Lou & Mickey's

We were there to celebrate my husband's fiftieth birthday. Unfortunately, so was the large table next to us and they were drinking and yelling over each other so loud we could not even have a conversation at our table. Also our server seemed to go MIA for half of our meal, so we were really not attended to. We decided to go eat dessert elsewhere due to the noisy table next to us.
Brian the was excellent knew the menu made great recommendations and was every attentive to our needs a great asset to have in staff
Service was great, no complaints. Food was just eh. Potatoes au gratin had no flavor, ended up sending them back. Seared Ahi Tuna was good, but overwhelming taste of sesame seeds. Overpriced for the flavor of the food.
Loved the aged meat! It was amazing! I will definitely eat there again next time I visit San Diego..
Wow! What a dinner!
We have gone to many steakhouse restaurants and this was exceptional!
Our steak was perfection! Filet with peppercorn sauce with roasted squash.
Food and service 5 stars!
My group ordered 2 fish, 2 ribeye, a filet, and linguine & clams. Sides of asparagus, Mac& cheese, scalloped potatoes, roasted beet salad, and Cesar salad. All were perfectly prepared. Bottle/drink selection at the bar is impressive. Chocolate cake and a sundae for dessert were rich, generous portions, that are good for sharing. Our server, Andrew, provided excellent service. I recommend this restaurant to everyone I know traveling to San Diego. They all love it, too.
I would normally have nothing but good things to say about the food and the service however we were there just a few weeks ago for a late dinner and we were shocked to find a piece of cardboard on my mother-in-law‘s salad and my steak wasn’t done to perfection.
Nice place to experience decent food but the reservations were over-sold. There was a 30 minute wait beyond set time and it was another 25 to 30 minutes befor a full order was taken. Once the full attention of the staff was attained, the service was good, though not great. The holiday pre-fixed menu had a very good selection to choose from and there was ample variety. This trendy hot spot is enjoying the pain of over popularity. Excellent wine list and good food are almost a good reason to come back. Maybe on a not so busy weekday. Pricey places such as this should be better prepared to service the committed clients otherwise expecting their money’s worth.
First of all, we were there on New Year's Eve, which may not be a fair night to judge a restaurant. We arrived early and got a table in the bar, and were seated for dinner within 5 minutes of our 8:45 pm reservation. Great round table for a party of 6. They had a limited menu, set price for 4 courses. Our waitress obviously had too many tables and seemed very rushed all evening; she never stopped by the table for more than 5 seconds to ask if all was OK. The food was hit and miss. Calamari appetizer was so-so - certainly not the best I've had. Beet salad was delicious. Surf and turf (filet and small lobster tail) was very good and steak cooked to order but lobster was dry. Dessert was not good - the apple cobbler tasted like there was rancid oil in it. Similar reviews from others in our group. We had fun because it was New Year's, but not sure I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone - certainly plenty of other choices in Gaslamp District.
Went for New Year's Eve. Excellent food for excellent price. Great service "on time". We had never been there before but were absolutely 100% satisfied
I have to preface this review with the fact that my visit took place on New Years Eve; this is a particularly busy time in the Gaslamp, and can affect even the best spots.
That said, our NYE excursion to this storied downtown spot was not quite on par with the fine reputation of this wood and red-leather adorned steakhouse. I made reservations for our group at 7:15, which were not honored upon arrival. This is simply inexcusable to me, especially at a location that sports a $100+ per person menu. We were actually seated after a walk-in group (who apparently knew someone), at 7:40. I'm not a big complainer, but this was absolutely unacceptable to me. Not rookies here, dressed in evening formal, and left to freeze by the open door with the rest of the walk-ins.
After being seated, (at an excellent table I might add, with great views of the many examples of original artwork), we were warmly greeted by Brittany, who turned out to be one of the highlights of the evening; kind, professional and capable, she made the evening must better, right away.
The NYE menu was a Prix Fixe, $99 deal, which included an appetizer, salad, main course and dessert. The appetizers were tasty, although my Caesar salad was wilted and warm. The steaks were all very well cooked, and properly seasoned, although my ribeye was a bit gristly around the edges. Good steaks, although not up to Fleming's or even Donovan's level. I would put the grill here on par with Greystone. Good, but nothing I couldn't do on my own barbecue, after a few cold ones and some salt and pepper.
Overall I liked this historic spot... But the food and service, while good, were simply not up to the $400 check for 3.
A slightly qualified recommendation, based on their inability to honor a simple group of 3 reservation, but the food is of good quality and the ambience is worth a trip alone.
