I celebrated my birthday here on Friday night and was absolutely blown away! I had the 7 course tasting menu with the wine pairing. It was one of the best pairings I have ever had. Not all chefs can pair wine with food so expertly. The food alone was so thoughtfully and beautifully presented. The grilled cheese course was life changing. Also it was a lot of food for the price. It was by far one of the most magical birthdays I have ever had and hope to spend many more at Localis!
Had the tasting menu and was highly impressed
Wen there for my 40th and had a wonderful dinner. I love that they offer 1/2 glasses of wine. We ate too much because everything was so great. The octopus was AMAZING!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary and the staff were very accommodating with some special requests. The food is absolutely fantastic and beautifully presented. We like to sit at the counter to be in the mix of things and interact with the chefs. This is especially fun when you do the tasting menu as several dishes are served right over the counter by the executive chef with a thorough description. The wine pairing was very well done also. Definitely recommend the tasting menu. The only drawback is that it seems a bit overpriced relative to other high end restaurants in town. This is the only thing that keeps us from visiting more than once a year. Nonetheless, this one one of the best restaurants in town and well worth a visit. We will be back. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
We have dined here many times and have always loved it...until now. We eat out a LOT and are very much "foodies." The first issue was we were seated 40 minutes past our reservation time of 8:45 and not offered a cocktail or drink while we waited. I tried many times to get someone's attention. Finally at 9:30 we were seated at the very tail end of the bar near the front door when there appeared to be tables available and our original reservation was for the dining room. The first gnocchi dish was flat-out NOT good. The mushrooms, potatoes and gnocchi all tasted EXACTLY the same and were almost impossible to differentiate from each other and had zero flavor. The gnocchi was very tough and dry. I get that it was whole wheat but not a good choice to use.
The second course, the grilled octopus was not good either. It was very slimy and had a strange "film" on it. The next course was ceviche and had a great flavor and textures but had WAY too much white curry sauce on the dish which overpowered it. The entrees were much better but took FOREVER to arrive. The halibut did not seem fresh and was rubbery, not flaky and tender like halibut should be. The pappardelle was very good but very simple and with no real "sauce" although it had a good flavor and was well seasoned. Lastly, it was very frustrating that we had to refill our own wine glasses and not once did the server come by to refill them for us. We had a bottle of white wine and were not given an ice bucket which would have been nice. The server did apologize for the long wait but overall we were extremely disappointed with this dining experience and probably won't be back.
This was our 5th time in the last 3 yrs - 3 of of those times were birthday celebrations. This our spot for celebrations and fine dining.
The flavor of the food was great, however, I do not recommend the tasting menu if you have food allergies as you will not get the full experience. While I understood the menu was going to be updated to accommodate if provided 24 hours notice, the items were just removed from the dish and not replaced (including the entire protein from the last dish before dessert). You would be better served ordering from the a la carte menu, which looked just as great as the full tasting menu.
Great tasting menu with staff that is attentive and customer service oriented. Chef Chris is amazing with his flavor pairing, presentation and overall excellence in providing a culinary experience every time we dine with Localis.
Beautiful and inventive entree’s. I can’t wait to go back!
A definite Must! We frequent this place , Top quality innovative creative cuisine Worthy of michelin stars! Set in a very chill relax setting very friendly the chef greets you every time⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
First time to restaurant. Service was attentive and team oriented so we never felt we ignored and no wait time. Tasting menu was delicious and wine paired nicely. Table was small and felt a bit tight in the space. It was not too busy so noise level was not bad but could be loud if the place was full. Love the neighborhood vibe! Would recommend to friends and colleagues for night out. A must do for “foodies”!
The chef is creative and uses lots of different seasonal ingredients. However I question the need for potatoes or additional starch (like parsnips) in a pasta dish. Great service from the wait staff team.
The food was really good, the service was ok. I wished the courses were described a bit more, as well as the inspiration behind them. Additionally, why the pairings were the way they were. "The chef really likes this wine" is not a very gastronomical reason to have a pairing. For over $450, I expected a genuine educational culinary experience.
Enjoyed the tasting menu. The courses were interesting and delicious. We enjoyed that the chef pushes the envelope a bit. Presentation was lovely. The Halibut dish was amazing, and the chef’s sorbets are exceptional. The wines weren’t our favorite, but wine is really a matter of personal preference. The restaurant gets noisy when it is full of people. Great place for a bit of food exploration and enjoyable evening. Our service was quite good.
Birthday celebration! Counter seating was amazing. Food was delicious. Loved the staff. Definitely will be back.
Our go to date night spot. Always amazed at the complexity of the dishes. Making our next reservation now!
Localis was a great spot for dinner. Came here with my wife and 4 month old kid for our announcement dinner. Very pleased with the fact that they were so accommodating with us bringing a baby. Not a lot of high end restaurants like having infants.
