Food wasn’t great and was over priced. It was a nice looking area and quiet.
Food was not that good especially for the price.
Great food. Great restaurant.
Service was extremely slow! Took forever to get dinner and the restaurant was not crowded. They didn’t have the wine we ordered from their menu. The breadcrumbs on the scallops were burnt and otherwise very bland. The filet was not cooked correctly and very bland, the sweet potatoes on the side was terrible. The best part of the experience was with the host who sat us who was dressed in a tux and very professional. The waitress and helpers were dressed in jeans and tee shirts which is not what was expected at a fine dining restaurant. I Would not recommend or go back, very disappointing for a Marriott property.
Food was ok but had to reorder one dish because it was very over done. Service was slow and unresponsive. Not impressed
New Years Eve family dinner
Was there for Christmas dinner (special menu.) One of the few places open in Newport. There were only two other tables seated and it was an off-time (1.15 PM), but we waited for 40 minutes for water and bread, then another 40 after appetizers for our entree. The entire meal took 2 hours 45 minutes, most of which was spent just waiting. Perhaps they were short-staffed. Food was very good, however. Marina view is nice; otherwise ambiance is just upscale hotel. Severs had to bring food from some distance away (could see them carrying heavy trays from down the hotel corridor.)
placed a drink order prior to dinner, 1st two selections were not available, out of stock, final choice came in a plastic cup after waiting 30 minutes. SENT IT BACK!
I have dined here several times for breakfast and dinner. As a party of two, we were always seated by the window so we had a great view of the water and boats. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious. I love the nautical vibe of the décor. If you have time, take a walk through the Marriott hotel....it is gorgeous.
My daughters and I had a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner at the Main Sail. The turkey dinner was very delicious. I loved that I could also get typical kids food for my girls because they do not eat brussel sprouts, etc. I wish they did but oh well! The restaurant had a nice vibe, busy and festive, but not crazy. My only complaint is that our dinner took forever and I had two tired hungry girls. The table next to us sat down after us and left before we even had our dinner. Something went wrong. Forgot about us perhaps. It wasn't the end of the world, but we wanted to leave to watch a movie, that is why we booked an early dinner.
The delicious meal made up for it. Service was good and apologetic.
Breakfast was also outstanding!!! And kids food was VERY affordable, which I appreciate!
Thanksgiving meal. The food was mediocre. Appetizers were good. Main meal was fair but dessert was inedible. The courses were served too quickly; one right after the other without break. However, the view was very good.
We had the breakfast Buffet
It was delicious. The service was excellent and very friendly!
We love the buffet brunch at the Marriott Mainsail restaurant. It has a variety of foods to satisfy any palate. Delicious waffles and omelettes made to order. A variety of fresh fruits with homemade whipped cream. A variety of breakfast breads, pastries and muffins. Eggs, breakfast meats and home fries. Steel cut oatmeal!
You can enjoy a relaxing brunch with a view of Newport harbor. The servers are very friendly. An enjoyable, delicious brunch!!
If you like a quiet night out with a water view and good prices the Mainsail has it all.
Quiet restaurant, great place to get away from the busy downtown while still being downtown and best part is the wonderful view of the harbor. The food is really good and while on the expensive side, there are various discounts that you can take advantage of which make the food prices reasonable. Will return.
Was really great. The steak came out over cooked but they brought us a new one right away!
Food was good. Staff was great. Nice place
Good food and beautiful views.
We waited over and hour and a half for our entree. I completely understand that things come up and they were short staffed, however, the situation should have been handled more appropriately by management.
Grabbing a quick bite before meeting up with friends. The baked scallops and simple grill swordfish were fantastic!
Dinner was just lukewarm (rice bowl with shrimp) and came with white rice not brown as requested. Grilled shrimp were Very good on top of mediocre ricebowl
Poor slow service when the restaurant wasn’t even busy! Would not go again
We went 2 for 1 entree Thursday night and it was excellent. The swordfish and scallops were tasty and done just the way we ordered. It wasn't crowded but regardless service was terrific. We had eaten out at the waterfront restaurants for two days so we didn't mind giving up sitting outside. Still had a lovely water view.
