Food is always delihious and different, and the desserts!!!!
Waitress’s was friendly and attentive . Food is always delicious . Espresso milkshake is delightful ! Highly recommend! Chocolate heaven !
Great for birthday celebrations!
We fell in love with Max Brenner about 15 years ago. We’ve gone back several times and each time it’s steady declined. We brunched on 16 Dec and it was the worst yet. Our espresso came out cold(how does that even happen?) More than half our food was cold. When we brought it up to our server, she just shrugged and half heartedly apologized. We probably won’t return to Chocolate by the Bald Man. There are so many other fantastic places to eat in Philly!
Made a reservation at 930pm the day before. Then the day of we were running late and called around 915pm to let them know we were on the way but definitely going to be late for the reservation. Make it there at 950pm to see the whole entrance crowded with people waiting for a table. We thought we would be waiting since we came so late but come to find they held our table and we’re waiting for us to arrive. Had an outstanding waiter who was fast and respectable and answered any questions regarding the menu. Anything you get from the menu will amaze you. Great experience, definitely going back.
Great experience for the young ones who love chocolate.
Food just was not good at all. The deserts were good for the kids.
The interior could use a solid re-fresh but it is well serviced, kids love love love it, and overall it is fun especially for friends/family groups.
Wonderful experience with grandkids after the Nutcracker.
The service was average, very hectic. The food was a step above fast food and way overpriced. Kinda like a tourist trap.. There are way better places in the city to go..
They had chocolate ranch sauce and it was actually good. I can't believe that I'm wrote that, but it was really good. If you enjoy chocolate you really can't go wrong eating there.
Favorite place to visit when I'm in Philly to visit my daughter in college.
Our server was great, but the table we were sat at was cold and a draft was blowing on us. The food selection was ok......not much healthy options.....a few, but not many.
Fun place. Family friendly. Great service. DELICIOUS Chocolate creations!! Good burgers too!
We spent $100 on 3 kids and 1 adult meal. Plus 3 hot chocolates, 1 frozen lemonade and 1 Kids Chocolate dessert to share. The kids mac and cheese was SO dry. The kids pizza, under cooked, soggy on the middle and burnt on the edges. The kids chicken fingers were fine but again, dry. The adult burger had a gross sauce that wasn't on the menu. The hot chocolate and dessert were really good. Should've ONLY ordered desserts. At one point a glass fell over on the table and shattered. 3 children away my table and it took 6 minutes for someone to come over and help. Even though one of the servers saw it happen. I was so disappointed.
It's a real treat to have a chocolate martini . That's why we went. Server was awesome. Food was decent, but not out of this world. 15 dollars for a dessert was too much!
Although the food is a little on the expensive side, it is well worth the price. The food is flavorful and outstanding, especially the salmon. Known for their chocolate, I would highly recommend their desserts, but the fondue serving size is quite large and requires many people to eat. Overall, the restaurant has a nice ambiance and service is outstanding!
Went out for Christmas dinner with kids after the Nutcracker. Food was a giant step down from even bar food. Pricey for what it was. Restaurant was freezing, so we all wore our heavy winter jackets the entire time. My daughter, who loves all types of pizza, got the kids pizza and only took one bite because she didn’t like it. Overall a very poor experience and we will not be going back.
What a disappointment! Walked in to the restaurant with three employees looking at us. The restaurant was somewhat busy on a Sunday evening at 7 P.M. We had reservations but met two different families at the Christmas Village and we all had reservations at the same restaurant and the same time. We asked the Host if we could be seated near each other. This made her head explode, until we got the manager involved. Skip forward to the meal or lack there of. The entree's all came out at different times and one entree never came out. They offered to bring the entree out when the kids were having dessert. The forks were placed at the end of the table. We asked for napkins for the table and the waitress came over with one napkin. Coffee as served and we were told the sugar was down there as she pointed to the other end of the table. When the bill came, she stood in the middle of the tables we were sitting at and said, "Who Gets This". I will never return to this restaurant. Save yourselves and your family, it is too late for us.
It was loud as always but the food was better than last time. And the fondue was amazing! Love the crepes and chocolate martini!!! Highly suggest a visit especially for dessert!
