Marx Bros Cafe
Van's Caesar Salad*
Our version of the Tijuana classic; prepared tableside for two or more
Alaska Sockeye Salmon En Papillote

Macadamia Crusted Halibut
Fresh Alaska halibut baked in a macadamia nut crust with coconut curry, fresh mango chutney and tuxedo rice
This is my #1 top choice in a town with many really good restaurants. They are noted for the Ceaser salad made from scratch at the table and it is phenomenal. But so is the rest of the food. This time we had the King crab stuffed halibut and it was served with thin, tender green beans and spinach that was served with a Vinaigrette dressing. As always, everything was superb and the Halibut was exceptional. Perfectly cooked (and it's really easy to overcook that fish). Even next to top restaurants like Kincaid Grill and Jen's, I have to give the top nod to Marx Bros.
Very nice food and service. A little noisy in the area we sat.
Great Food, service and wine
Marx Brothers Cafe is an excellent place to have a quiet intimate meal. The service, food and ambience are excellent. You are treated as a valued personal client which is rare these days. You cannot go wrong by dining here.
Fabulous time capsule ambience, super nice staff and very good entrees.
Excellent food and great attentive service. Would highly recommend
We were underwhelmed by the experience. Appetizers did not have any flare, tasted bland, presentation was very poor. We had a bisque and eggplant salata. For dinner we split macadamia crusted halibut. Fish was dry, garnish was over cooked, vegetables turned brown and lost all of their flavors and texture. More so, the garnish did not complement the fish. Presentation was also very poor. I was looking forward to this dinner as it has been a few years since my last visit. The restaurant has been the community staple for years, it is unfortunate our experience did not live up to the expectations.
Seating was very tight.
One of the best meals I’ve ever had!
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Our thanks to Van & Jack
The Marx Bros is a wonderful dining experience. It's one of those unique places that you will always walk away saying, "there is no way I could have ever created these dishes at home. It was well worth the expense." Each plate has something satisfying about it. Flavors you wouldn't think about combining, or it's prepared in an unexpected way. Highly recommend. Go be surprised!
Amazing service, outstanding food cooked to perfection.
Great food and service. Favorite spot in Anchorage.
We went to Marx Bros for our last night in Alaska & it was the best meal we had during our 2 week vacation throughout Alaska.
We loved the house special Cesar salad, prepared table side and the macadamia crusted halibut was to die for! Antonio our waiter was wonderful & attentive! We would definitely return.
In addition to the outstanding food, the friendly staff made it a very special dinner. We will definitely return.
Absolutely the best dining experience you can have in Anchorage.
We had a great night for our anniversary.
The food was amazing - portions were good and it tasted great - appetizer to dessert.
The service was the best I've had in Alaska.
We will definitely go again.
My husband and I enjoyed a delicious dinner here. The restaurant is in a small house so the seating is quite quaint. Our meals - salmon and halibut were delicious. The flavors stood out, the fish was cooked perfectly and the vegetables / grains complemented the dish very well. We finished our meal with the berry crisp and enjoyed that too. The flavor of the berries jumped out.
The servers and owners paid attention to detail and were very attentive. The owners were present and made us feel at home. If we lived in Anchorage we would definitely return for future meals.
As always, wonderful food and expert staff.
Most amazing everything. Must try the caesar salad!!
Went for our 48th anniversary and had wonderful meal with great service. When we ordered dessert it came with lighted candles for our celebration and was provided free with management’s compliments! Great evening!
Wow! From the salmon mousse to the table side Caesar to the salmon and halibut to the chocolate mousse…excellent
(Nice wines too!)
I have lived in Alaska for 40 years and have always wanted to try the Marx Brothers, but I never found the occasion. I finally just went with a good friend and the experience was great. The prices were a little on the high side but the quality is on par with the best in the state. I also think that is also due to the economy we find ourselves in. Overall I would highly recommend the Marx Brothers Café!
The service was were good and the environment was very peaceful and pleasant
Fantastic!! The owner came and introduced himself and asked how everything was which was very kind and impressive.
Halibut was overcooked
Jasmine rice was tasteless and too sticky
Berry cobbler, green beans, potatoes and baby bok Choy - all very good as was the Sauv Blanc, sparkling wine and coffee
Our table was halfway in a doorway. My husband had to move his chair every time the Caesar salad cart came into the dining room
What a great find in Anchorage. One of the oldest historical homes. Excellent service and we had an exceptional meal! Highly recommend and we will be back for certain! Great place for special occasions!
Best meal in Alaska after a 2 1/2 week trip. Simply outstanding all round.
Great service, food constantly awesome and creative.
The best place in town to eat. My favorite. Ask for help on the wine. You wont go wrong with Antonio. The crowd is always friendly too. This may not be the best place for introverts.
Amazing food, perfectly prepared with attention given to every detail in a charming dining room with convivial service. Every course, from the gnocchi appetizer to the duck and the rockfish special, to the desserts could not have been better. We really appreciated the attention from everyone on staff, including the owner. It was a special occasion for us and we really felt like special guests. The best meal we had in Alaska!
Good, food well done, crowded place
As always excellent and attentive service. My wife enjoyed the poached salmon and I had the filet. Both were excellent. I had the grav lox appetizer as well as the seafood mousse since they are my favorites. Gave us our favorite table.
This place is still the one of the best places in Anchorage. The food is exquisite, and the service excellent. If you order the Cesar salad, it is made table side, by the owner himself. He truly wants to spend a little time with each guest. It's a place you must experience at least once.
Fabulous Cesar salad. Best rack of lamb I have ever had. Loved it!
