit on the patio. We made a reservation, but when we arrived were told that only the dining room accepted reservations. There were two open 6 tops outside, but they would not allow us to sit there without 6 people. The wait was 45 minutes and I have a young child. We sat in the bar which was less than ideal with a child but we were underdressed for the dining room. They came after we had ordered our food and offered to let us move to a 6 top. At that point the amount of work to move our appetizers and drinks along with toys etc would have been significant. I will not be back with a group. The food presentation was nice, but it was a frustrating experience when we just wanted to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. I had a similar experience last year when it was just me. I had decided to give it another try.
Food was great. We had a new waiter - she was attentive (not overly), friendly and upbeat (she did forget to deliver a salad, but made up for it). Eating on the patio was really nice, though extremely noisy. My least favorite part of eating here is parking - I've never been able to find an empty spot that isn't labeled as "resident" (the restaurant is nestled in an apartment complex, with narrow streets), so you're forced to use the "complimentary valet service" (valets only work for tips).
As always had a fantastic meal and great service. The special for the evening was prime rib and it was delicious. My wife had the filet mignon as is her usual here. She was delighted with it. The salad is tasty and the dressings made on site are great. Another wonderful birthday celebration!
I have never left a review before, as I have never before been to a restaurant worthy of the effort. Merrick Inn is definitely worth that effort. The food was outstanding and worth every penny. The grouper fingers with mustard sauce was hands down the best appetizer I have ever had. For my main course I ordered the special that night, halibut with a crab and heirloom tomato salsa on top and a shallow layer of lobster bisque underneath. For my sides I got the green beans and house salad with their house dressing. The green beans were as close to my Grandmother's as I've ever had and the house dressing was phenomenal! The fish was perfectly prepared and the flavor profile with the salsa on top and bisque underneath was excellent. My dinner companion got the 14 oz. Ribeye and swears it's better than any steak at Malone's. For dessert we shared the creme brulee. It was very good. There are only two negative things I can think to say, and one is a stretch. First, our waitress strictly took our order and brought our food. There was nothing wrong with her service, it was pretty timely, but all of the tables around us had extraordinary waiters. We ended up listening to the waiter at the table behind us for recommendations, chit chat, and little tidbits about the Merrick Inn. He was great. We both enjoyed listening to him. Like I said, that was a stretch because she was prompt and we wanted for nothing. Second, and definitely inconvenient, was the restroom situation. There is one restroom and it is about the size of a closet that serves one. There is no real room in the narrow hallway to wait on the previous patron to finish, plus it is a little ridiculous that such a seemingly large place has one teeny, tiny restroom for women. I would assume it's the same for the men but I don't know that for a fact. All in all the atmosphere was great, the meal was probably the best I've ever had, and we really enjoyed our evening at the Merrick Inn. I will definitely be back!
Merrick Inn is our favorite! Never disappoints.
We went to celebrate our anniversary. Was a very good experience. A great waiter! Only problem was parking.
It was delightful. Great waitress. Food was fabulous
Had always hear good things about this place. It didn’t disappoint. Everything we ordered was great.
