It was here in Chinatown that the Matchbox story began. This narrow, rectangular building was three stories tall, fifteen feet wide, and looked like a matchbox. It stood vacant for so long, a tree grew inside of it, like kindling waiting to start a new fire.

Walk past the torch that lights our front door and smell the hot, crackling fire from two brick ovens. Have a seat inside, where we built the reclaimed timber and steel finishes with our own hands, or relax in the sunny atrium that was once an alleyway. Wherever you choose, there’s plenty of space for intimate dinners, large parties and get-togethers.

We’re neighborhood gathering place for fun, upscale casual dining, with local, award-winning beers, broad spectrum wines, and handcrafted signature cocktails you won’t find anywhere else.

Food and atmosphere were great. Service was not the best - was very nice but had to ask for things several times and seemed upset when we corrected our order. We were a large crowd though. Last time I was there I had excellent service so I think it was a one off situation.

Service was OK but the good was poor quality. Children's meal arrived COLD! Yuck cold French fries and almost impossible to get in touch with wait staff.
Would not recommend restaurant.

Great kids platter. Great big booths and drawing materials for kids. Good pizza.

Pizza was very good. Ribs okay. It shouldn't take 15 minutes for a bottle of wine to be brought to the table. Wine finally arrived with our meal, then we had to chug a lug it, so that we could finish the bottle and not feel cheated. Constant apologies from servers to the table beside us too. Not sure for what but shouldn't be necessary if you just take care of the customer.

Apple and pear salad was excellent. Took a while to get the Pizza. We requested extra crispy but pizza bottom was still soft. Regardless, the pizza was good.

We celebrated an early Valentine’s Day and the food was delicious and worth every penny.

We were “ welcomed “ with a “what are you doing here attitude!” We were seated and the waiter finally showed up at our table. He obviously did not want to be there and it shows! We told him what we wanted and he got it wrong. Made a snide remark about what we ordered even though he brought the wrong thing! Noise was loud and music was too loud for people to enjoy a normal conversation. I usually don’t say anything about a restaurant and service but we ate here twice while in DC and both times we got the same waiter and he was the same both times!!!!! Probably won’t go back!!!!

Loved their burgers and there service was great. The hockey game had just ended so there were a lot of people in there but that didn't matter. They still did great

Great Caps pre-game spot. Fun atmosphere, good selection of beers. Came for the pizza and mini burgers, never disappotined!

Jesus T. was the best server we’ve ever had at Matchbox, and we’ve been there so many times the hostesses know us by name. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Seems like the quality of the food has gone down with the menu change for the lunch hour. Hopefully they get some feedback to go back to how it was. Still not a bad lunch spot.

Food wasn’t great; hoping it was just a bad day. Shells in the grab soup; salad was overdressed; bad coffee

Service was great

Lots of booths; so not great for business lunch, but fab for friends
