The food is good, but the service is so terrible that it's not worth it. I made at 6:45 reservation for a party of three. When we got there, we were seated quickly, but at a table that was really better suited for a party of one or two. The table had a candle, salt/pepper canister, and menus on it already, so there was no room for our plates or silverware.
We were not greeted by our server for about 15 minutes. Our server never brought out plates or silverware - we had to ask a food runner to get those items for us. Our drinks came about 5-10 minutes after our appetizer came out.
Our dinners followed quickly after the appetizer, but our server never checked back to see how our food was or if we needed anything else.
We ordered dessert and, again, our server didn't bring us silverware or plates for the fondue. We had to ask a different food runner for this.
Because our table was so small, we ended up putting the candle, salt/pepper, and menus on the floor. I wish we had demanded a larger table, but the restaurant was crowded and we wanted to be seated. I really wouldn't recommend going to Max Brenner's in Philadelphia until the service improves and they are more accommodating to their patrons.
If you're looking for a fun spot to take the family (kids and all) Max Brenner might be for you. It's great if you're into the novelty aspect... but I probably wouldn't recommend otherwise. Food is good, but a tad overpriced for what you get. I ordered the steak and it was overcooked... and the cocoa dusted waffle fries didn't taste like cocoa at all. Service was not great - drinks were accidentally switched, the proper utensils didn't come out with the meals, water was re-filled maybe once, etc. I ended up having to flag someone else down, because our server seemed more preoccupied with the larger table seated next to us.
Hot chocolate was delicious though! But if you're going for the food, Cheesecake Factory across the street is way better IMO.
I loved it !!!!! Our waitress was great and our food was even better !!! The desserts are fun and they have a wide variety!! It may be chocolate themed, but you don’t have to be a complete chocolate lover to still enjoy it !! I would definitely recommend this spot to everyone !!!!
Love the desserts! Lots of different options. The chocolate fondues are especially good.
We had a great time and the kids loved having dessert for dinner! The Italian thick hot chocolate was unbelievable!
It was just okay. Nothing to write home about. Service was less than attentive. I saw my drink sitting on the bar for nearly 10 minutes and I had to wave down our waitress to get it. Two other guests' water glasses, their only drink, was empty for too long. Waitress never came to ask if our food was okay. Forgot my husband's drink and we had to ask for that as well. The menus were sticky and gross and needed a good wipe-down. It was only our second time there, having gone several years ago. I remembered it being better. We will not be returning.
This was my second visit to Max Brenner. The first time was in NYC. We went as a last minute Mother's Day choice for dinner and dessert. (Not my first choice by far for Mother's Day but you don't need to here the story behind the decision.) ANYWAY, the food was the same quality as in NYC and
the service was equally as slow. What truly bothered me was that the bathrooms were filthy! Mother's Day or not or perhaps especially because it was Mother's Day, someone should've been attending to them. Trash on the floor. Dirty everything. The dining area floor also wasn't what I consider to be clean. I know it's not a fine dining establishment but I'm in no rush to return.
Love Max Brenner. This is my 3rd time there. The food is great and the environment is fun! Save room for dessert! It is my go to for celebrating special occasions with my children or a small group of freinds!
The food was so so but the drinks and dessert well worth it.
Very noisy and very slow service! Food was good though.
Had a wonderful meal, nothing fancy, but the desserts were, of course, amazing! Unfortunately, we probably should have gone just for dessert and just eaten a late lunch. Everyone was too tired to eat a big dessert and there wasn’t anything to just nibble on. I had a hot chocolate, which was fabulous, but it would have been nice to have some cookies, biscotti, or something just small to go with it. But, that’s the only thing i have to complain about! Everything was just too good and too big!!
The restaurant was pretty empty. The hostess at us at a table where there was a chair on the end and every time someone walked past the person on the end would get hit. The hostess had no problem moving us because there was 6 or more large table open which remained open the rest of the night. Our server was nice. She served our milkshakes without napkins or any utensils. She brought our apps with dinner. We could not find her the entire meal. The only redeeming experience was dessert. The restaurant was dirty looking. The bathrooms were dirty. And from where we were sitting you could see into their kitchen and it was not attractive looking or clean looking.
Service was very good. The food however...not great. Definitely over priced for the value. Our sandwiches were just ok. Dessert not even close to what we were expecting for a restaurant that boasts chocolate. They were subpar and over priced. Even the kids meals are super expensive and they don't include a drink or dessert. Just our 4 yr olds meal was $9 (for 2 chicken tenders and waffle fries) then an additional $6 for chocolate milk and $5 for his dessert. $20 total for a kid to eat is ridiculous and his dessert..the syringe of chocolate tasted like they combined icing, milk and water and put it in the syringe. It was not good. Save your money and dine in another restaurant in center city. We definitely will not be patronizing this place again. Disappointing at best.