Busy New Year's Eve night but the bartenders, waiters and manager were all on their toes. All the employees truly care about the quality of their service and the manager truly wants to hear your meal was the best! I visit this restaurant at least twice a month for happy hour as well. Thank you.
New Years Eve - our second time here and it doesn’t disappoint!!! It was a semi “fixed” menus for the evening but we made do. Great food and outstanding service !!!
Alesario was our waiter and he was awesome. Did NOT rush us at all. He was professional but very friendly and conversational, a true pleasure. The drinks are definitely pricey and NOT a heavy pour for the price but still a great evening if you want great food and great service.
Our waiter was attentive and helpful. The reservation was perfect and we got right in to our table. Food was incredible and the steak was cooked just right. Great experience!
Seriously the best steak restaurant we have eaten at. The staff was awesome. Great experience. Will definitely be back!!
Looking at the website, we had are expectations pretty high. It was a special night for us and Lou and Mickey's came through and exceeded our expectations.
Just ok - overpriced tourist spot.
The Ribeye was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The crabcake and the calamari were excellent as well. Unfortunately the sea bass lacked flakiness and was a bit mushy, but flavor was good. The portion seemed rather small. Maybe 6oz.
The staff was great and treated us well. Overall, a good dining experience!
In town for Northwestern Football Holiday Bowl
Excellent service and food. While visiting from east coast we ate at Lou & Mickey’s twice. On Friday, the GM stopped over chatted and ensured all was well. Today, chef Toure stopped over to say hello and ensure our meals were tasty. This restaurant cares about their customers, which will make us eat there again !
In no way cheap, but for that, it was what it was - a very memorable dinner on special occasion.
The waiter was very knowledgable, enjoyable and quick.
The food was simply excellent - from the crabcake and filet mignon bits to the chateaubriand, asparagus, broccoli or the linguini with clams and then creme brulee.
Fortunately it was just, what I expected/hoped for.
I have frequented this restaurant often, before baseball games and plays. It is my go to spot. I have never had a bad experience and will continue to come back. The food is always great. I would recommend it to my family and friends.
This restaurant is just OK. It's lovely inside and the ambiance is great but the prices are that of Mastro's and Ruths Chris but without the quality. Steak is expensive and bland. The shrimp was served on a bed of ice but limp. Didn't taste fresh. Creamed spinach came cold and we sent it back. The service was fabulous.
I think this restaurant is a business dinner place and the location is convenient for conventioneers. Many better picks for the money!!!!
This used to be one of our favorite steakhouses but we were very disappointed. First they brought hard, dried out bread, which was replaced when I complained. The wedge salad was blah. The “prime” ribeye, which used to be juicy and plump, was thin and not juicy. The baked potato was lukewarm at best. We were going to a show so couldn’t send things back, but we were disappointed.
Celebrated my sister's birthday here with 6 of us...all of us had meals that we really enjoyed. Very good perfectly cooked steaks and salmon. Wine list was good as well. Josh was our server and he couldn't have been more enjoyable if he tried...professional, prompt, polite and very nice to all of us. Hope to come back next time we visit San Diego!
Water wasn’t filled without repeated requests
Service was very slow
Steak was over cooked
My daughters dessert glass broke exposing jagged glass without an appropriate response from management
Just so so. Steaks were good but everything else was just marginal. Not worth the money.
The experience wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t what I would expect for San Diego in terms of food quality (especially the seafood) and price. We had so-so oysters that the server recommended as “great” and the shrimp was subpar. My wife and I split a large steak that was supposed to have been medium rare but was under cooked.
We celebrated my daughter’s 21st birthday & had a great time. The bar is great, the service & food were perfection! We had a wonderful time & look forward to returning.
Nora was our server and she was wonderful. She handled our large party very well and everything came out perfectly.
Discovered L&M's last September while in San Diego, took Amtrak to celebrate anniversary in November, totally worth the 1.5 hr train ride.
The Ribeye steak was barely an inch thick and a bit over done .
Great Place. Worth every penny. Always have a great meal and the service if phenomenal.
Great steakhouse with awesome seafood selection. Wine was great.
Had the 34 oz Chateau Briand and it was delicious!
Always a must when visiting San Diego. Great food, great service, great atmosphere
We love coming to Lou & Mickey’s when we stay in San Diego. The oysters and our dinner were fantastic, the drinks are great and the service is always wonderful.
I felt the waiter was a bit pushy about the tip. He mentioned it when he dropped off the bill and 20% was hand written on the bill. I've never been in another restaurant where I experienced this.
Amazing food. Amazing service. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had!
