Very pleasant experience. Our first visit and definitely not our last. Very welcoming decor.
We ordered drinks and started our meal with the “low tide”option. Choice of cod cakes, mussels and/or oysters. We chose to share 8 Beausoleil oysters. Fresh and salty tasting. A mignonette was offered bu we prefer our oysters at naturel.
I chose the burger....tasty and quite enjoyable. My wife had the hangar steak. Prepared medium rare and also enjoyed.
We shared the lemon tart which was the only part of the meal that wasn’t impressive. Crust was thick and the lemon filling not to our liking.
Looking forward to having more from this restaurant.
Service has been excellent each time I have been. The menu is good and simple, local and the kitchen is very aware of vegan and gluten free choices/intolerances. Fantastic place to meet with friends, business colleagues, or a date night.
This is a great spot in our neighborhood...we can walk from our house, and find it to be a cozy, pub-type feel, with great food and dining experience. We have had the same server the last couple of times, and he is friendly, funny, and has a great handle of the food and drink. Always have a good array of local beer, as well as other good craft brewery selections. Nice set up at bar for watching the game, but also great for an intimate dinner, or dinner with a larger group.
I will add that, while our service the last few times was great, this has not always been the case.
This has been a great spot for our local, and look forward to some new, seasonal changes to the menu!!
Two of 5 guests at our table ordered Steak and Frites. It was tasty but couldn't believe the small portion of meat. Expensive for the portion.
We were celebrating a 70th BIRTHDAY and thought this would be a nice place it was fine but will not be returning.
Great meal, nice selection of beer and wine to go with. We will be back
We dined on Valetine's Day, and were very pleased with the food, and the service. It was a prix fix menu, with many items we would not normally order. We were pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
Great Food BUT they changed our reservation from 630pm (confirmed through OPEN table) to 515pm. As a result was beginning of entire evening that felt rushed. No choice but to accept on short notice with Valentines day. Service was unbelievably rushed...service was actually too fast for appetizer and food delivery...never experienced anything like it, pushy. But again food and drinks were fantastic but not enough time to enjoy . Waitress was polite but felt like we were being rushed for next sitting. Very annoying lights flickering all night...dim/bright/dim...constant. Will I be back....hmmmm not sure
Good food, nice atmosphere and good service. Everyone in our party enjoyed the evening.
Great service and food. Very friendly servers. Had a great deal on some wines which we took advantage of.
Nice quiet atmosphere, fast and attentive service, and great creative main courses.
This little restaurant has a quirky Waterloo feel to it. Casual atmosphere and friendly service, in an old building. Its reputation and interest must have something to do with the Whole Earth salad and vegan options on the menu, but we've had some terrific lamb and duck there before too. The patio also is nice. Over the years much has changed in Waterloo and in this restaurant, but it remains a cozy spot worth a visit.
Overall the experience was good. As a vegetarian, I ordered the Moroccan Tagine, which was $15. I felt it was a small portion for the price, but the flavours were good. My friend ordered the Buddha Bowl, which was also $15, and the serving for this dish was much larger and the flavours were great. Service was attentive, and our waiter was very helpful. The restaurant is smaller than the picture makes it out to be, but it was cozy and the dim lighting and rustic feel would make it great for a date. I would go again, but maybe order the Buddha Bowl or another one of their vegetarian/vegan options.
We all enjoyed our food. Surprisingly generous portions with great flavours throughout. It has been a number of years since my last visit and I was happy to see it's still a relevant option for casual dining in uptown Waterloo.
Service was excellent! Very attentive. Food was great - crab dip and Buddha bowl were yummy. Great beer selection. Tables are a comfortable distance apart and music was a good volume and great track selection. Good spot for vegetarian and GF options. "Farmed" corn chips is almost the funniest item I have seen on a menu...
The lighting was too dark preventing reading the menu. The braisded dish was too fatty and with the poor lighting was hard to remove the excees fat on the braised meat. The 2nd pc. of fish wasn't cooked properly
Went there for my b-day.Service was great from the time we walked in the door until we left.Food came in a timely manner was hot and good . we were not rushed to leave.Would highly recommend
We enjoyed ourselves very much. I love the look and feel of this restaurant. The food was good. My only complaint would be my Caesar salad. I was expecting a more traditional salad and I got whole seasoned romaine leaves on my plate. They were tasty but I didn't enjoy cutting them into edible pieces. I found it difficult and ended up having to put huge pieces in my mouth because I couldn't get them cut up right. Other then that we really did enjoy our meal. My friends got the soup of the day and just raved about the flavour.
