Max Brenner - Philadelphia
A worldwide phenomenon, Max Brenner, Chocolate by the Bald Man, has spread its unique culture with it's iconic dessert and decadent savory menu in United States with locations in New York City, Philadelphia, and Boston.
Food was delish, hot and came out quick. Definitely the best hot cocoa I've had at a restaurant. Our waitress, Gabi, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. She gave us recommendations and made us aware of things that were clearly asked by many guests. Hands down, would return.
Chicken caprese sandwhich was not good. Couldn’t taste anything but the pesto.
Loved the Chocolate Martini!
Good salad! Fabulous waitress!
Max Brenner is one of our favorite restaurant week places. Service is always extremely courteous. The room can sometimes be a little noisy. The menu obviously exists for the desserts, and they are innovative and never disappoint. Portions are generous, so much so that we generally pack boxes so we know we can actually get to the dessert. The main dishes are very good but not elite, but as noted, that's not why you're going there.
The food was good. However not impressed with the service. The waiters and waitresses were very kind and accommodating but we waited a bit long for our food. None of it came out at the same time. But that is really the only negative from our experience.
The waiters and staff was wonderful, but they were short staffed the day I visited. The food took longer than I expected so it took away from the feel. This was my first time visiting.
I think the chocolate was ok. It was not really an experience...just a regular restaurant like applebees or cheesecake factory
Fantastic all around.
It was a good first experience even though my burger was burnt to a crisp. Dessert was amazing. More of a dessert place then a regular dining
Horrible service got our food before our drinks and utensils waited about 5 min to get a fork after asking the waiter witch was about 5 min after I got my food!
A very fun place to have a meal - we were there for brunch but I would like to go back for dinner/dessert! The manager was super nice to us and our server was wonderful.
Staff was pleasant and restaurant was clean
I keep coming back! Desserts are delicious ... chocolate is premium quality! Our waitress was sup sweet, informative and so helpful!
We enjoyed our visit here recently. Our server was great and made recommendations. The margaritas and kids meals were only so so but the salmon entree and beet salad were very good! Of course the main reason we came was for the fondue and it was very nice. Only drawback was it didn’t heat up very well and was room temp when dipping treats in. Not sure we’d return but glad we tried it out.
Outdated. Food was overpriced and sloppily put together (got the BALT and literally had a whole half of avocado on each half of sandwich not even cut up so the sandwich fell apart any time I tried to take a bite). Prices were high for the quality of the food. The fondu was way overpriced - baked goods for dipping were clearly not homemade (or prepped too far in advance) bc they were ice cold from the fridge, stale, and tasted like cafeteria premade goods. Service took a while and multiple tray drops happened while we were there bc staff were running around a lot. Also the seating area was SUPER dirty - like food splattered on separating walls, tables chipped, layers of dust visible on decor on shelves. It felt gross and in need of a modern makeover.
Just ran in for a hot chocolate after the theatre. Had made a reservation so was seated immediately. Our waitress was lovely. We had only ordered hot chocolate. My husband’s was great but I had to send mine back because it hadn’t been hot enough to melt the marshmallows. They obviously just nuked it in the microwave because she brought it back right away with my lipstick still on the rim. It was only ok.
Have been there many times and we usually love it there.
Went for restaurant week, this was my first time going.. waitress was great and food came out qucik for the first 2 courses but the entrees took forever! At least 20 minutes, then the salad came out without the salmon so my friend had to wait longer.. overall the mac and cheese and desserts were great and it was a nice time out.
We had a great time here during restaurant week. We ordered from the $35 special menu and had few add-ons too. Like the salted caramel milkshake with vanilla vodka! Yum! The Mrs. had the macaroni and cheese entree and I had the Brenner burger. Hold on, OUR WAITRESS BRITTANY WAS THE BEST!!!
Ok back to the food and atmosphere.
The food was really good and the place was really cozy. I mean really cozy, like tight cozy. The tables were a bit too small for my liking, but that doesn't take a away from the fun we had. They constantly swing pass and grab the dishes or whatever that's no longer being utilized. Cool. Overall we enjoyed ourselves!
Food wasn’t good at all, strictly get desserts. Very loud and we were sat next to the door in a table that was way too small.
I’ve been a few times before and food was good. Was very disappointed this visit. While the service was good our food was cold. Not room temp but literally cold. We ate it anyway since it took so long to be served. I was so disappointed...I brought family who was from out of town thinking it would be a great experience. Not sure I’ll go back.
Let me start by saying the service was excellent and the restaurant week lunch special menu was good. The wings tasted wonderful, but they were huge and I don’t really like overly large wings. The spiced blue cheese saucer that accompanied the wings was an interesting twist and I liked it a lot! My flatbread was cold, but tasty. And the create your own ice cream experience was the most delightful part.
