Louisiana Purchase Downtown
Cajun and Creole cuisine and southern hospitality in a cozy, comfortable atmosphere.
I took my wife here for her birthday dinner at her request. Neither of us had eaten here before. A few days before, I made reservations online and requested a corner table. When we arrived, our table was waiting. The décor was perfect, a combination of wood and brick, the chairs comfortable, and the lighting just right to set the mood for what turned out to be a lovely evening, thanks for the most part to the delicious food and our exceptionally professional, congenial and informed server (Gina, you were amazing in every respect: thank you for your outstanding service that evening!). I highly recommend this well-designed and -managed restaurant for its delicious Southern cuisine, music and charm: I would certainly come back!
The only negative was my butter lettuce salad had wilted pieces and brown in it - had to pick it out.
Over the Years it seems the prices keep rising, but the portions stay the same, or are shrinking.
The food has become average as well, not sure why...
This restaurant was amazing and would definitely recommend it!
The food was so good, and the service was amazing!
Wonderful as always. Great food never disappoints and excellent service
Stopped in to have a few pops and apps before the Oilers game. Little bit more $ than your typical sports bar/lounge but the service was excellent, the drinks were great and the food was Fantastic!! Highly recommend this to anyone for any occasion.
Everything was very good! Great service and delicious food.
Myself and the wife make an effort at minimum twice a year (out of towners) to have a night out here. The food, ambiance, staff everything about the downtown location is great. Never had a bad dish, some more favorites then others but if you want that southern creole cooking cant get better then Louisiana Purchase. Everything from the catfish, to steamboat jambalaya, even a little gater is on the menu, and dont fill up to quick the deserts are a must as well. The menu items seem pricey but when you see the plate of food you get you'll know why, never a bad choice and always a full stomach leave satisfied every time, see you next time.
Good food, competent service, great place. Not much Wow factor, but a solid enjoyable experience
Very much enjoyed our dinner. We have been dining there for approx 30 years. Food is really good, ambiance is great and the bread pudding is the best in the city! We recommend LP to all our friends.
Great food, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere!
Took 15 minutes from the time we sat down until server took our drink order and another 20 until we got them. Dinner took equally as long. Overall, dinner took close to 3 hours. While we weren’t in a rush, it shouldn’t take that long to take orders. I recognise that it was Valentine’s Day but the restaurant did not seem overly busy and was about 75% capacity.
The food was okay but it didn’t blow me away and I certainly didn’t feel it justified the price. Cajun food by its nature is supposed to be simple but flavourful and I don’t think it met this standard. I did very much enjoy the bananas foster for dessert, however.
Overall, I was not impressed but I would be willing to give Louisiana Purchase another chance based on it’s reputation and in the off chance we happened to just hit a bad night. It definitely has the potential to be a great spot.
We have weekly date night to try something new
The food, beverages and desert was amazing. The young lady waiting our table was a true delight and made sure we were will taken care of.
Amazing, great food!
Great experience as always
A warm welcome at the door, excellent food, to match the service, a pleasure.
The food was lovely and the service fantastic. We quite enjoyed our evening.
Friendly, and accommodating for a special occasion dinner on the weekend. The crowd is a bit older. Food is good but not super cheap. The alligator when we went (though a rare treat) was about $16 for a kabob. Jambalaya is amazing, quite flavourful though just 1 shrimp on this platter for $21. Lots of ham, sausage, and chicken though.
Way over priced for a plate full of rice, 2 shrimp, 2 tiny crab claws still in shell, etc.
Crab cakes bland with still more rice. The few veggies on my plate were decent.
Won’t go again and was embarrassed that I chose this very pricy place for a first date.
Always great food! Went on a Friday night and it was not busy so it was nice to have a relaxing meal. Service is always great here too.
Catfish Po Boy was spicy and delish! Loved the atmosphere.
Great food! Really enjoyed the seafood gumbo.
I will not hesitate to return on a future trip to Edmonton.
Great service, great food. One of my favourite lunch spots.
Fantastic food! Great drinks and exceptional service. I look forward to coming back again soon!
Exceptional as always.
Service was very slow but mostly because they’d reduced portions by half yet kept the same price and filled the plate with fillers such as a huge pile of coleslaw that was inedible because it was too strongly flavoured with dill (yuck). Was once a favourite place but now would think twice about going back. Pity. ☹️
The food was very good😆
First time at Louisiana Purchase and we were very impressed! Delicious food, friendly staff, can't wait to go back and try another dish!
The atmosphere was great, very quiet for a Friday night, but that may of had something to do with the weather. Service was okay, a little timid, but would have expected more attentiveness to drinks specifically due to less patrons taking up the waitresses time. Food was excellent.
Most of the people at our table really enjoyed their meals. Upon recommendation from the waitress, one guest at our table ordered the “crawfish special of the day”. A mountain of crawfish arrived complete with all their parts (heads, legs, complete shell) and none of the staff could suggest the best way to eat them. Needless to say it was a messy struggle, taste was ok, but if I wanted to do all the work I would have made it at home. The meal should be easy for the guests to eat, these were not.
I don't know what I would do if they ever discontinued Dem Bones!
Food and service was very good, loved the catfish
Fantastic staff, good food, nice ambience.
Great food, service ... a wonderful experience... we will be back!