Great food. Amazing service.
Delicious pasta & bread with an amazing French Chardonnay chef recommended!
Amazing service and delicious food. I highly recommend a date night here with your loved one or best friend!
Incredible, as always. Great job, Chef. Looking forward to next time.
Excellent menu and service. Can’t worry to go back
It was amazing!
Excellent dining experience. Best in Sacramento. Food and drinks were top notch. Service was great.
Amazing! My colleague and I ordered several items and each item was delicious. She commented that someone puts a lot of pride and love into making the food. The only complaint I had is the octopus took forever to come out. I inquired and a few minutes later they claimed they needed to redo it because it was grilled longer than they would have liked. When it did finally come out, it was...amazing.
From the amuse bouchée to lovely little bite at the end the tasting menu was amazing.
Thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.
So hoping we will back in Sacramento again soon so that we can visit this lovely gem again.
Chef Barnum-Dunn certainly earned his Michelin Plate and Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. Not only was the food beautifully plated and pleasing to the eye, the 5 courses were unique and tasted phenomenal. We ordered the octopus which was not part of the 5 course and it was cooked to perfection.
The wine pairings accentuated each course and paired perfectly. I highly recommend Localis for a very unique dining experience no matter the occasion. The service was excellent and the wait staff was both attentive and very knowledgeable about the food and wines. Needless to say I will definitely return to Localis for their outstanding food and service.
I just love localis! The service, food and atmosphere are beyond excellent! Thank you for always making my visits a memorable and fun one!
I’d been wanting to try Localis for a while, so we took the family for my birthday. Everything was delicious! We started with the cheese and charcuterie plate - the best cheese was Humboldt Fog, which was like a super creamy Brie with a bite of blue cheese..
For entrees, we had the market fish, which was salmon, and it was perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked with crispy skin just the way I like it. My mom’s capellini was fresh and herby, and my daughter cleaned her bowl of coctel de mariscos.
We tried two desserts- brioche donuts with coffee gelato and peach panna cotta - which were both amazing. Best coffee gelato I’ve had. Now I wish we’d also tried the cheese plate bc I just reread the description and saw figs and blue cheese ice cream. Guess we’ll just have to go back.
I work as a chef at Gaggan (the best restaurant in the asia and we got no.4 restaurants in the world) i feel disappointed about localis because the foods are low standard, too high price and too little creativity. Servicer and food runners worked not personnel work unhappy. No manners before coming to serve food. And see no professionalism in service. So i feel very sad about my terrible experience because i spend time 3 hours to drove from nevada to had dinner there. I hope my feedback will be useful for you. Thnaks a lot
Located in a house in a nice part of downtown. Very noisy, not comfortable. Service sloppy. Food mediocre. Would not go back.
Localis is our favorite restaurants in Sacramento. When I travel for business or pleasure, I always search for the top 10 restaurants in the area so great food is a must. I rank Localis as one of the best restaurants in all of Sacramento for the amazing food and service.
Came here to celebrate my friend’s new house. We were seated at the counter which I always enjoy. Multiple people congratulated my friend which was so thoughtful. Dinner was amazing: octopus never disappoints, tapas were good, summer capellini was delicious, and my friend had the daily fish which I tried and was quite good. Peach dessert was so refreshing and good. Service is always exceptional, and 3 hours later we left with full bellies and smiles. Love love love Localis and Chef Chris & his wonderful team.
Had a reservation for my girlfriend's birthday and instantly from the time we walked in everyone on staff came by. Chef was amazing food was super great. Octopus was out of this world! Great job Chris
I always love coming to Localis. Great for business dinners.
if you haven't eaten here yet, get off your phone and get in yr car right effen now. best restaurant in sac, most creative, daring, delicious food anywhere.
Fantastic flavors, unexpected combinations and wonderful wine pairings from the chef’s tasting menu. Phenomenal food! Very knowledgeable wait staff and quite friendly, too
I’ve never been to an upscale restaurant where the staff was so friendly and professionally, but yet warmly engaged in their interactions with the diners. We sat near on the barstool seating in front of the kitchen. We were blown away with how calm the kitchen staff was despite the restaurant being full. Very organized and the outgoing dishes were clean and beautifully garnished. I had the Chef Tasting menu and it was amazing. Also, the timing of every dish was perfect and gave my girlfriend and I time to have conversation and enjoy our wine.
This place is perfect for a casual upscale meal, date night, or special occasion. I am very impressed and can’t wait for their late summer menu tasting menu to come out!
This is my second time here, and has become my favorite restaurant in Sacramento. I love the food, the creativity shown, and the attentiveness of the staff. I highly recommend!!
10/10 would smash again
I took my best friend who was visiting for the weekend here and we had a great meal. The chefs and wait staff were all so attentive and nice. The food was beyond amazing. I will definitely plan on returning here for future special occasions.
