McGregor Cafe Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I had a date night and decided to check out the McGregor Café. We have been here many times for breakfast but not for dinner. We read a recent article about the new chef and decided to give it a try. There were many appealing options but I had been yearning for chicken parmigiana and it did not disappoint, even though it is not an Italian restaurant. It was a nice sized serving with delicious, perfectly cooked spaghetti to go along with it. My wife had the blackened chicken with linguini alfredo and it too was delicious. We started off with the dinner salads which were made with a variety of fresh agreements including chunks of orange. The balsamic and blue cheese dressings were both excellent. The singer played at a nice level that was enjoyable. We ate outdoors and there weren't many people present when we arrived at 530 but it the outside was full when we left. While the noise level increased as more people arrived, we were still able to have pleasant conversation without raising our voices. Our server, Erica, was great. Attentive and a great attitude! It was a very pleasant night.
Overall, the McGregor Cafe was basically a roadside cafe with a better-than-average menu. The outside patio is well appointed and could be a pleasant area to have a meal except that traffic noise can be a distraction during conversations with fellow diners. The pasta dinner portions were generous but the scallop dinner came up a bit short with only 4 scallops per serving. Unfortunately, the main course arrived tepid. Although the serving staff were friendly, the average quality of the meals served combined with the vehicle traffic just a few yards away left us feeling disappointed and not likely to return.
I don't know why this place has such good reviews. We were the only customers . There is no ambiance. The salads and bread were very good. The entrees not so much. My husband had the special which was chicken caprese. It was nothing but a chicken patty with a piece of mozzarella on top and a slice of tomato. A patty?
I had pasta primavera.... a pile of overlooked, tasteless, mushy squash, onions and carrots over pasta. In fact, it was the same vegetables as on my husband's special.
No thank you.
We've always wanted to eat here, so we finally made our first dinner reservation. Driving by, it always looked quaint and inviting . We were not disappointed. A friendly greeting and we were seated right away. Our waitress, Sherry, was the best! Our thanks to her for wonderful service. The food was quite tasty and generous servings. I had to take half of my lasagna home with me, because of the appetizer and fresh salad before hand.
Thank you for everything! We will definitely return for our next great experience!
We have been coming here for years, for both dinner and Sunday brunch. The staff is friendly & courteous. The food is served quickly and hot. Their specials are very tasty and vary every couple days. We have brought out of town guests to this gem a couple times this spring and each time they said they wished there was a place like this at home.
I'm really not sure if I would return to this restaurant. It was our very first time there. We chose to sit outside because it was a gorgeous evening but unfortunately the bugs decided to join us and attack our food. My meal was quite oily. I ordered the scallops and pesto linguini. I may give it another chance because our server was really good and accommodating but only time will tell.
With a choice of outdoor dining under the trees or a cozy booth or table, McGregor Cafe is a great alternative to larger, noisier venues. Though one of our party arrived late, waits coordinated her order and ours--which were already in--and everything arrived together. House caesar salad was fresh and fabulous and the lasagna was light--I know that sounds impossible--and tasty. The other diners had the seared tuna appetizer as their main course and were pleased with the presentation and flavors. The wasabi cleansed their palates before the gigantic slice of key lime pie. Tip: order one and split it two or three ways.
While in town we managed a
reservation on Val day night @ 7:15.
Arrived , was seated indoors, instead of requested outdoor....Not a big deal & they had a full crowd apparently all night.
Our server was pleasant & the staff was hustling understandably. Our server was a tad on the slow side, but very pleasant.
The Food (short braised & Chicken Parm) were served fresh, hot & had some taste but could have had a little "more taste." I'd go again when in the area for a good, comfort type food meal wanted in a nice neighborhood setting.
I made a reservation at 7pm. We waited 15 minutes while people who arrived after us were seated right away. I asked to be seated, and the hostess seated us, appearing to forget about us. Once seated, the server brought us drinks and took our order right away. Soup or salad came with the meal. We sat for an hour and a half and the salad/soup never came. Our entrees came out at 8:38pm. They were delicious. I told the server that we never received our salad/soup and requested they be deducted from the bill. She told me they were priced with the meals and brought me a Caesar salad in a container to take home. After over 2 hours, I received the bill with no discount.
This was our first time eating at McGregor Cafe. It was Valentine's Day and we chose to eat outside which we enjoyed. Our server came almost immediately to our table, took our drink orders and promptly returned at which time we gave her our pasta orders. Our salads and bread were served in a timely manner and that's where the service ended. We sat for an hour or more before our meals were served at which time nobody stopped by our table to check on us or to ask if we needed anything. Our server and the hostess walked around our table several times and treated us as if we were invisible. Our meals were very good but again we sat after eating for a long time until finally I made eye contact with our server. I gave her our dessert order and not once were we asked if we needed anything else to drink or even coffee. Appropriately, that very poor service was reflected in the tip!
