It was here at Merrick Place, that Milam and his groom, Mr. Johnson, trained the fabled "Exterminator", Kentucky Derby winner of 1918. Here also, "Tut Tut", Komuraski, Commodore, Brown Wisdom, Miss Joy, Milkmaid, McKee and Dust Flower started on their paths to fame and fortune. None of these, however, gained such widespread fame as Merrick himself. Merrick finished in the money 157 times, winning 62 races.
The Merrick Inn has been owned and operated by the Murray family for over 40 years. Offering the finest in traditional southern dining and innovative specials. Times have changed, but we believe the beauty and charm of our inn remain the same.
Excellent as usual. Very friendly and proficient waitress. Love the Merrick!
Wonderful restaurant with a fantastic ambiance. The food was stellar. Will definitely return.
Great dining experience. It never disappoints.
We had the strip steak and vegetable platter with side salads/blue cheese dressing. The food was delicious as always! Carli is always such a delight and her attention to detail is always spot on. Definitely one of our favorite places to go for any occasion.
That was probably some of the best service we have ever received. Our server Morgan was outstanding. She was always there when we needed something. Great anniversary dinner. THANKS!!
We dined in the Library, which was beautiful and cozy. Our waiter, Jason, was excellent. The homemade squash soup was divine. Other than the room being a bit too cold, it was a perfect evening. I loved sharing Merrick Inn with my out-of-town guests! I consider it the "Best in the Bluegrass"!!!
The first visit was good 3 years ago. This time the asparagus side order was slim, had 7 pencil size but short spears which were gone in 4 bites. The baked potato was ok. Side orders did not fill me up at all. The walleye fried lightly was what you are known for, and was not tasty as the breading was not crispy but limp with no flavor! Wish I would have gotten the salmon like my relative did. The bread basket was the best part of my meal. Disappointed this visit, probably won't return.
Top 10 meals of all time for us! Pecan crusted pork loin is something I will dream about for the rest of my life. Great food, excellent service, very comfortable. Can’t wait to be back in the area so we can go again.
Such a great meal... Jason our server was fantastic. Food was outstanding. We really had a great time.
The place is absolutely beautiful. The service was friendly and on time. Had the crab cakes for an appetizer, Grouper for a main course and blueberry cobbler for dessert. All was very flavorful. Will definitely be back.
really excellent in all aspects, would certainly go again
my favorite place in Lexington, haven't been there for a while. Service excellent, food was not as good as I remembered it. Had the Walleye and it was just ok, sister had pork chops and rated just ok. Vegetables, salads and appetizer were really good.
Excellent as always. We've been going there for our anniversary for a couple of years, and will do it again next year. The food was great, our server was great and its a great location.
The valet parking and covered walkway is a plus. The table was ready on-time. The rooms are small enough to separate and create some intimacy. The dinner entrees were delightful. The Bill Best tomato appetizer was not. The tomatoes were not ripe yet. Given the right timing, this would have been delightful. We all ordered them and were all disappointed. Heirlooms can be so delicious. The red snapper, walleye, and salmon were cooked to perfection. The service was unobtrusive and personified a well trained wait staff.
Loved this restaurant! Bar was cozy, friendly - Like being in a friends home. Dinner was delightful. Delicious meal & exceptional service. When in Lexington, a definite choice.
Pierre was great!
Wife’s Birthday. Merrick Inn is always our first choice for special occasion dining.
Took my wife for our first anniversary dinner. The price was worth the service. The gave us a special plate with desert for our celebration.
Fascinating facility! So many different dining/drinking areas, both inside and outside. Staff were all very polite, knowledgeable and efficient! Food was excellent!
We had a wonderful time. Recommend to all. Great server, food and atmosphere.
The food is always beyond excellent!!!
Overall excellent experience. Jason is an excellent server, drinks were superb. Appetizer and main courses top notch. Will go again.
Delicious as always and best Hot Brown I've had in Lexington. We especially enjoyed the "Dusty" Ancient Age.
My wife and I enjoyed a nice anniversary dinner here. I had the hot brown, which was delicious, and she had the fried chicken. We also enjoyed calamari and drinks before our meal. It was all very good!
Party of four, started with fried green banana peppers, ribeye, fried chicken, salmon and corn pudding, baked potato, asparagus, and spinach tomato casserole. All were excellent. Paired with a bottle of Dr. L Riesling which went well with the chicken and salmon. Finished with a delightful strawberry shortcake. The service was stellar and the setting is very inviting...
We dine at Merrick Inn 3-4 times a year and have done so for many years. The food and service are always excellent. We prefer to eat in the bar rather than in one of the more formal dining areas. It can get loud when crowded but is always enjoyable. We are fairly predictable and usually have the walleye, corn pudding, and green beans for the main course. They are really good and quite different from the food we normally get when dining out at home in Nashville, TN. Not very many places in Nashville serve walleye and that is one of our favorite fresh water fish. They always have some interesting special offerings and we have on occasion tried some of them which have always been excellent as well. A nice place to dine. We will continue to go there on some of our yearly trips to Lexington.
We love this restaurant!
The old southern style, friendly atmosphere, and choice of unique Kentucky dishes. The food is exceptional! It is a charming and wonderful place to bring our out of town visitors. The bar area is festive and fun.
Overall, we had a very good meal for our party of 6. Our appetizers and entrees were very tasty and nicely prepared. Our server was attentive. Our only problem was the noise level. A table across from us was very loud in an already noisy environment.
We have been eating here since 2001. Always a great meal!!!!!
Great place for many years! Patio is always
Pleasant. Food was Great!
Highly recommended. Best restaurant and food in Lexington. Jason is one of the best waiter we have ever had anywhere.
Handicapped parking and table access was very good. Quality of tomatoes chosen for entree was very poor. Grouper and Filet were excellent. Staff was awesome and made for a great birthday celebration.
As a long time Lexington resident, I had heard great things about the Merrick Inn. We chose it to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. It does not live up to the hype. The room was dark, cold and loud. The food while nicely presented was bland and underwhelming. The service was disappointing, from the greeter to our server. We certainly won’t go back.
Service and food was excellent. Noise level was high due to a large party across from us. There were at least three other tables for four set and ready to go so disappointed that they didn't honor our request to move to another table which would have been more intimate and quieter. Overall this tells you how popular this is even considering that it was a Wednesday night. Definitely recommend this restaurant despite the noise.
I love taking out of town guest here because it is such a unique experience. We shared the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and they were absolutely delicious. My guest ordered the special Florida grouper fish and I tried the ribeye steaks for the first time. I have to tell you, it is the best steak I’ve ever eaten. I could have cut it with a fork it was that tender. For dessert we decided to share the special blueberry cream Brulé because we wanted just a bite, but of course we devoured the entire thing!
It was such a great time celebrating our daughters 30th. Alex at the front was a great help and loved our server nastia!!
Outstanding service outstanding meal always a favorite place
The food and service was outstanding.
One of the BEST places to eat in Lexington for any occasion.
