Opened in September 2009, the Mekân Café and Restaurant is a diverse new addition to the south east London dining scene. Located in Catford on the Bromley Road, this modern Turkish/Mediterranean dining room has a sleek, comfortable interior designed for relaxed, sociable meals, and you can choose to eat in the ground floor bar and restaurant, the al fresco terrace in summertime, or the downstairs dining area which is ideal for parties. There is live music here every Fri-Sat night, and the menu at Mekân has both Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern twists. We love the traditional lamb moussaka with aubergines, potatoes and cheese sauce; and the deep-fried mussels in a white wine, dill, saffron and thyme sauce.

    Had just opened when we arrived, service was good, waiter was friendly even for his first day and manager gave us a free dessert which was a nice gesture. Very sweet it was and I will be returning.

    We had an impromptu family outing on a sunday and decided to pop into the Mekan on the way to dropping off my father who lives nearby. the staff were friendly and welcoming. the food was cooked to perfection and everyone in our group of 5 (age range 16 to 87) had a great time. we had two courses and drinks including wine and the bill came to around £80 which we thought was great value. have certainly put this place in my little book of places to revisit

    Really nice restaurant. Had a party of 14 everyone was satisfied with their meal..great value. The rice I found was a bit dry.

    This is a gem of a restaurant. The food and service are both exceptional, the mixture of flavours is both exciting and interesting, but also complementary and so we left feeling nourished. The chefs clearly enjoy their work (they are visible) and put care and attention into each meal and we all appreciated that greatly. I personally found the ambiance noisy and crowded, but that was clearly not true of other customers so don't let that put you off. Make sure you book, it is deservedly popular.

    A little gem. The best mediterranean food we have tried outside the mediterranean. And great value too. Will be coming back.

    We had a lovely lazy Sunday meal here. Booked last minute as wanted somewhere local. We couldn't have had a nicer meal for the price. Great Turkish food in contemporary surroundings. Even though there was a huge party in celebrating an 18th and a 60th going on downstairs, the staff where attentive and the food thoroughly tasty. I have taken the kids here before too and had great service. Give it a go.

    We're new to the area and went here on a Thursday evening recently. It wasn't very busy but the service was good and the food was great. I'm vegetarian and thought there was a good choice. Good value - 2 courses for 2 plus a bottle of wine for £45. Definitely recommend this place.
