We came for a nice dining experience before the theater (the reservation was made well in advance), expected to be seated in the dining area where there is not a television and instead were seated in the bar section. This has not happened before when we’ve eaten here; the bar was crowded and noisy with customers waiting to be seated for dining- not a great situation when the cost was $100+for the evening- not sure why we were seated in the bar area.

Tasty meal but portions were smaller than expected. I ordered the 1-1/2 pound snapper for $35 and by the time I got through picking the bones enjoyed about 6 ounces of meat. It came with no sides either. My wife ordered the vegan dish of rice with mushrooms and Brussels sprouts for $20 which was very good but the portion was smaller then expected.

Great Eatery with a very eclectic menu, keeping it outside of what is served at so many other establishments on the Island. Service is great, try the duck bowl or the shrimp and crab bowl. The restaurant has been totally renovated, totally refreshed including the bar area which we love.

This restaurant serves excellent quality food. Our server Meredith was outstanding.
I find it a bit unusual and annoying that Lucky Rooster doesn’t serve bread and I enjoy bread with my meal.

My wife and I were looking for a casual mid- week dinner. We decided to try the Lucky Rooster and obtained a 7 pm reservation. We were seated on time and we both ordered the same meal - shrimp over rice. The restaurant was about 50% full.

Within minutes our apparently precooked meals were delivered to our table. In fact, the meals arrived just after we had been served some drinks “to start off.” The dinners were priced at $27 apiece. The online menu contains no prices. This place, which has virtually no ambiance, turns out to be one of the higher priced restaurants on the Island. The meal itself was tasty but the meal portion was very VERY small. The meal consisted of 5 pieces of shrimp over rice. There was nothing that accompanied the meals - no salad or bread. All sides are extra starting at $6.00.

We were finished our meal by 7:25 pm. So much for a relaxing satisfactory experience. Both of us left hungry and with the distinct and uncomfortable feeling that we had been ripped off. When I commented to the waiter that the portions seemed child- size, he didn’t respond at all but as we were leaving he handed me a BOGO coupon. I guess this is how they get repeat business.

We have been visiting the Island since 1987. This was our worst overall dining experience.

It took almost an hour to receive our food after ordering. This was very disappointing in that we arrived on time at 5:30 p.m. and were attending a play just down the street at 7:00 p.m. We had no time to enjoy our meal. Not a good experience.

The Rooster had an off night. They are normally one of my favorite places on the island- we eat there often. I reserved ( and had confirmed) a booth in the bar area but it had been given away when we arrived. The explanation was :” I don’t know, there is no excuse.” Without making a fuss, we said we’d just eat at the bar. There were 3 bartenders working and seemed in a frantic state. We sat for over 10 minutes before a drink order was taken. Then sat over 15 minutes before our meal order was offered. When I asked about specials, the bartender said nothing, slammed down a menu for me to read. Again, he seemed overwhelmed. During this time, another ignored couple got up and left without anyone addressing them. The couple beside us looked at us and just shook there head as if to say, “can you believe this?” Not sure what was going on that night. Full moon?

First, our meal, a special, was excellent. However the menu had bad selections..The dessert menu had 2 choices, both strange. All of the starters were strange, with one salad. Even the dinner menu had poor selections?? The wine and liquor list was one of the best I've seen. We were there 2 yrs ago and everything was great.

In my opinion, the food was a bit overpriced. I ordered the sea bass and it appeared to be half of a filet. I will say it was very tasty, seasoned and cooked well. But, for $34, I was expecting a bigger portion of fish. I ordered the bone marrow appetizer and was disappointed and here is why: The bone was cut in half, length wise but, one half had some marrow and the other half had none. The chef breaded both so he had to of seen there was no marrow on the one. It was tasty and it was the first time trying marrow, just a little let down because, again, not very much food there for the price. The jewel of the night was the mushroom side dish, I could eat a bucket of those. All in all, nice, clean establishment, decent service but if I'm paying $165 for a meal for two people, I would expect to be full when I left. That didn't happen.

This is a restaurant and chef that has wonderful PR, but it didn't live up to it. Perhaps had spent more time in the kitchen and less time in the dining room the experience would have been different. Granted it was Valentine's day and I'm sure they aren't accustomed to that amount of traffic, but the food was average for the most part, although the Venison chili was excellent. To start the bartender was unable to make a dry martini, given two chances, so I paid $10 for half a glass of a drink I didn't drink. I had the shrimp creole style and quite unexpectedly there was almost no flavor at all. My wife's chicken, even the dark meat, was very dry. The apple crumble with ice cream was excellent. Overall the atmosphere was nice and the service was excellent, but the food disappointing. The last time I was at this restaurant was a couple of years ago. Now I know why it took me so long to go back. They gave as a BOGO card, but I won't be using it. Final word. It wasn't awful, but for a high-end restaurant I expected more.

