This Reaturant is permanently closed. Even though you can make a reservation. Ridiculous !!
They were closed, very frustrating. You should not be able to make reservations online when restaurants are closed. We drove a half hour to go to dinner with out of town guests only to find the restaurant was closed. It took us another 45 minutes to get into another restaurant as it was Saturday night.
Highly recommend! The food was amazing. Salads were fresh and flavorful. I had the lamb chops and my husband had the lasagna. You can tell that the owner of this restaurant takes pride in what is served. We live just a few minutes away, but had never eaten here before. This is now my favorite place to dine in Rochester. We will definitely be back.
Worst service and bad food. The calamari was chewy and made me gag. The pasta was hard, the waitress left mid shift and didn't say she was leaving. I asked for chicken on my ravioli and they brought out a plain chicken breast on the side after I had eaten half my ravioli. This place needs to shut down. Horrible.
We made a reservation for Valentines Day. Given the location and menu we thought we would be in for a romantic memorable experience...memorable is what we got for sure. We arrived and the restaurant was empty which was very odd for Valentines Day when they had stated they were fully booked. We ordered a bottle of wine which took 15 minutes to get. Our server who also claimed to be the assistant manager had no clue about anything on the menu. We both order salads prior to our dinner. One antipasto salad and one Caesar. After 45 minutes she came to the table and asked if I wanted my Caesar as an appetizer. By this point we just found the whole experience humorous and decided to just see it through. (Mind you a few tables have been seated and actually ordered food and left by now and we haven't even had our order taken!) she appeared a few minutes later with my Caesar salad on an appetizer plate and and large pasta platter for my husband who was confused as to what happened to his antipasto salad and what this pasta platter was. Shocked she apologized for the mix up she thought this pasta platter is what he ordered and would bring him an antipasto salad and he asked for extra pepprocini (sic) to which she replied we are all sold out (odd) and he also asked if my bread plate of salad was the $8 Caesar and she replied yes (which was tossed in ranch). Finally after receiving our proper antipasto salad minus peppers we placed a dinner order of scampi and lasagna both which appeared to be something you could buy in the freezer section at the local grocery store.
I have to say the location is beautiful and has great potential if only they exuded proper care of customer care and attention to detail. We will not be back.
Great vibe in this restaurant, very nice people, but it seems they cut corners when it comes to the food. I asked for balsamic vinegar to add to the dipping oil for the bread and was given Heinz Red Wine Vinegar. Not the same. I ordered Frutti di Mare. The angel hair pasta it was served with may have been the worst pasta I've ever eaten. I substituted a lemon white wine sauce for the palomino sauce it comes with and that was good. The shrimp was excellent, the muscles were good, but they "forgot" to include the calamari. Same thing happened with the lady at the table next to me who ordered the same dish, but she didn't realize it until I asked our waitress about it. My calamari was fried up and brought out on the side...I'm guessing it was just recently thawed out and it was some of the worst calamari I've ever had. It was grainy and didn't taste very good. I liked the feel and ambiance of the place and would like to go back there to hang out...maybe sit at the bar and order an appetizer.
The service was outstanding and the food was even better. After we asked our server a few questions, it sounds like the restaurant has new management and a lot of positive changes are being made. All dishes are freshly made, from fresh ingredients and made to order. Ambiance was fantastic as well. I wish I didn't live out of state so I could go back soon!
We took our family to Mamma Mia on Christmas Eve for the first time. The ambiance was wonderful. The service was excellent. The food was delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant for every day dining to a special event. This is a little gem tucked away in downtown Rochester.
This was our third time at Mama Mia's and I must say, I was very impressed. The first two times, the service was not very good, but this was shortly after they opened, so I am happy to see they've addressed this issue. Our waitress couldn't have been more attentive, the food was amazing and the atmosphere was perfect. I am looking forward to going back again.
We suspected something was wrong when we arrived for our reservation and the restaurant was virtually empty. A few minutes after arriving, we were met by someone and after an awkward exchange asking if we had reservations, he said he would check on a table for our party. During his absence, a group was walking out and warned us that it tool 45 minutes to get their drunk order.. strike 1.
The man returned as they were leaving and heard the complaint and told us they were an angry group.. Then another group was leaving and one of our group asked how their experience was, and they responded "ok" and made a face that signified other.. strike 2.
We were seated in a room with about 6 or 7 tables with nobody in it, but dirty dishes on the table. As we sat, another group came into the room, specifically to tell us that the place was filthy and their experience was horrible.... STRIKE 3 AND WE WERE GONE
Had the veal piccata was good. Not the. Eat ice ever had but not the worst. Place was empty.
Awesome expiernce the best restueant in the whole area
Lovely location..overlooking Paint Creek, quiet, excellent food, friendly service……we were not rushed …..spent at least 2 hours …..we were a group 7 …...