Food was decent. Not bad at all. Would recommend to a friend
I dined here for restaurant week with my family. I mainly visited the establishment because I wanted to take my children. We ended up ordering off the traditional menu rather than the restaurant week menu. While the food had great flavor the restaurant itself just wasn’t what I was expecting. The waiter responded in one syllable words with every question “yes” “no” and the food choices were just ok. I would return ONLY if I’m in the mood for an outrageous priced yet delicious dessert.
The restaurant is a nice location to dine at. Being as though it was restaurant week I can understand why the service may have been rushed. We ordered our lunch and fairly quickly our first course came to our table. Delicious! We ordered the BBQ wings. Our second course (waffle cheesesteak) came out soon after which looks delicious and tasted great as well. Maybe 1 min after we were served our second course, they brought out our ice cream for dessert. We hadn’t even taken a bite of the main meal and we had our dessert on the table as well. This is when the pace sped up fairly quickly. We felt like they wanted us to leave as soon as possible. An attendant came and plopped a candle on our table and we could see they were trying to turn the location over for dinner time. We felt rushed to eat our meal because our dessert was there melting. Granted it was delicious it just all felt rushed. Shortly after we were given our meals our server came and dropped the check. Despite feelings rushed the food was great and the location was nice. I’m assuming the special promotion caused it to get pretty crowded and everyone running to do a lot all at once.
I wasn’t impressed at all. I booked this for my daughters birthday. It took forever to get everything. I had to ask for silverware and napkins. They didn’t come to take our empty dishes away. They would just place the need serving of food halfway on what was on the table. The tables are already very small. Didn’t enjoy it at all sadly!
Celebrated my daughter’s birthday & it was lovely!
Desserts were great but food choice was minimal and not that great of choices. Not worth the drive over to Philly if you are not from the city.
The good- food we ordered was all good and delivered in a timely matter. A little expensive, a $15 entree salad should include a protein, so adding chicken makes it closer to $20... which in my opinion, is a lot for what it is. Disappointed, we tried to order the churro fondue, but they couldn’t do, according to server, they couldn’t make the churros with out the piece that makes them.
The bad- loud, and very tight seating. A party of 3, at a small round table. You feel like you are dining with the next table as well.
The worst of it is the bathroom situation. There are TWO for the entire restaurant. And I don’t mean a woman’s and a man’s room with multiple stalls each ...A TOTAL of TWO. With a line waiting the whole time. And the bathrooms are disgusting and not well maintained. I didn’t use them this time because I remembered the situation from my first visit here. My husband and son did use this time, and same thing, long line and disgusting. Don’t know how they get away the only having 2 bathrooms.
We had a great time having a family dinner before my son went back to college. The drinks were great! The food was great! Our server was awesome. It does get a little loud but dessert makes it worth it.
We absolutely loved it! The food, drinks, and deserts we very appetizing!
Excellent service. Great meal
My boyfriend and i went around lunch time to get the Classic European fondue with a crepe and waffle on the side. The chocolate is amazing and every dessert as well. I got the frozen/cold version of the hot chocolate and it was delicious. The food is worth the value as I do not find the place expensive at all. Server was nice and attentive.
If I must point out something then the fruit wasn't that sweet, but taking the season into account, then it's not worth the complain.
Wonderful brunch experience with our visiting granddaughter. Our 10 year old loved the chocolate displays around the room. The brunch food was very good, poached eggs perfectly cooked on waffles, nice touch. I wish there had been a veggie sausage alternative, small point. The lazy breakfast had a chocolate sauce garnish which we all loved! The desserts were really pricy after a brunch, but we are glad we shared. Our server recommended something fabulous that had cookie, ice cream, chocolate.
The meal was expensive, to be sure, but we got a relaxed, quality experience with our granddaughter. A great time, very good food, great atmosphere. I was favorably impressed and will do this again.
It was a very tight seating in a loud room. Food was mediocre. The deserts and desert cocktails looked good but didn't have a chance to try them. Would maybe recommend for drinks and desert instead of dinner.
Food was very good but the ambiance left a lot to be desired. It felt as if we were in some random coffee shop, not a fun Philly restaurant. I felt that the Max Brenner experience is totally overrated.
Terrific food and service
Just wish the dishes would be clean
Been there several times, mainly for dessert. Desserts are very good. Service was good, can be a bit tight in there during busy times. My only gripe is the bathroom situation. Every time I have been there, the bathrooms are disgusting. Garbage is overflowing, trash on the floor and on some occasions, no toilet paper. They need to have the bathrooms checked more often.
New Year’s Eve dessert date. I’ve only been once before. First time I went it was because I heard so much hype, when I went I had the worst Belgian waffle ever. Stale and room temp. Figured I’d give it a second chance and I promise there will be no third chance. What an embarrassing decision I made taking my date here.
