   I booked a table through top table two days in advance and when we arrived there was no record at all of the booking and the host tried to deny that I had even booked until i showed him my toptable confirmation email at which point he offered the rather pathetic excuse of 'oh, I wasn't working on the day the booking was made'- as if that was my problem. Anyway, he managed to sort a table after a bit of a wait and the food was very good as was the service thereafter. The skewer of mincemeat is excellent as is the saffron rice

   Before dining at Mahdi, I received five separate phone calls from them - one was to ask me to confirm my booking, and all the others were to ask where I was and if I still planned to turn up (my booking was for 9pm but all the calls were between 7 and 8.30pm). It was a bit annoying - especially as they were quite rude - but the meal and service at the restaurant more than made up for it! The waiters were all extremely friendly and helpful, and the food (huge portions) was delicious and excellent value.