As soon as we sat down with our family, our server brought our kids something to munch on and crayons and paper to colour with. I was impressed. The service was slow but our server was VERY friendly and accommodating. There were many gluten free options which is so nice because we didn’t feel excluded from the menu. The calamari was delicious as were the chicken wings but the Caesar salad wasn’t special. The kids were happy and we were happy. We’ll be back.
I had the steak and potatoes. Prepare as i wanted it and a great sauce reduction. Very tasty! My wife ordered the special which was pasta, cabbage and oysters in shell. She loved it! A hidden gem along king street and good value for money. A good blend of casual fine dining! We will be back!
Been going to Marbles for almost 40 years. Reviewed menu online before we went this time (has been changing a bit lately) and when we got there it was much more limited than advertised. Food was mediocre. Won't be going back.
Very happy with our visit - thank you for having us!
Did not seem overly busy however it felt like they may have been short staffed? It took forever for someone to come to our table and offer drinks or take any sort of order. Water glasses were left empty until we asked for drink refills in which it seemed like we were interrupting their day. Rude service left for a terrible dining experience. When orders were taken, and eventually received, a starter salad which was ordered, was not provided (probably forgotten) but was not on the bill either. The orders included fish and chips and steak and potatoes. The fish was dry however the french fries were fantastic and flavourable. The steak and potatoes was fantastic even though a little undercooked to my liking ( I order medium well and it was still a bit bloody). Again, the potatoes with the dinner were very flavourful and delicious. Food prices were on par with what is available elsewhere. If not for the poor service I would consider going again.
Great casual place with great food.
Really great atmosphere. Fantastic food and portions for the price.
A number of my friends had to return their undercooked meatloaf. I had fish and chips and the fish was dried out. I think it was a busy evening. I enjoyed the atmosphere but had better dinners here in the past. A little disappointing.
I had a logged meatloaf, but had to send it back twice because it was raw inside. Deep fried potatoes were awesome!
Not sure why you don't serve vegetables with your meals!
I really enjoy the ambiance of this place. The food is well done with excellent flavour. Creative dishes with a seasonal twist. Service has always been excellent with great staff!
Had dinner with a friend to celebrate birthday and the food was great! Service was super attentive and friendly. Highly recommend !
great food and wonderful decor. A great place to take friends for a drink and apps or a great quality meal. Price is worth what you get. Quality and flavour
I loved the renovation. The new look is fantastic and very inviting. Staff were quite attentive. The menu has been updated and the offerings all look delicious. Will definitely go back again.
Everything was good and we will be back.
In our dinner party there were some people with Celiac and gluten free requirements so Marbles seemed to be one of the only places in town to accommodate both.
Everyone loved their food, Calamari, wings, fishNchips, burger, Moroccan Tagine.
My son gave the wings a 10 out of 10.
The service was really good and we would definitely return.
The food was very tasty
Presentation was outstanding
The food is consistently good at Marbles. I recommend the Chicken and Avocado Toast for lunch.
Haven't been to marbles in a long time, but I remember it for their great burgers. In my group one of us orderd the burger, and two has the lamb burger. We also had appetisers. None of our items were particularly flavourful. Overall - it was quite disappointing!
There are very good reasons why Marbles Restaurant has been in operation since 1977!
Small and friendly with great ambience, this venue was great for our family of two teens and parents with certain dietary restrictions. The menu clearly labels vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan options which keep things uncomplicated and easy to order with enough variety to satisfy all. The attendants were short-staffed the night we were there yet they were polite and gracious and kept pace with the full house in attendance. My husband commented that he would order the beef stroganoff again, while my daughters enjoyed the burger they ordered.
Not a lot of choice of salads. Asked for a ceasar with chicken but they could not provide chicken??? So five leaves of romaine lettuce and a bit of dressing does not inspire me to come back.
The service is always friendly and fast. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu items and offer good recommendations as well as go out of their way to accommodate guest requests. The food is good quality, has some unique offerings and the menu changes semi-regularly - enough to keep things interesting. The remnants of the former horse stable that the building used to be adds to the ambience. Have eaten there many times with different groups and will continue to come back.
Food was mediocre service okay
Part of what Marbles is about is location, location, in downtown Waterloo. The outdoor cafe is somewhat sheltered from wind and sun so it's usually comfortable. Our service was outstanding with Laura leading the way and oh, by the way, the food got good reviews too! The fish was terrific. Will be back for sure.
