Mercato Stellina Pizzeria Ratings and Reviews
Came here to celebrate a special occasion and noted that in the reservation notes. Even knowing that, the service was beyond terrible. Large tables that ordered after us were served before us. Restaurant offered complimentary appetizers to make up for delay and even those were not timely. Very poor experience ruined what should have been a lovely evening
Menu is basically pizza and very limited appetizers and salads. All bready items primarily. Great pizza and smoked mozzarella but too bread heavy for my tastes. Great service and wine. I’d look at it as more of a wine bar.
We had the house antipasto to start. Ingredients were quality and fresh, and balanced each other nicely. We tried the house red/white, which were good. For pizza, we had the Funghi. The crust was a fantastic balance of crispy with a soft, chewy inside of perfect thickness. The toppings were also great, but the sausage was overwhelming. My partner enjoyed the spice, however, so it depends on your palate.
The service was also top-notch. What stood out was the host, who I'm assuming is the owner/manager. He was friendly and went out of his way to make sure the people at each table were enjoying themselves and had what they needed.
A couple unfortunate details:
- The pizza was mostly tear-able with your hands, but some parts could have been better separated with a knife. Two problems with this: the knives given were too dull and bendy to cut the crust, and the pizza is set on top a wood block, so you can't really apply pressure to the board underneath without tipping it over.
- Sitting outside had a nice atmosphere, but the sidewalk has an incline, which makes sitting in the chairs uncomfortable. Additionally, the chairs were thin metal without much support. If I wasn't careful, my butt would fall through the back. It was altogether uncomfortable.
- The price for what we got was a little high. Given the quality, it wasn't too upsetting, but the antipasto was ~$12 and the pizza ~$20. This wouldn't be that bad, but the portion sizes were small, considering the price. The sizes were perfect, appetite-wise, though, so it'd be nice if they could just lower the prices a bit, or at least work on the silverware and chair issues mentioned above.
The first two bullets are why I rated Ambiance as Poor. Besides these issues, the ambiance was actually very nice. The restaurant is small, but is clean and pleasing to the eye.
I'm crossing my fingers this place works out these small details, as it really was great food and I'm hoping they stick around for a while.
Mercato Stellina is a local favorite with great staff and amazing food. Their creative menu uses fresh ingredients and always meets expectations. They have gluten free options available, and the staff is more than happy to work with any dietary restrictions. If you're looking for yummy pizza, this is your place!
Great place for a pizza, a salad and a beer/wine drink or two. Reservations unfold promptly, the manager usually stops by your table, and the wait staff does a nice job. We have a light meal here every week or two, and it season it is nice to sit out doors with the front of the restaurant in open air mode.
Girlfriends and I came to try everything on a Saturday evening. We enjoyed the salame pizza and the salsiccia with broccolini and porcini crema- rich! The tiramisu and the wine were delish. Our favorite thing was the burrata with honeycomb and sea salt cracker in the beginning. Special!
This is a great little pizzeria to get authentic pizza - not the big American-type pizza. Nice wines and salads. They are also very kid-friendly - they'll make your little ones individual plain cheese pizzas or individual pepperoni pizzas that they will love.
Upscale pizzerie serves quality food. Prosciuto di Parma w Arugula was so good. Went there on a Saturday at 6:30pm and the place was literally packed, so a reservation is recommended if you visit this restaurant at peak hours. Finding a parking slot can be a challenge.
Quaint little place with a tight menu - not too big and not too small. Happy hour wine was pretty bad, however the full wine list offered good value in the small selection. (settled on the Chianti from Felsina). Pizzas were delicious (funghi and spicy salami). Salads were 50/50 with the marinated artichoke kinda bland and boring and the bib/beet beautiful and bright. Espresso was well done. Server was perfect mix of formal and familiar. Definitely will return.
We really enjoyed our meal at Mercato. We had the antipasto and burrata for appetizers. Both were delicious and had plenty for 3 people to share. We ordered personal size pizzas, and the portion size was good. The pizzas are thin crust and minimal toppings. Quality of the pizzas was very good. We also ordered dessert and split the torta, which was a chocolate chip cookie sandwich. Cookies were really good and the size was perfect for 3 people to share. The wine list is very small, but has a mix of Italian and local wines. The restaurant itself is small. It makes it a little loud, but it wasn't so loud that we couldn't have a conversation. I would definitely return to this restaurant.
