L'Ottavo - San Francisco
Toasted bread with fresh tomatoes, virgin oil, garlic, basil and parmesan cheese
Bacon, mushrooms & peas in a light creamy tomato sauce
We went last night amid business closures and a failing tourist market from covid 19 precautions. However, they were kind enough to keep the restaurant open for us and we had the whole place to ourselves! They food and wine was excellent. Brought me right back to Italy!
I eaten at L’Ottavo and have never been disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant.
A great place to go for a quite meal before or after the theater.
I dined at L'Ottavo three times within two months. Our meals were delicious! We all enjoyed our meals . A great place for a celebration or a casual evening out with friends. I will be back!
This was a wonderful restaurant that we found within a couple blocks of our hotel. First time there and we will definitely be coming back. The crab soup with out of this world...and the fresh pasta delicious. We will definitely be returning.
Overpriced and underwhelming. Our pasta was fine but not special. Same could be said about the "special" salad. Our glasses of wine, however, were just not good. Felt like the kind of restaurant you would find in a tourist area--ok, but definitely not a gem.
Mistake that I Orders didn't taste good not even close to a normal one. And my wife order as spaghetti with pink sauce Was in creamy enough but Tasted ok...
Service was friendly but the food was overpriced. Bread was a thinly sliced soft white baguette reminiscent of Wonder Bread. Our bill for two plates of nondescript pasta and a bottle of room temp middling Italian wine was $25 less than two entrees, a delicious bottle of French wine, coffee and dessert at Greens with a view of the waterfront. Ridiculous. The place was empty on a Sunday night — that alone should have tipped us off.
Excellent service, warm ambience, romantic and really excellent food for great value. A gem of a place.
The Lasagna was amazing !
L'Ottavo's food and ambiance, along with our very attentive server, made us feel as though we were sitting in an Italian Grandmother's dining room. Every morsel of our meal was delightful. The bread was served warm with a crunchy crust. We thought their wine list was quite good as well. We both ordered Italian reds and were not disappointed. We had an event to get to at the Marine's Memorial Hotel. Finding this little gem just up the street was perfect in every way. We will return!!
Very friendly staff who seated us a few minutes before their opening. The staff were fantastic at making us feel comfortable. The pasta was excellent!
Great place before the theater
Great service. Very nice waitress. I had the speghettini primavera and there were plenty of delicious vegetables. Cooked perfectly.
We had an early dinner here before Hamilton. The beef capaccio was YUMMY. My companion had the minestrone soup. So hearty and flavorfull. The house red wine was perfect. Reminded me of table wines we had in Italy. We split the bolognese entree. The pasta was fresh and the meat sauce flavorful. L'Ottavo was a great choice.
Nice house made pasta. Very sensible flavoring, just what we hoped to get - solid pasta!
Perfect experience for us. Between Part I and Part II of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Curran.
Food was solid and we left satisfied. One of us is vegetarian so pasta offered plenty of variety. The room was quiet enough for conversation and service was quick and smooth. We enjoyed it very much.
Enjoyed the bruschetta and the Moscato. I ordered the steak. It was good but I wish I ordered pasta. I would go back for sure.
Small restaurant, great service great food. Thanks
The pasta was yummy
Will return. Nice spot, friendly staff, good food.
I must say I was dissapointed. The food was mediocre at best. Service was fine. Sat at a table that had a huge missing paint chip on the wall. Won't go back. Cannot recommend.
We've been going here for many years (over 30!) and are always very happy to return. Of course the staff has changed over the years, but the friendly professionalism remains. And the food is consistantly great!
Food and service was great and good value
On the basis of food quality, this place was great. But the service and hospitality left much to be desired. I made my reservation through Opentable, for 5 people at 9:30pm. For what it’s worth, they offered reservations as late as 10pm. At 8:40pm the restaurant called me to confirm my reservation, then asked if we could arrive earlier - “maybe 9:15?” I told them most of my party was seeing a show (two blocks away) which didn’t let out until 9:20, but we’d come right over as soon as they were done. We arrived at 9:23. At 9:24 they asked for our drink order. At 9:27 they asked if we’d decided on our meals, and informed us we’d also have to order our dessert and/or coffee right then and there as well, if we wanted any. Our food (which again, was quite tasty) arrived by 9:50. We tried to enjoy ourselves, but at 10:10, without prompting, our check was delivered. By 10:20, we were getting unfriendly glances from nearly every employee who passed our table. Look, I get what a drag it can be when people show up at a restaurant minutes before closing time. But we didn’t just wander in there at 9:55. We made a reservation at a time they offered. If you’re going to rudely rush a group through their meal and act like we’ve inconvenienced you with our presence, don’t offer reservations that late. But hey, the pasta was good.
Second time here, good value but not great food. Pasta was a little sweet not very authentic. Had the snapper special and was mediocre. We had 4 different dishes and two salads and nobody was wowed or disappointed but expected better.
Authentic fresh pasta and cozy atmosphere.
A little overcrowded but very popular even early on Saturday (5pm). Service was wonderful and specials fairly priced
Food and service was excellent. Very generous wine pour by the glass. Highly recommend!!
Excellent service! Excellent service!
Great food and good location to the JWMarriott. Wonderful and attentive service. Our pasta's were all good and nice wine list too! Small and on the quiteier side but we enjoyed our evening.
Seafoods did not seem fresh. Pasta was excellent. Waitress was very friendly.
Always a wonderful dinner and great service. Very accommodating!
Bruschetta Appetizer with mushrooms was fair. Caesar salad was lukewarm. Think it sat awhile before getting to our table. Tomato Sauce on chicken dish was quite good. Husbands veal was tough. Generous pour of wines by the glass.
Quiet place on this Tuesday night - but delicious food, attentive but not intrusive service, and a great price point. A gem of a little place easily walked from our hotel at Union Square. Very happy we found this place!!
This is a small place, rather intimate, with terrific food and service. We had a terrific dinner and enjoyed the ambiance and service.
Excellent food, service and ambience. What more can I say?!
Pleasant service and good food at a convenient location close to Union Square.
Very cozy restaurant. Our service was good. Enjoyed traditional veal Parm and the pasta was cooked perfectly. I would definitely return on my next trip to San Francisco.
There were 10 of us, celebrating a wedding earlier in the day! I had made reservations well in advance so was a little surprised that there was only one server in the whole restaurant. It slowed things down but the food was fabulous and the ambiance was perfect. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family.
