My picky eater brother looked at the menu prior to arriving. He saw that Caesar salads were available with every meal so he figured the chef could make an entree size salad as his main course. He was also hoping for the truffle fries which are on the lunch menu. Waitress unwilling to make accommodations. She advised they couldn’t make a Caesar salad for him. So all of us picked Caesar salad as our side so my brother could eat what he wanted. Food was fine. Not as good as I was expecting based on most of the reviews. Calamari bland but the gnudi was unique and enjoyable. The cauliflower sure gratin was fabulous. Monkfish was not as good as I was hoping because the piece of fish was tough. Loved the olive taoanade that went with it. Overall restaurant is good but service is lacking.
We previously only enjoyed breakfast here. We heard about the new chef and gave it a try for dinner. We had an outstanding meal all around. We shared the Ricotta Gnudi appetizer; it was heavenly! I had the fettuccine with roasted cauliflower & my husband had the monkfish with green lentils. All very well prepared & delicious! Our server, Rebecca, was delightful and we enjoyed a very pleasant evening in a casual & quiet atmosphere! Can’t wait to return.
I had read glowing reviews and restaurant did not disappoint. Met friends and loved the ricotta gnudi and crab cakes but the risotto balls stole the show (I could have drank the tomato sauce!). Entrees of pork chop, steak, monk fish and grouper were all outstanding. Our server, Danielle was extraordinary in the true sense of the word, going the extra mile and not making us feel guilty for taking our time to relish all of our delectables. Creme Brûlée was a perfect ending to a wonderful culinary experience!
Special bread, dip,entre....all were great. I would go back again.
Fantastic, all around! It was too hot to sit outside, so we opted for inside. Would be nice if they did a little more renovations to the booths or tables, but that is my only suggestion.
food is always great....service is wonderful....we always enjoy it.
(the reserved booth that we had on this past Friday ....was a little tight for the four of us ??
otherwise, a great night out....thanks,

This was our third visit to McGregor Café and we were not disappointed. Food choices and preparation were outstanding. All the items from the pate appetizer to the delicately cooked gnocchi and perfectly spiced étouffée were done perfectly. Very enjoyable atmosphere outside. Live entertainment on Saturday nights also recommended. Minor hitch when our waitress forgot a second round of wine. Also recommend their Sunday breakfast which is also very good, lots of wonderful choices including quiche specials.
Great menu & so cozy! Food was really good! My husband was squeezed into a smaller booth & we should have tried to move, other than that, it was very enjoyable.
Celebrating birthday and the birthday boy's dessert was free! Nice surprise.
A delightful evening. Unfortunately it rained so we had to eat inside. Food was creative and good. Service was pleasant.
We had another great Friday night dinner at McGregor Cafe. Sat outside so we could listen to the singer/guitar player. Music was good; fun to have this local talent and great restaurant right in our backyard. The new cajun chef has really gotten the customers excited; menu is headlining cajun/italien entrees that are excellent. They even have added some really good wines. The place is hustling now; great to see the restaurant doing so well.
First time eating dinner at McGregor Cafe but won't be our last. Have eaten lunch there se real times before and enjoyed that too. Met our waitress Jessica the night before during an Uber ride and she is the one who suggested we give it a try for dinner. She said we should definitely try the shrimp etouffee, because the chef is from New Orleans and he new what he was doing. My girlfriend is from there also so the bar was set very high and she was very sceptical. It did not disappoint, it was great! Thank you Jessica for the great suggestions and great service!
This is a cozy restaurant. We met friends there, off season, on a weekday, so it was quiet and not crowded. It used to be a house, so inside, there was minimal ambiance. We should have eaten outside, because the weather was perfect, but it may have been a bit noisier, (hardly anyone was inside) and we wanted to chat. I had the teriyaki salmon, which could have been great, because the teriyaki sesame seed glaze was delicious, but the salmon was over cooked, and chewy. My husband and our friend had the pork chops, and they said they were really great. Our friend's wife had the Grouper and she loved it. The service was really good. I'd go there again, but also off season, because it's small, I bet it's really crowded from Jan to April. Definitely make a reservation.
Food was heavily salted. I had shrimp and grits. My husband had filet special of the day evening. His mashed potatoes were too salty to eat. Creamed spinach was very salty and had an intense nutmeg flavor.
We were underwhelmed with dinner. We have eaten there before for breakfast/lunch and were pleased.
It was my sister's birthday. The staff was excellent and the food was just as perfect. The evening was enjoyed by all.
I was not expecting much (first visit) so I was surprised by the McGregor Cafe. The food was very well prepared, the serving sizes were not gargantuan but were certainly ample (do not read skimpy into this because they were not), and the service was friendly and efficient. I will have no hesitation to return. We were there on a rainy evening but there is ample outside seating and on Saturday nights (when no rain) there is live music outside. My wife and I already decided to frequent this restaurant.