Great evening with a beautiful view! Calamari, wedge salad, lobster tortellini and baked scallops...yum. Good selection of drinks and BOGO free entrees!
Food and service were very good. View of the harbor was a plus
Coming back to Newport from Block Island on the fast ferry we needed a place to meet a friend for dinner before driving back to NY. A half hour early my wife and I got to the Marriott sat at the bar and had a drink with friendly bartender.
When are friend arrived we were seated at a table with a view and had a wonderful meals. my wife and our friend had two differently prepared salmons and I had clam chowder and a wedge salad with shrimp. The service and food were excellent.
Excellent food and service
Great ambiance, food and service. Waitress was particularly acc
Charred fruit salad was not charred and had tons of dressing on it. Had to return it and get a Caesar salad. Waitress did not appear for a good 45 min.after we ordered appetizers. Rolls were like bricks. Food was average at best. Service was extremely slow. Heard multiple tables complaining. Would not go back.
On a busy Saturday night, this restaurant was the only one in Newport to have available tables. It was not far from the main action in Newport. It has a nice view of boats and water. Environment was clean, quiet, not crowded. Staff were professional and respectful. We had our salads, then came a looooooong wait for the food. We thought that they went out to fish to get our swordfish and scallops! Both were delicious, but despite the restaurant was half empty, the service was slow. There is street parking in from of the hotel. Nice view and good food. We will definitely go back there sometime soon, but not very hungry and with patience.
Great downtown location. Nice ambiance.
Service was good not special. Calamari was not good - we ordered 2 to share for 6 and we didn’t finish. Scallops were good. Reasonable price for the area.
Newport was extremely crowded and there were lines everywhere. Without a reservation restaurants were booked until 10:30 at night. The Marriott had room and it was wonderful. It overlooked the water and was quiet and large. It was a welcome change to the crowds and noise outside. Our waiter, Travis, was knowledgeable and delightful. The food was very good and the prices weren't bad at all. It's a well-kept secret that we stumbled upon and are very glad we did.
Now I know why there were many open reservation slots for dinner... my baked scallops were great but my fiancé’s filet was well done after we just spoke with the waitress as to how she wanted it... not waitresses fault, but the kitchen should be able to get that right ... always under cook a steak just a little if you need too. Dessert was supposed to be a berry shortcake... it was a premade (well in advance) refrigerated glass mug of layers of stuff... no fresh berries or shortcake really, just cold soggy smuckers type berry jellies with some whip cream... not good.... they brought us a new steak and didn’t charge us for the filet, the manager brought it over and felt bad about it all... the second filet was cooked the right way. Overall, I would go there for lunch out on their deck/wine bar, but not for sit down dinner again. 2.5 our of 5 stars
Food and service were excellent. The harbor view is beautiful, and it is a nice escape from all the crowds at other spots on the harbor. We will be back on our next visit.
Adequate if you are a guest at the hotel and don't want to go out.
I was skeptical since it was a hotel restaurant and was offering 1000 points. I picked it due to the ratings on yelp and was the only place above 4 stars that was not dressy. What a surprise! Service was first rate, prices were reasonable and food was excellent! Raw bar offer was awesome. Salmon entree my date had was moist and flavorful. I ordered the baked scallops, portion was HUGE! 6 I have and a half scallops that were succulent and well seasoned! View was awesome too!
Table on the deck was shady and pleasant. The lobster roll was balanced with a fresh salad.
poor food quality
the microwave is the chef in the kidchen!
I needed to book lunch for a large group on a very busy weekend in Newport, where both Salve Regina University graduation and the Volvo Ocean race where taking place. Open Table made it so easy and we had an excellent lunch at the Marriott MainSail. The staff was so helpful and attentive and everyone enjoyed the lunch. The stuffed tater tots were a big hit!