All four members of my party had different dinner entrees (scampi, house made sausage & peppers, chicken & mushroom risotto and shrimp & asparagus risotto) and all were very good. Fresh, hot and tasty. Portions were very generous, and prices were reasonable. Our server was very friendly, and attentive. We dined on the outdoor balcony overlooking Paint Creek. It was lovely and peaceful. We all agreed that dinner was great and we will be back. We were all also amazed that the restaurant was not busier.
Honestly. We've been here 3 times. EVERY time the food was great. BUT, the wait staff was extremely slow. We waited twice, YES TWICE, as long for our salads and main courses than anywhere else I've ever been. (except indian restraunts) Not a fan of anyway! I think Momma's just needs an attentive manager. Good Luck!
Our waitress was either drunk, stupid or stupid drunk. This pretty much ruined the evening. The creek side deck was really nice though.
Service was slow and forgetful. Shared way too much of her personal life. Kitchen ran out of half of the menu. Food was slow, dry, and bland.
7 p.m.on a Saturday night and the place was empty, my third time there since they opened and I've never seen another soul. The food was pretty good however the restaurant had a weird odor which couldn't be overlooked and is buried deep in a professional office complex . The place has potential, but needs work.
We purposely went the night before New Year's Eve to avoid crowds.
The dinner and appetizers were exceptional. The veal was served in a very delicate but flavorful sauce. Not heavy at all. Background music was not at all loud, and was a nice mix of operatic, light stringed, and symphony.
I'm only disappointed in the name: Mama Mia Tuscan Grille. Sounds like a cheesy chain restaurant. But we will be back.
Very disappointed in the service. When we arrived there was nobody at the hostess stand. There was no bartender. There was one waitress. She did the best she could. Menu prices were higher when we arrived than they were online. When she brought our bill and we handed her our credit card, the restaurant tacked on another $10 to our bill at the end for using a credit card. That seems a little shady.
My friend and I arrived about 7:50 pm for dinner on a Saturday Night in mid November, there was not a soul in the restaurant other than one couple sitting by the bar area. No Hostess in sight. The restaurant looked like it was ready to close. We went to another restaurant a block away and had a wonderful time! Just what we wanted to experience, a lot of people, great service and terrific food!
We enjoyed our dinner and outside dining at Mamma Mia's. The food was prepared very nicely, The wine needed a little more chilling but that was fixed by letting it breath in some ice a bit longer. They need more traffic and can be a very good restaurant with additional customers which allows the staff to fully exercise and show their skills. Give them a chance and enjoy a good meal.
Service was so slow!! Food was absolute horrible. At one point the music stopped for about 20 min. We think it was because they kept playing abba on repeat and it skipped. I ordered filet mignon medium when it came out it was in 2 pieces and was as black as a hockey puck. I took one bite and didn't even want to swallow it. I sent it back and told them to take it off my tab and that I didn't want anything else and ended up going to another restaurant to eat.
No marinara sauce for a vegetarian. Received meat sauce on my eggplant parmesean. Are without sauce. Not the best. Also no dessert. Too late I was told even though online shows the restaurant open much later that we were told when we arrived.
First time at Mamma Mia. Let's just say I won't be back. The service was incredibly slow. They only had 2 servers working on a Saturday night covering about 15 tables. We were there for over 2 hours. We sat for 15 minutes before our server even came to the table. The food was just average. My wife got the sea scallops and they were pretty good. I got the seafood fettuccine, which was supposed to come with shrimp, lobster, crab, scallops, and red peppers. It showed up with shrimp and mussels. 3 of the 6 mussels weren't even open. It was not a good experience.
Bad. Just bad. Never going again.
I went to Mamma Mia for Valentine's Day and must say it was just okay. Nothing went wrong and the service was decent. I just wasn't overly impressed with the food. I think it's a somewhat newer restaurant so perhaps it will improve over time.
We went to Mamma Mia for the first time on Valentine's Day 2015. It was a great time. Food was outstanding. Service was attentive, especially the sommelier. We had a clamor appetizer, Chicken Genovese, Osso Bucco and split the tiramisu. Everything was great. As previous reviews have stated, the meal does take some time, but, if you think about it, in Europe, that's how it is. You sit and enjoy the courses and talk.
Overall, wine list was good, selection of food was good, dessert selection was good. Ambience was quiet as it was slow. The view from the chairs along the window is awesome.
My wife said afterward, she wants to go back for her birthday. That's a huge compliment because she previously had a *spot* she wouldn't veer from on her birthdays.
We waited in the vestibule for too long until we were greeted by a server I believe. He said sit where you like. There were 3 other couples in there on a Friday night before valentines day. The server came and gave us menus but never came back. We waited for about 10 minutes. Never received drinks. Looked around and another table was just sitting there with no drinks. Not sure what happened or what was going on. We left. Our server never returned. I hope thus gets to someone who can make a change because I don't see myself going back.
Food was good. Service was slow. Did not have wine requested. Took forever to get my drink when it wasnt remotely busy. Waiter seemed like he didnt want to be there. Maybe you were short on help that night. Not sure what the problem was. I wont come back.
