Igniting a culinary renaissance upon opening in 1990, Charleston's most popular restaurant is located at the site of the city's original Customs House (circa 1739). Led by chefs Don Drake and Kelly Franz, Magnolias remains a forerunner in upscale Southern cuisine, blending traditional ingredients and cooking techniques with a modern flair for artful presentations.

Very disappointed. Reserved online more than a month ago, seated in back room while many tables open in the main dining room. . Food mediocre and mushy. Will not go back. Many far superior dining establishments in this city.

Service was spectacular as was the menu of traditional Southern fare. We really enjoyed the beautiful room with magnolia paintings and old Charleston architecture.
Gluten free options were delicious!!!

Our experience was wonderful. Alice made our time very special. No rush. Relaxing. We had the Pimento Cheese w/ flatbread appetizer and enjoyed it. One order of Fried Chicken that was delish and one order Blue Crab Bisque and Sea Scallops ... would recommend all of the above.

We were visiting for the day and ‘Ms Alice’ our tour guide said Magnolia was a must. So we had lunch there and for this foodie couple she was correct! The cocktails at the bar were mixed with fresh ingredients. For lunch we decided to split the fried chicken and so glad we did - it was huge! I grew up in the south and love collard greens, but this was the absolute best I’ve ever had - hands down! Everything was cooked perfectly and I will recommend to others what a great place to dine. AND if you want the best tour in town, I highly recommended Ms Alice who is actively involved in the history of Charlston AND an excellent story teller!

Great food, great drinks and great service. There were 6 of us and although one couple in our party was delayed in arriving we never felt rushed. Highly recommended.

This was recommended to me by a gal I sat next to on the plane ride over. My wife and I were very pleased with our meal and the service. I would highly suggest this restaurant anyone who asks.

Food was wonderful. Service was excellent. It was a little noisy but not too bad. It was a little crowded at our table when they seated the table next to us especially when their waiter was talking to them. We will definitely will return next time we are in Charleston!

We researched many restaurants in Charleston and asked many friends for recommendations. Magnolias was the one we chose and we were not disappointed. Our reservation was later in the evening, but our waiter was gracious and did not rush us at any point.

Others have said, “When you go to Charleston you must eat at Magnolias” and do we did. We did order the fried green tomatoes and they were AMAZING! It stopped there however. My husband did enjoy his shrimp and grits. I ordered a steak and it was mediocre. Perhaps it is my fault for ordering beef in a seafood town but I don’t favor seafood. No one was overly wecoming or warm which was so disappointing! I’ve always heard such charming compliments about Southern charm and hoped of all places food and beverage servers would offer that, unfortunately no.

Food was nothing compared to my last visit. The duck was fatty and not very flavorful. Shared my comments with the waiter. The three of us took one bite to taste the meal. I didn't eat it and was charged anyway.

We had requested a table for 3 at the front windows as we had a guest from Houston and chose Magnolias to be with her. Our request was totally ignored and the staff even sat a couple at a four-top moments before we arrived. We understood them to be a walk-in.
We were seated in the middle of the restaurant in the path of all the servers.
As local residents, we will opt to other restaurants that listen to their customer’s requests.

This was the best restaurant we ate in Charleston not only was the food amazing but the service was definitely fabulous!!! True southern hospitality . I ordered the Parmesan crusted mahi-mahi and my husband had the short ribs and both were cooked above perfection. I’m typically A red wine girl, but went out on a limb and tried their lavender/ vanilla ginger beer handcrafted cocktails and I will have to say I’ve never tasted anything so delicious.. My husband and I wished we had eaten there more than once on our on our trip . Can’t wait to come back .

Both of our dishes were not very good. This is the first place I have been to where I left over half of my plate and did not want to take it with me.

Service was good. Atmostphere was good too.

Maybe it was just an off day but with all of the incredible food we have had in Charleston we will not be back here soon if at all.
