Mahony & Sons - UBC
Welcome to Mahony & Sons. Slainte!
Came before concert..sat for 15 minutes -no server - asked the hostess and she took our food order -waited another 20 or so for the food which was good. The make server apologized- the restaurant wasn’t aware of the concert -in competition with ubc food services. Perhaps you should review what is going on at the concert venue and you can prepare.
Relaxed, welcoming ambience. Pleasant, friendly staff. Quick service of tasty food - I had the Thai yellow curry with prawns. Within walking distance of the Chad Centre where we were attending a concert. 20% discount for Chad Centre ticket holders.
The singer/entertainer was too loud for this small space making conversation at our table a bit challenging. I would recommend a lower volume!
The price of food for the very small portions was completely unreasonable.
Our waitress was attentive and the atmoshpere pleasant enough, but that was about it.
Small menu due to Christmas but still good.
We had a great waiter. Food was fine.
Average but as expected.
Very busy campus focused bar; good food and interesting beers. Due to a large group they struggled with service and timing; but the server and management responded with kindness, apologies and a thoughtful discount. Kudos
Unlike previous, service was quite slow this visit which can be troublesome for business meetings when time is tight. One side item was never delivered.
Good service and ambience. Food good but small portions and overpriced.
We did not end up staying for lunch because it was too noisy in there due to the soccer World Cup Championship. I'm sure it's not always like that. We were meeting friends and wanted to visit so it was not conducive to visiting. Maybe next time. Can't comment on the food as we did not eat.
The food was good.
Disappointing, uninspired food. Small portions. Chose this location due to its proximity to the figure skating. Was embarrassed that I brought my out of town guests here. Will not be returning:(
Delicious Papaya salad and Lamb Dip sandwich. Burgers were crowd pleasers too. Servers were helpful and happy to accommodate.
Lovely spot. Be sure to make a reservation beforehand - she gets busy!
A useful option in an area with very few restaurants within walking distance of UBC campus. It's a pub, so food is OK not great, but good beer options and a nice place to hang out, although seating is not comfortable.
We chose this restaurant because of its location at UBC. Although the restaurant was not busy, we were told there would be a forty-five minute wait for food. My soup was extremely salty and I did not finish it. The server did not bring us the bill in a timely manner and so I had to go find her to request the bill. The food was overpriced. The restaurant itself is pleasant and in a great location. I don't understand why more effort isn't put in to correct the basic quality of the food and service.
They were understaffed and as a result service was very, very poor.
Terrible service. Lacklustre food. They stay in business thanks to beer.
great neighbourhood pub
good food and great beer selection
Nice lunch but surprised by how much food they were out of given
it is one of the few campus restaurants that remained open over the holidays. They had no beef burgers and no salmon. They holiday menu on offer was already quite small and without burgers there were even fewer choices.
Went on a busy night, had a reservation and we were late but called ahead and they honoured it wich was great, although they sat us right at the opening to a side entrance door which people kept opening on us. Server was overwhelmed and forgetful. The kitchen was sold out of 3 menu items we wanted and it was before 7pm.
Always have great service at Mahony. Our server Kirsty was very attentive and friendly.
It would be understandable of the server had multiple tables to attend to however this was not the case. I had asked for ketchup at least 3 times and on each occasion the server had asked if there was anything she could bring; for some reason or another, each time she had forgotten my condiment request. About the fourth time is when someone else brought me the condiments. Perhaps next time I should have went to the bar and/or the kitchen to ask for the condiment directly. Same thing was experienced when I asked for the bill. I think it will be some time before I revisit this place again.
The waitress was very nice and efficient, but the food was not so good. Had the bacon cheese burger and it was dry, bland and the bacon under-cooked - it was rubbery. We did like the fact that it wasn't too noisy (this was a Wednesday evening).
The papaya salad was delicious. The food was tasty and there were many choices on the menu.
Also, It is close and convenient to dine near the theatre.
my favorite Italian Club Salad was excellent as usual and the server was nice enough to request the toasted bread with no garlic and the replacement was better than expected.
Service was very good. I had the veggie burger which was great.
Chowder was good, but not excellent. Party size nachos were dissapointing: small and lacking toppings. Food quality is much better at Koerners Pub
Really bad service...was busy, so not her fault. Had gluten-intolerant client with me and he loved that he could eat there, so BRAVO for that!
Service continues to be slow and makes me 2nd guess this for a lunch business meeting
Good food, good ambience and service at a reasonable cost. The curry was delicious.
Our table was not ready, had to wait 15 min. We asked to be close to a TV to watch the WhitecapsFC , but we could not see it from our table..
This was a perfect place for a work lunch. Lots of space and delicious food. They have some of the best sweet potato fries I've ever had and the Guinness gravy is fantastic. My only criticism is that it is a bit on the expensive side for a pub located on a university campus.
It was a pub lunch, but not worth the $20 dine out charge. Better to order off the main menu.
Food was adequate but not even warm...place was noisy and dark.
The servers did an amazing job...only two of them, and a team of 30 kids came in for lunch...
I should have known better...a pub.
Good solid food in an Irish pub setting.....a great spot for lunch on campus
Upon arrival, hostess never told us they only had the late menu which was mainly just appetizers. She still gave us the regular menu. I was pretty disappointed as I was hoping to have an entree meal, if I had know this I would've had a drink and left but at that moment I had already ordered appys and drinks. It was not until I decided what entree I wanted that she said she was sorry and forgot to tell us ...
great menu items; I love the chicken clubhouse salad. The servers were friendly and very attentive.
I ordered the fish tacos with tossed salad for lunch and the food was delivered in good time and the taste was excellent.
We had fish & chips and bangers & mash. The fish piece was a little small. If you have an appetite get two pieces. Bangers and mash were great and the vegetables were outstanding. Our waitress was very nice but she was run off her feet. She could have used some help.
