In 1912, at the bend of Forest Avenue, 23 year old Joe Jahraus opened the Laguna Lumber Company, he and his father(cigar maker, first postmaster and real estate agent) built the beautiful French Normandy building that is here today. Prior to the lumberyard opening, building supplies needed to be dragged in by mule or floated in on the tides, and therefore, Laguna Beach had less than three hundred permanent residences. After the lumberyard opened, the area began to grow at unprecedented rates, transforming it from a tent town into a thriving city. Laguna Lumber operated for seventy three years, sixty two of them in this location and its' architecture, influenced by Joe's tour abroad in World War I, is one of the most significant influences on the town's aesthetic. Half timbers, mud walls and shingled roofs grace many of the downtown storefronts and homes throughout the city because of this landmark. Today, 384 Forest is home to Lumberyard - a contemporary American restaurant.

We love the Lumberyard! Even when an entree goes wrong, they find a way to make it right! The Sea Bass came overcooked and tough and was not well seasoned. The server took it back without hesitation and the substitute we requested - meatloaf - seemed to appear immediately and was delicious! And the beet salad never disappoints

I wish you had given me the opportunity to rate the noise level differently. It was NOT energetic, it was deafening. I couldn't hear a word my dinner companion was saying. I finally had to take out my hearing aids and although, I could carry on a conversation, it was less painful. The servers were great and attentive. The ribs were as good as always. The campfire chocolate chip cookie was underbaked and I won't order it again. Check out BJs Pizookie and you'll see the difference.

We have dined here many times and always enjoyed it. This time it was a bit disappointing. We started with the Wedge Salad which had no Blue Cheese. We were told it was in the dressing which we did not find in the dressing. We requested a side which our server brought us. My husband had the meatloaf which was a bit smaller than in the past but very good. I had the Burger and it was disappointing. It had no seasoning and had no taste. They started playing music in the bar area at 6:00 pm, but the restaurant was very crowded and noisy so you could not hear the music.

I love this place. Great food, great staff, great bar, great vibe. Nice place to spend an evening in Laguna.

I recommend Lumberyard- we both got salads that were delicious, big enough to be filling, the server gave helpful advice, friendly and service was prompt. We will be back to try other items and some dessert

We had a wonderful dinner! The hostess was polite and accommodating. Our server was helpful and attentive without being intrusive. The owner came by and gave us the interesting history of the restaurant. All four of us had different meals and each one was delicious. The calamari appetizer was excellent, too! I highly recommend The Lumberyard!
