On London’s Vere Street, moments from the infamous shopping mecca of Oxford Street, is Maroush V Lebanese restaurant. The Maroush brand was one of the pioneers of Eastern eating in the capital, the first branch opened by Marouf Abouzaki on the Edgware Road back in 1981. Now, more than 30 years on Mr Abouzaki is the proud owner of several celebrated eateries, each a celebration of Lebanese cuisine and an Eastern feast for the senses. Earning praise from the pickiest of critics, AA Gill among them, Maroush’s signature food is proudly authentic, prepared with the utmost of care using the freshest ingredients. With tables on three floors, Maroush V provides a range of settings; while the mezzanine is quietly intimate, and the main dining floor buzzing and relaxed our pick, the basement, is particularly vibrant from Wednesday to Sunday when live music plays and belly dancing breaks out as you dine on a varied menu of Lebanese mezze and meals washed down with the best of a fine wine list.

Had a terrible experience at this place. Firstly, the restaurant did not have my booking as I had booked through OpenTable. Secondly, I was seated in the worst possible table next to kitchen even though there were other tables available as I decided not to go with the Valentine’s set menu. Thirdly, the most disappointing of all, my wife was served a dish with meat when we had specifically ordered for a vegetarian dish. We had double checked with the waitress while placing the order, but they still messed up the order. My wife had never eaten meat in her life, but took a bite from the meal she got served. That ruined the evening for us. To top it all off, the drinks order was messed up too and we were served the wrong drinks. When they did serve the daiquiri that I had ordered, it was the worst I’ve had in my life. It was nothing but juice + rum served in a glass meant for drinking water. It was a joke! Never returning to this place again.

We were a party of 6 and on making the booking I noted in the conditions that for parties of 8 or more only the set menu at £40 per head was served. We certainly didn't want the set menu but since we were a party of 6 it was clear this did not apply to us. On arrival at the restaurant we were told that we had to have the £40 set menu and that this applied to parties of 6 or more. I explained that on booking it said it only applied to 8 or more but the waiter insisted that I was wrong and then brought the Manager who was very unpleasant and dismissive in her manner. Luckily I had my phone with the email booking and I read out the condition about the set menu only applying to parties of 8 or more. The Manager eventually agreed with me but her attitude left us all feeling very disappointed and wanting to leave as soon as possible after eating. We wanted to relax and enjoy the evening but this was impossible with this issue which dragged on for more than one hour. Wished we had never been as none of us enjoyed the experience after this long dragged out dispute and then very slow service making us feel very unwelcome. Would not recommend this restaurant after this very bad experience.

The Restaurant was very cold, and the service was very slow and not well thought out. The tables were full, but not enough staff to wait on everyone in a reasonable time frame. Also, there was one member of staff who was truly very rude and made the evening unpleasant! Otherwise, fairly decent food and ok entertainment. I won't be coming again however.

Very friendly staff in this tucked away restaurant, close to the hussle and bussle of Oxford Street but not enough to be disturbed by it, helped because you have to go down some steps to access it. The food is delicious, and the staff very attentive. There was promise of some great entertainment later into the evening (Saturday night) but we were not able to stay on for that.

Good food, good atmosphere however we did have to wait 30 mins for someone to bring us the bill, which put a damper on the evening.

Food was great! Ambience was superb! First time experience of lebanese and it was amazing ! Definitely recommended wasnt overly expensive for London either !

Food was great and service was attentive. We had the set menu which was nice. There were quite a few meat fans in our group though so the amount of vegetarian starters was a downside. Perhaps they should offer another set menu option with a bit more meat.

The food was good and varied with many different options for different palates. The waiting staff were good and experienced at telling us how much we would need to order. They were keen to please and even bought complimentary fruits and small cakes for dessert. Would recommend as a nice alternative to a general dinner out. Good location too.