Was our first time here - were looking for somewhere to get Sunday brunch and everything else was booked up so we gave it a try. Did not disappoint. Had the Max Benedict was fabulous! My husband had the French Toast and loved it as well as the dark hot chocolate. Will definitely come here again!!
What could be better than sharing an afternoon with friends while choosing food from a chocolate themed menu?
The decor, as well as our server ,was charming.
We are already planning another outing. My co-workers saw photos of our food on social media and they are already planning outings as well!
Max Brenner hit a home run with us!!!!
Had the Max Benedict for brunch on Sunday...was delicious!! Savory waffles, topped with tomato, spinach, spiced bacon and a perfectly poached egg...and then the hollandaise sauce!!! YUM!! Would definitely come again.
The food was great however the waitress was very rude and had an attitude the bathrooms were DISGUSTING ! The food came out really fast compared to how busy it was.
I enjoyed the food however I checked in for my reservation 10 minutes early, and didn’t get seated until 20 minutes after my scheduled reservation.. The host seating me even asked me if I had checked in (since I had been waiting so long) and I believe this is because the hostess at the counter never checked us in originally. Really annoying.. I also received an email from open table saying that I missed the reservation which was really rude considering that it was the hostess’s fault, as I had arrived way earlier than my reservation. I understand that things get busy so I patiently waited the entire time thinking that it was due to the business, but the hostess just wasn’t paying attention. The food was honestly amazing, the dessert was good, too. The only thing was that the white chocolate wasn’t really thick like melted chocolate it had more of a watery texture. Other than that, great dining experience.
Everything was nice but tables are very close so not room for private conversation. Also with all of the people they NEED more than 2 bathrooms. When there are 8/9 people in line you need to be able to accommodate them.
I take my granddaughters here when we travel to Philly because they love the menu and the experience. However, I think they need to consider enlarging this place because the crowding makes it less enjoyable.... tables are too close together and the wooden chairs are uncomfortable. Also, since we sat near the door we were cold with all the people going in and out all the time.
The food is okay. It was really cold in the restaurant. Beer list was unimpressive. As for wine, you could buy a whole bottle for the price of a glass. And the main attraction, chocolate was nothing special. Overall, underwhelming to say the least.
2 people in the party had salads and we could not eat them because they had too much dressing and our table was for a party of four and we were a party of five and the tables were not level
Great place to brings kids and adults visiting philly. Service was excellent!
I had high expectations...maybe that's why I was disappointed in the experience overall. I took my two pre school aged kids for a Christmas treat. This was our first visit so my kids were so excited. The atmosphere is just meh. I expected it to be a lot more vibrant. We got a horrible table where we had to kind of "share" part of a bench with another table full of ladies. They were annoyed that we were next to them so they wouldnt move and we were smooshed.
Our server was non existent...She barely gave us flatware. We had forks and nothing else. I had to cut my kids food with a fork! She had other people deliver food and then never checked back. On top she had zero personality.
On top of all that this place is definitely not cheap....Mac and cheese 16.00, etc etc...I was pretty satisfied with food quality. But all in all definitely disappointed and would not recommend wasting your time
Adult food was sub par and a simple cocktail not made well at all. However, if you are going for the chocolate experience (ie hot chocolate, chocolate martini) then a great experience. I just would not go for anything beyond that.
I loved it here! Right when you walk in it smells amazing! Holiday season drink was chocolate peppermint martini and that was delicious!
Have been there several times. We enjoy the desserts the most especially the chocolate fondue.
Will definitely return in the near future. The chocolate fondue was amazing!!
Fun place to meet friend. Good chocolate martini but $$
Amazing! Brought my teenagers after going to Macy’s for their holiday light show. My teens were blown away. It was fun to see them put down their phones and enjoy. Service was amazing. She was joyful and excited for experience. My mother in law has been talking about it ever since we went. A great time. Thx.
Waffle cheesesteak was really good and the waffle had a savory taste which worked well with the cheese blend and steak. The cookie pieces in the European Fondue were amazing too.
Extremely cramped seating
Server was Amazing
Soooo. Good. Bring your sweet tooth and save room for dessert.