I’ve been to your restaurant many times for breakfast and lunch but this was my first time for dinner. Everything was great. The service, the food, the weather… Thank you so much!
Great dinner with good friends. Loved the specials and the 2/1 Happy Hour. Great service and great food.
Cafe ambience is perfect. Outside quiet music provided by two guitarists, violinists, singers. Bread and salads were just fine. Main courses, another story. Fish was smelly and bad tasting. Grilled eggplant parm was uncooked with dry pasta thrown on plate. Both meals were not edible. We were asked if we wanted the uneaten food boxed. Second but last visit to restaurant.
Found the food to be very salty. I’ve been there twice now and had the same problem both times.
The portions are huge! I ordered meatloaf and was instantly “full” when I saw my plate. Way too much food.
The Asparagus was undercooked. Couldn’t chew it.
Why would I go back??
A very pleasant experience. Food was very good. Service was outstanding. The price food a bottle of wine us very reasonable and selection us nice.
The four of us had a very enjoyable early evening meal. The food was plentiful and tasty. There was a nice light music duo playing outside on the patio area which sits under a large shade tree. The dinner was reasonably priced with a nice wine list. The calamari was HUGE, never saw one this large and very crispy and good. We all enjoyed all of the food. We will definitely be returning soon. The atmosphere is excellent and there were no bugs as we talked and ate outside. We all think it is a gem!
The service was excellent. The filet was perfectly seared and tender! One of the best I have eaten!
We had a great meal. Freshly prepared and delicious pastas, arancini and ricotta appetizer! Staff was attentive and outdoor tables were wonderful.
What a nice setting outdoor setting under a fabulous tree, the patio is a good size not too big with umbrellas what not to like. The food choices are great and everything we had was great. Took a peek inside with booths and tables modest size. Staff attentive parking on site. Don’t forget to share a piece of key lime yum yum!
Have already made another reservation. As a permanent resident,I find the cafe ideal to bring seasonal friends for a unique dining experience..
Thought food was very overpriced for what we were served. Prime Rib special was $29 and was more than 1/2 of it was fat and rest was very chewy. 4 scallops for $28 that were rubbery. Won't be going back!
Fantastic home made pastas, and authentic New Orleans dishes.
Excellent food and service. Each course was beautifully presented and delicious. Vegan Loaded Potato soup was a winner. The Arugula salad wad perfect. Entrees Shrimp and Grits and Strip Steak were perfect. Topped off with the Bread Pudding dessert!!! Will be back soon.
The food and service was great, just wished you stayed open longer on the weekends later than 9:00
Great server! Wine prices were surprisingly low. Food prices a bit higher, but worth it for the fresh ingredients and creativity. Will definitely return!
Food was excellent. Indoor dining area was very noisy. We got our appetizer and salads right away. Waited a very very long time to get our entree. Food presentation, quality, quantity and flavors were great.
The food was okay, and our waitress was friendly, but it took over an hour for them to serve our entrees. We had a number of other disappointments - meat not cooked to order; no ac on an 80+ degree evening; slow service - that compounded to make this an underwhelming experience. For the price of the meal, I expected better.
First time here and will go back when visiting area again. Scallops great, service good and had a nice jazz singer/musician on Sat night. Good value and definitely has neighborhood, local restaurant vibe.
Our first time in Ft Myers and we stumbled on this wonderful neighborhood restaurant. The weather was perfect for using the out door dinning. The live musician was a provided the perfect ambiance. The service was impeccable and food was great. I had the scallops and Betty had the grouper. Both were well presented and “off the charts” delicious. Used Lyft to get there from the hotel. Will definitely dine there on our next trip to Ft Myers.
We took our daughter to McGregor Cafe for her birthday. We had never been there ourselves and after reading the reviews we thought it would be a perfect spot. It was great! Food ambiance and service. I would certainly recommend this restaurant. We ate outside and the weather was great! Certainly will be one we’ll add to our list.
Thoroughly enjoyable evening. Food was delicious, loved the outdoor dining, friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Food very good Love the Ambiance and our waitress was wonderful !!
Valentine Day Dinner
We go to McGregor Cafe regularly but typically for breakfast or lunch. We love the new chef and evening menu. We have started going for dinner and what a great find. This is truly a gem of a restaurant with cozy outdoor seating, great evening lighting, and the food is amazing. Rack of lamb was delicious on Valentine's day. They have a great seasonal tomato mozzarella salad served warm, with roasted garlic you can spread on bread like butter. Their fried chicken special is great too. Can't wait until the next time.