Did not have any high end gin i.e., Bombay Sapphire which I thought was unusual. Additionally, they did not have bread service either before the meal or during the meal. We liked our meal but this was not as good as the last visit about 8 months ago.

We went with another couple and didn't know it was Restaurant Week. We loved the RW menu and all four of us ordered from it. The food was some of the best I've had on HHI and I've lived here for 36 years. We asked to sit in the bar as we like the atmosphere there much better than the dining room. We all feel that the dining room is too big and open with too much overhead light - not cosy and intimate. More booths down the middle with table lighting would be a huge improvement for that room. I would definitely come back to eat in the bar, though!

We went to participate in HHI Restaurant week. We were surprised to find out after we had ordered that one of the three entree were sold out even though it was only 6:30 P M. After the waitress consulted with the manager we were allowed to substitute an entree off the regular menu. We appreciated the corrective action, but left wondering How a well run restaurant could run out of a featured entree so early in the evening.

Lucky Rooster is a one of a kind restaurant on the island where the menu is consistently outstanding in quality and variation. You can expect the unexpected, always something different to delight all discerning tastes. Lucky Rooster is way up there in my top favorite fine dining restaurants.

I made a reservation with this app and when I arrived they were so backed up they couldn’t seat my party for time reserved and told me we would have to wait at least 20 minutes. Very upsetting, we were not happy at all!!

Went to HHI for my wife’s 50th Birthday, Luck Rooster is our Favorite Restaurant. All of the food I have ever ordered is spectacular! Very innovative and to say the least delicious. Food is outstanding, service is top notch, and for the quality of food and drinks they serve an excellent value. Give it a shot.

Great food and great service. You cannot go wrong with the Lucky Rooster. We have eaten there several times and tried several menu items and they are always great. They make their own tonic, and it is fantastic if you enjoy a mixed drink with tonic. Everything from the fresh seafood dishes to the chicken are wonderful. They also have very interesting appetizers, and a great quiet bar atmosphere if you just want to chill after a day at the beach.

Been to Lucky Rooster several times. Service is always good, but they may have been short the night we were there, as it was not as good as usual despite the restaurant being less than half full. We both had Caesar salads and cornbread for apps (is $11 a little high for a small salad?). My wife ordered their special burger which is usually terrific, but came out nearly raw despite being ordered well done. It was replaced, but of course now we ate separately. I had the shrimp and crab rice and it was terrific. Manager wrote off the burger, best he could do under the circumstances. On a separate note, a couple next to us ordered wine that the server described as "draft wine". Comes in a keg, so less waste for the restaurant. Her glass of white was actually foaming on arrival - I would stay away from that.

Best food on the Island! I've found it hard to find food that's anything special on Hilton Head. Lots of steakhouses, seafood restaurants, etc, but not much modern or unique. This is a great addition. I had the scallops which were perfectly cooked and came with a delicious cauliflower mix and sauce (and I don't even like cauliflower!).

Hadn't been here in a few years and quite frankly I didn't enjoy it then. My what a difference. Food was quite tasty with some interesting apps. I had Nashville Hot Quail and waffle. Only wish there was some more heat in the quail. Our dining partner had a flounder dish for his entree. Outstanding, as was my shrimp and crab rice. Cocktails were quite good. I recommend the Brooklyn a cross between a bourbon old fashioned and a Manhattan. Service was excellent with the server explaining vegan options to our other dining partner.
This restaurant is definitely back on my list.

We enjoyed our time st Lucky Rooster. The space is nice with good music. Service is good. Wife's shrimp and rice was pretty good. My NY strip quality was not so good. Without asking they did replace it and didn't charge which I'm pleased with. We'll go back and try other dishes.

The cocktails were great. The food was delicious - excellent preparation and presentation. However, my scallop dish could have been a bit hotter; it was only just warm when it arrived. In addition, the timing between courses was a bit rushed - the appetizer plates were whisked away just as the entrees came out of the kitchen. The restaurant was not full, so a bit more time could have been allowed for us to digest the appetizer and finish our cocktails before we received the main course. There were only 3 dessert options, none of them entirely to my liking, but the kitchen did adjust one for me.

The food and service was excellent. We went on a Saturday night and it was extremely noisy. Maybe on a weekday night it would be less crowded and less there would be less noise. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, however it is a little pricey

DO NOT EAT HEAR IF VEGAN!!! Very disappointed! We specifically went here because they put that they had vegan options and members of our family are vegan. We each ordered a drink, some apps, entrees and asked about the vegan option. The waitress told us it was made daily and would be root veggies over farro with a sauce. This sounded like a great option and our family (that is vegan) ordered it. When we got the vegan meal it was plain white rice instead of farro, just some mushrooms and brussels instead of root veggies, and no sauce. We asked for a sauce and they got us bbq sauce. We did not complain and were fine until we got the check. We had been over charged for drinks and on top of that they had charger $20 for the "vegan meal"