Dessert never disappoints, but don’t have high expectations for the food. It’s mediocre at best. My daughter wouldn’t even eat the kid’s pizza and after I tasted it, I couldn’t blame her. That being said, the hot chocolate and other desserts are everything you’d hope for.
Food was delicious, and our server was excellent! She accommodated a BDay sparkle candle surprise for a 6-year-old and it was perfect!
Very slow service . Our server was rude. Our app was messed up and my burger was burnt
Won’t be going back
The server was efficient the food was great!! I highly recommend the siratcha buffalo wings and the strawberries & cream waffle
My fiancee took me to Max Brenner's for dessert on my thirty birthday and it was the highlight of my day! We shared an oreo hot chocolate which was perfect on a rainy day. However, this was very rich and could have been our dessert on its own. I had the churros and chocolate which was amazing! My fiancee had a s'mores concoction. It wasn't our favorite but it wasn't bad. I definitely recommend Max Brenner's. I want to go back to try the rest of their menu!
Loved Max Brenner!! My boyfriend and I had these amazing veggie burgers and delicious s’mores desserts. Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking about going!!
It was such a fun experience. I really enjoyed the time in there with my family and the delicious food. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys chocolate.
We visited Max Brenner's for a lunch before going to a 3 pm show at the Kimmel Center.
The burgers are so juicy and good with a great bun. The waffle fries are always crispy and tasty. Make sure you get a taste of the chocolate candy samples on the counter. So yummy!!
Went here with my son on take our kids to work day. The food was great. He favorite part was being able to "paint" the ketchup on his fries.
Food was excellent. Very creative with their menu options. The Burger with Avacado (I dont remember the name) was cooked perfectly and paired perfectly with the waffle fries. The creative chocolate alcoholic beverages were delicious. My only issue was with the chocolate milkshake. It tasted a bit watery but my experience here was amazing. I would definitely come here again.
It was ok, nothing special. I think the draw is the chocolate. I was with a group that likes chocolate but they didn’t find any deserts they wanted to eat. I was a little disappointed with the mac and cheese. It wasn’t very cheesy. Probably, won’t be back.
We enjoyed our first time at Max Brenner's. A fun and kid friendly spot is always appreciated. My son loved his syringe of marinara for his noodles and really enjoyed his milkshake. My burger and shake were delicious. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely eat there again--highly recommend for families and chocolate lovers alike.
Tasty lunch...excellent service!
Max Brenner is a huge hit with my daughter because of the fun and sweet-themed dishes, but the food itself is just average. The server was very accommodating when we asked her to turn down the air conditioning but our eggs were not cooked the way we asked them.
Moderately favorable. Food was pretty good, but wasn't something that would make a point to go out of my way to go back to. Also, nearly everything on the menu had a choco-analogous (just to coin a new word) counterpart. I get it - it's their thing but... too much chocolate is also a thing.
Our waitress Casey was awesome. Food was good. Desert was amazing. Good time.
Little loud and cramped
The portions are large and the kids were happy with their meals. The server asked about any diet restrictions and gave a thorough overview of what would meet those accommodations. Service was quick; we were there less than an hour. And considering how expensive it is to park nearby, quick service was a real plus.
My daughter wanted to go for her birthday and everything was wonderful. I would go back again and try new items on the menu
Waitress forgot items that we ordered and was unapologetic. The table table did not have the proper utensils and we had to get out our seats to try to find some. Service was extremely poor. I do not recommend this restaurant. I got the feeling that they were not interested in our business.
I really wish I could remember my servers name.Be was a young man with dark hair in his early 20's.He interacted with my 8 yr old daughter and even made her smile. He was attentive but not annoying. He was full of menu suggestions and alot of other info.Like suggestion a Dentist for me.The desserts and drinks were amazing and of course he suggested what drink I should try.I hope I can remember his name because I would definitely request him next time!
have been there multiple times and it never disappoints!! great food, great service, great spot!!
Just went for dessert around 8pm. Seemed “kiddy” and very loud. Ordered the pizza (very doughy) and the churros.
Went for breakfast/lunch. Interesting menu which contained biscuits. The concept sounded great, but the biscuits were fairly dried out, leading me to believe these were not freshly made, which was disappointing.
I think the overall idea is much better than its final product.
Food and service were good. Many items use chocolate but there are also many that don’t if you don’t care for it.
