They were very attentive and appreciative since we came in during the Covid-19 crises. But they were very mindful of us.
I was surprised that the food and wine menu was different from what was posted online. Although we found an entree we liked the choice was limited. The small plates were very good but the entree was only so-so. We will likely try someplace else next time.
Once again, we had an excellent experience at Martine. We started with the fried brussels sprouts which is always one of our favorites. It did not disappoint. We followed with the pasta bolognese for me and the tinned mussels for my wife. Both dishes exceeded expectations. The only thing missing for the pasta was some fresh parmesan. Carlos, our server, was outstanding as always. We always request him as he is the perfect example of what a server should be. We ended our experience with the gingerbread, which is consistently outstanding. I have to admit, we were tempted with the panna cotta, but resorted to our standby favorite. We would highly recommend this restaurant, not only for the food but the service and ambience as well.
Attentive service and delicious meal. The ever-changing menu is consistently interesting and well-prepared.
Typical to many other reviews, the food was excellence and the best part of the experience. But the service really needs attention. Everyone is nice, but they don’t have a greeter so the check in is clumsy, the wait staff doesn’t come around often enough to refill water and drink orders. If there was a great manager at this restaurant it would be one of the best on SLC. But the team there acts like they have never worked in a restaurant before. Love the food! The music doesn’t fit the atmosphere either. Hire a consultant or an experienced restaurant manager.
We have dinner here before every show we attend at the Eccles Theater. The small plates rotate fairly often, so there is always something new to choose from. Entrees are very good but the selection is more limited. Wine list is well represented by selections from around the world. Cocktails are generous. Service is very good. Dining room feels not at all like Salt Lake. More like being in San Francisco.
We love Martine’s. I only wish they still had the green beans. I had Mary’s organic chicken and it was tender and delicious. It was served on a slice of perfectly cooked squash. Martine’s has always been one of our favorites.
We love Martine Cafe. Perfect stop before theater.
The meals for each of us were very well prepared and everything tasted great. The wine list is strong and provides good value. A great place to dine prior to a show in the downtown SLC area.
Great food. Waiter was superb
Wonderful meal. The winter green salad was exceptional and we both really enjoyed the Salmon. Martine is one of our favorites downtown. We are never disappointed.
Looking forward to our next visit!
Martine continues to deliver remarkable twists on a solid tapas, entree, and drink menu. The attentiveness and knowledge of the wait staff is second to none. It has a great vibe that suits a business meeting, date-night or night-out with friends. The Blossom and Manhattan are phenomenal for whiskey drinkers. The crispy skin salmon and elk are the best I've had. Keep-up the great experience!
Exceptional and original.
Food is excellent, as it has always been. Unfortunately, the level of service is not at all what it used to be. Plates don't get cleared, professionalism is lacking, not the same knowledge of menu, very little attention to detail from staff. However, everyone is polite. It's just a bit disappointing when service was one of the things that made this restaurant outstanding. I will still go there; the atmosphere is quiet and wonderful and the food is consistently top notch. I feel like Martine is SLC's best kept dining secret.
Excellent food, and superior service. The main issue was tightness with seating in the balcony, but this had more to do with other customers rather than the restaurant.
Exceptional. Wonderful. Really a unique experience. The only downside, if it can be considered a downside is the web-site said they had 2-hr parking validation for city-creek parking, and they didn't. BUT, my goodness the food was. . . ambrosia of the Greek gods.
Had a great night with my boyfriend at Martine's for Valentines Day. The elk was delicious!
Martine is the zenith of the food and beverage scene in Salt Lake City and among the loveliest establishments to take someone special. The quality of ingredients and service is unmatched.
We booked well in advance for a valentines dinner. Upon arrival, we were sat next to a loud party of 5 with 2 kids that were noisy, bouncing on the connecting bench, wandering around near our table and parents who were taking pictures with their flash and speaking loudly the entire time.
The first course came quickly but the subsequent courses were incredibly slow and extremely disappointing for such a ‘specialized menu’. The appetizer round was fairly good, but the next two were far below the value and quality we expected from Martine Cafe. Overall it was not worth trip.
