Tuesday date night can’t be beat! Excellent service by the wait staff who bring you 2 high-end entrees, 2 delicious desserts, and bottomless bubbly for two people, all for under $50!

Great food and cocktails !

Really disappointed in the food. I had the nightly special and while it sounded amazing, what was presented as a ravioli in a consomme, it was really a fried wonton in a flavorless broth. Everything was under seasoned and because of the fried food in a liquid, completely soggy and impossible to eat.

We had a group of of 11 people. We had cocktails and appetizers and then had dinner. Wide variety of foods, all were good, no complaints. Service was great.

Wonderful Sunday brunch visiting our daughter in Madison

First time coming. The food was great. We had cheese curds - get them buffalo style - so good. The duck wings, steak frites, and lamb sliders were also great. Will definitely be back.

Our party of 5 had dinner here before a concert at the Sylvee. We had a wonderful waitress who was very knowledgeable and offered really good suggestions. Our drinks were top notch and we were excited to see the Restaurant Week menu choices had been extended for that evening. Every single dish that we had was excellent. We each chose a different appetizer and shared them. The duck wings were to die for! Overall, I was very pleased with yet another delicious experience and our out of state guests were blown away by their first Merchant experience. Well done, everyone. We'll be back soon!

We went for restaurant week on Friday night. Our waitress was A+. I had the squash burrata salad and that was my least favorite thing. I felt like it was over salted and the squash was kind of under cooked especially when it had the rind on it. It would have been better with a delicata squash or chunks of roasted butternut. Mu husband had the parsnip lobster bisque and the flavor was amazing.. however weirdly they put a giant mushroom on top that was tough and hard to eat. I had the steak and frites and he had the mussels and frites! Both amazing! Broth good enough to drink you just wanted bread 🥖 to soak it all up. I had the chocolate custard with luxardo cherries and my husband had the smoked maple creme brûlée with pecan sandies both were mouth watering delicious! Love the atmosphere except it it really really loud and hard to have a conversation without screaming!

Here's the thing. There were three different times that the server pointed out that something had just been 86ed, but it was still an extraordinary dining experience. Highly recommend it to diners without without dietary restrictions.

Food was good! Cocktails were good but a bit pricey. Our waiter was AMAZING. He was so helpful and checked on many times.

Anniversary dinner- kind of loud, but expected on a Friday night. Lamb Sliders are amazing. Mussels were just ok. Lots of great mixed drinks available.

Very friendly service and nice food. Good environment near the capitol. Decor in the restaurant pretty nice.

New Years eve

Came here for my parents anniversary and had it marked on the reservation. No one acknowledged it (server saw gifts being opened) but my sister had to tell our server. Service was very poor. Our server barely was available at the table (had to ask the host to get her). She forgot one of our guest's soda and then forgot to bring the additional water we asked for. When a soda refill was asked for it was never brought and she didn't come back until 10-15 minutes later and it was time for us to leave. My sister said she was hit by a plate being removed from the table and there was no apology or acknowledgement. When my mom asked about the preparation of the steak the server said "it comes with a sauce on it" but could not describe the sauce. Food was great but service was awful.

Our first visit, we will return. Very enjoyable experience, Service and the food were outstanding.

We had a great evening, good atmosphere and service. Muscles were excellent, as were the brussel sprouts and the pork chop. The sauce on the salmon overpowered it, it was quite sweet. The Market bowl was overwhelmed with lentils, a more Ballance mix of veggies would be good. The steak was cooked perfectly, but a bit under seasoned and very chewy.

While the food and service are excellent, the noise level was unacceptable at over 70 decibels on a week night. I can only imagine what it must be like on a weekend. High ceilings and all hard surfaces did nothing to endear this restaurant to us. There are plenty of other good restaurants to choose from. I will not be going back.

Food was below average. Nashville Chicken was spicy in an unpleasant and completely unfortunate way. Salad consisted of greens thrown on plate along with hot chicken. French toast was bright spot. But most of our party left hungry. This my third and probably last visit.

Glad we requested a booth, its a noisy space that I have a hard time enjoying with friends unless we get a quieter table. Love love the cocktails!

We had a party of 9 for brunch and every single person loved the food they had!

Merchant has a great vibe. It’s in a good location for getting to Monona Terrace, the Overture Center, and other downtown performance venues. If you really know your alcohols, or if you want to put yourself totally in the care of the professional mixologist, this is your place. The food at Sunday brunch was tasty, but nothing special. Still, I would go there again, and I would recommend it to others.

We celebrated our daughter's UW-Madison graduation with dinner at Merchant. As usual, nearly everything was great. Several people had the Steak Frites and loved it - the fries at Merchant are really good. We didn't love the Charcuterie platter, it didn't contain much cheese and nobody really liked the pickled vegetables. The winter cocktail selection is very good! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Merchant.

Great food and good staff. The place was busy, but definitely worth the wait.

Came to dine for Brunch, very calm atmosphere and good service. Good food, scotch eggs and mussels were pretty good. Mussels were not as tasty as the menu made them out to be, cream was very overwhelming to all the other flavors that were supposed to be there. Drink took just as long as the food to come out even though it was ordered before the food.
Will try again though!

Excellent food, great service, very good drinks—we would highly recommend. We’ll definitely be back during future visits to Madison whether it be for dinner or just a couple drinks. Keep up the great work Merchant.

Their drink deals are really great during the week. Half off bottles of wine on Wednesday really made our night. The food has always been great and we would definitely suggest this restaurant to others.
