My boyfriend and I went here for restaurant week. We both loved the menu options, it is what brought us to go there for restaurant week. The portions were generous and the food was amazing. We got four courses for $35.00 per person. Each course was better than the previous course. You must try them for the next restaurant week! Unique experience of the whole menu is that they incorporate chocolate or cocoa to EVERYTHING!!!
We visited Max Brenner's for Philly's Restaurant week on Sunday. Terrific food. My adult kids each ordered either a shake or a chocolate martini and they loved them. The strawberry crepe dessert was also heavenly, according to the kids. The main dishes were pretty large and delicious. I would recommend this place. The service was REALLY slow. Our server disappeared for about 10-15 minutes and it was a little frustrating. I think she messed up our order and did not admit to it. Restaurant week issues I think. Definitely go there and expect better service..
Went during restaurant week and the wait was less than 10 minutes. The service was great even with the place being packed. The dessert is wonderful. We will be returning for dessert sometime soon.
Atmosphere: the tables are very close together.. I felt like I was eating dinner with strangers. Food: I’d go there for the chocolate cocktails and desserts again. The regular food was nothing to write home about, but the sweets are fantastic!
Max Brenner is a fun energetic place that serves comfort food with grownup options. Their deserts and hot chocolate is to die for. Fun bowls for salads and huggable mugs for hot chocolate are just some of the great dishes that hold yummy meals. It’s a bit noisy during peak hours and some of the servers need to learn to speak up against the sound but they are all very friendly and helpful.
Downside: there are only two toilets and the line can get long.
Went here for my son's 18th birthday. He's a chocoholic and loves a good burger. Service was good. Food was good. Its just a little tight. A lot of tables in a small area. Overall it was a good time. My son enjoyed it.
We went for lunch before a matinee at the Academy of Arts. It was crowded but not completely full, yet the service was relatively slow. Our lunches were tasty but all of them came out tepidly warm, not hot. The desserts were awesome -- The "Candy Bar in a Jar" and "Baked Cookie Dream" were decadent and more than enough for 4 people to split, possibly enough for 6-8 as an after-meal dessert. My recommendation is to get to Max Brenner if you want a decadent dessert but skip it for a meal. 5 stars for dessert and 3 stars for lunch so I am giving them 4 stars as an average.
All the rave this place has, I was pretty disappointed. It was restaurant week, so we figured we'd give it a try. I've never been to a restaurant and felt so rushed while trying to eat.. mind you, restaurant week is 4 courses. We hadn't been even close to finishing a course without the next one being brought out to us; not to mention the tables were very small, we didn't have room for more than one course at a time. Multiple occasions they brought us the wrong food. Portions were small. Thought the food was going to be top notch, it wasn't that great. If I were to ever come back, it would strictly be for the dessert. Dessert was amazing and what kept me from going lower with my rating. We are big foodies and were really excited for this place, we wish we weren't so disappointed.
Food was tasty and they served us quickly before our play. Purely comfort food on the menu! We went there with our teenage kids and they liked it. Super convenient to the Academy of Music.
First time my husband and I had been there, the service and food was great. Can’t wait to go back!