Classy casual upscale restaurant with well-crafted ambience. $50 per person for a prix fixe menu on Valentine's day, which was a great deal given that it was 3 courses and was delicious.
Recommended wine pairing was not on the menu, but would have been nice, however the servers knew the wine selection well and recommended great choices for each entree.
Made reservations in early January for a birthday celebration that falls on Valentine's Day. Martine's has been a family favorite for years, but we were disappointed with a PreFix menu that left out many favorites. The sides were nicely paired with the entrees except for the bowl of clams that unfortunately missing clams. Still love Martine's and will be back, but only if it is a quiet night where the chef is on target, ensuring the dishes that leave the kitchen are prepared and cooked appropriately for any audience.
We had a great lunch on Valentine’s Day. Sean and crew provided excellent service. Many thanks!
Excellent place to meet
Martine has been one of my favorite restaurants in Salt Lake since it opened so I’m sorry to report that my last two visits were disappointing. The menu and food preparation was excellent as always but the service was not. The used dishes were still on our table after we ordered desert and when it arrived. Our water glasses were not refilled even after I drank everyone’s water because the Brussel sprouts were so salty. A spoon for the French Onion soup had to be requested. It didn’t seem to be terribly busy so I’m concluding that the wait staff is not being properly trained or is in short supply.
Food was great, tables are pretty close, sort of loud and service seemed over burdened. Not exactly the quiet romantic setting that I had hoped for but it was still good.
The food was great. Highly recommend the elk. All the dishes were well executed. Even the table bread was fantastic. Good wine list.
The service was alright. The pace of drink refills was slow - our table would have purchased 2-3 more rounds had the server been a little more attentive with beverage levels. Overall, will be coming back.
The temperature of the restaurant was a bit warm so dress in layers. Very clean and spacious lavatories. Parking at city creek east will be easiest (regent street lot closes at 6pm). No valet or validations provided by the restaurant.
My husband and I came upon this gem last year and it has become a favorite spot for us. It has a small but eclectic menu. He enjoys the elk, which speaks volumes because, as a hunter, he usually prepares it himself using recipes that he has gathered over the years. I love the Brussels sprouts and winter salad. The gingerbread dessert is AMAZING and unique— a must order if you go.
Great food. Good location. Free parking at
City Creek mall for first 2 hours.
Waiter was very good! Food was excellent!
We eat at Martine nearly every time that we go to the Eccles. There are rarely any kids there, but they are always fabulous with our children. Steak and Frites were always the go to for my kids and they aren't on the menu any longer, but they made them anyway. My husband had the elk and he couldn't stop raving about it. The goat cheese and pistachio appetizer was amazing! I highly recommend Martine.
We have been going to Martine for years. It was our first date and we went again for our 13th anniversary. The service is always wonderful and Mika was a fantastic server. Thank you for creating many memories.
Bex is the best - I love to go here before the theater and would highly recommend it
First time here at Martine's for dinner. The menu is quite limited but all the choices we made were amazing! The service was exceptional! I'm sure we will come back.
Group of four. Had burgers, chicken , shrimp and salad. It was very good. Love chef Rich and the servers. A
This was my first time here. I've heard a lot of great things. Overall, I was not impressed. The service was slow. The food was good, but not worth the price. The ambiance was okay... I was expecting something more cozy. Again, it wasn't terrible, but I was not impressed. I would definitely eat elsewhere for the price point.
Always outstanding food and service
It's been a while since I've dined at Martine, and I'm wondering why! the food was fabulous and the service was great. It was a good spot to dine at before our play at Eccles Theater. I'll be back!
We had not been to Martine Cafe for several years. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and friendly, attentive service.
We believe the menu is considerably smaller than a few years back. (Could be wrong, but don't think so.) There are not a lot of choices. What they offered, though, was excellent.
I used to love this restaurant. It was super creative and the execution was excellent. Something has changed. The menu is smaller and less interesting. The execution was poor. Martine’s is no longer in the top tier of Salt Lake restaurants. Sad because the downtown brownstone location is as convenient and charming as ever. But there are too many better restaurants near by to bother with this.
