Fantastically good overall. Absolutely in the running for the top restaurant in Richmond. I've been to pretty much all of them. On the pricey side, but worth it. It's Michelin star-worthy.

Hands down L’OPOSSUM is my favorite restaurant in Richmond, Virginia. David Shannon and his amazing staff make every dining experience an amazing one. The food is beyond your wildest dreams snd the handcrafted cocktails are just amazing. The presentation of the plated dinners is picture perfect. David, as always thank you for making our anniversary so very special. Those desserts just topped it off with perfection. Touché

Definitely a unique experience. Fantastically cool environment. Wait staff and bar tender were very attentive. Crab cakes and Filet were out of this world delicious. Oysters were good. Foie Gras was overly salted, thin, flat, and so tiny. Not worth the price at all. Next time we visit, we will skip that. Otherwise, a positive experience.

My husband and I had heard great things about L’Opossum from several different people and it definitely lived up to our expectations! The atmosphere in the restaurant is almost like a speakeasy, and the food was some of the best we have had in Richmond to this date. We will definitely be back!

The new chicken dish featuring a Sherry cream beets, and a cherry emotion is out of this world. Susan, server extraordinaire, was magical, helpful, funny, and a delight to add to the whole experience. Austin and Will are also always around to enhance the experience… No doubt the best restaurant in the south, if not one in the country.

great food, decor, drinks and service. The playlist/music was wonderful too. We'll be back. The escargot appetizer was unique and tasty, and the chicken entree was so unusual and surprising. My husband had softshell crab and was thrilled. Can't miss with the French Tickler as your opening for the evening cocktail!

When we arrived, the hostess was very welcoming and gave us a booth, which we had requested. Our waitress almost immediately poured our water and asked if we’d like something to drink. We each had an unusual but delicious hors d’oeuvres. We each had the crab cake entree. It was delicious! We understand why this restaurant is so popular. It checks every box and spells WONDERFUL!!

Our 25th anniversary was celebrated here. The casual ambiance was excellent, the waitress was very knowledgeable and attentive, and the food was outstanding. Everything, from the appetizer to the desserts, was of a very high quality. We would definitely patronize this restaurant for special occasions in the future.

This was an excellent restaurant for our one night in Richmond. The food, service, drinks, everything was excellent. It was also very well priced for a super high end restaurant. Highly recommend for both dates and groups under 6.

Our expectations were high after reading many good reviews of the food and the service. The reality was very different. The food seemed to be trying too hard to be different and didn’t turn out very well and the service was not only nothing special but cold and minimal. If the food and service had been good, then the decor would probably have felt okay. As it was, it was just disappointing overall.

Everything about our visit was exceptional! Each time I have dined here, I leave feeling as though it is truly the best meal I have ever enjoyed; this time was no exception. The foie gras slider blew my mind! We even decided to get 3 desserts because we couldn’t fathom sharing only 2. My only regret is not having more room in my stomach to try everything. Thanks for making every visit the best!

Atmospheric. Big on Attitude. Dark. Edgy. Love it or Hate it. DARK! Think walking into a movie theatre just as the lights go down, from bright summer day outside at noon. No windows. Black drapes inside the door. Cave-like. The whole place is edgy, quirky, eccentric - choose your adjective. From music selection to art. Could be a speakeasy. On a corner in a residential neighborhood, impossible to be believe that the unmarked dark door belongs to a restaurant. A place for romantic trysts. These aspects are more memorable than the food, which is nonetheless very good. Everything we had was very good, including a special drink (Homage to Barbie) and desserts (Chocolate Mort). Likely the most innovative food in Richmond, which is not a gastronomic playground. To my taste, a few too many ingredients and trying too hard - some successful, some less so. Mixing haute French cuisine with down-home hillbilly fare, hence the name L’Opossum. Moderate value. $350 for 4 people. Quirkiness extended to our waitress, who was abrupt, cold, and off-putting, but nonetheless very knowledgeable about the food and all of its varied - and quirky - ingredients. Had to ask for salt and pepper. We were told repeatedly in a dismissive way that “We prefer that you order everything at once,” when we asked to order apps while we considered the unusual menu. Not allowed, apparently. We got two calls 30 seconds apart at 6:18pm to ask where we were. (Reservation was for 6:15pm.) I said that we were on our way right then. That wasn’t good enough. The caller said: “NO, WHERE ARE YOU?” I gave her my coordinates (Belvidere and Spring Streets , 2 blocks away). She reckoned that that might be ok, just barely. We walked in 2 minutes later, at 6:20pm.

Outstanding food - best steak, I’ve ever had and the port reduction sauce blew my mind. Shauna was our waitress and she was awesome. Would highly recommend - long wait for reservations so get ahead of that !

The food was amazing and for me to get to dessert and be given the proper utensil (dessert fork) instead of a soup spoon to eat a lovely dessert was perfect. That tells me that they know food and how to present it so the guest can enjoy all of their hard work.

Received a gift card from friends so decided to try it. Heard lots of great things about this place and it didn't dissapoint. The ambience was dark and cozy with a speakeasy vibe. The food was delicious (had the tenderloin and crabcakes) and the presentation was very elegant. We sat at the bar and found the Bartender, Sam, to be very nice and attentive. Will definitely be back. One tip: This small, popular venue fills up fast. Make your reservations well in advance!
