We love everything about Local.
Service was very slow but picked up. The salmon was VERY overcooked. We ordered one well, one medium and one medium rare. They were all well done—disappointing. The veggies, however, were quite good. They were out of their chicken dish, on Saturday night at 6:30!
I was really disappointed with our dining experience, after reading such great reviews. This was a pre-theatre dinner date with my husband on a Saturday night. Not crowded, but seated next to a loud “double date.” My husband’s food was so salty he could barely eat it. And, the wine list was rather pricey for what I consider average food.
OUTSTANDING in ALL FACETS. The BEST dining experience and vibe in all of Deep Ellum. Chef and her Team provided perfectly prepared food - fresh and beautifully presented. Highly recommend as pre-concert / pre-event dining experience for Deep Ellum, Downtown Dallas, and Fair Park areas. Thank You to the entire team for a wonderful evening.
The food can’t make up for the dreadful staff. I was sorry to put our server out by being there and asking questions about food and beverage. Super slow kitchen too. I’d never eat here again.
I really love this place and we go for special occasions. This time no one answered the phone after repeated attempts at a reservation. Finally we made a reso online. When we walked in there was no on to greet us. We stood at the front door for 3-5 minutes waiting for a hostess that never arrived. When someone finally seated us, it was in a quiet, dull area away from most of the action. Our waitress was surly and not at all helpful. We had recommended this place to our friends that we were out with and we were almost embarrassed by the experience. So sad to see the decline in this place. The food was good but not remarkable. I think the lack of liquor license is an issue. Not sure we will be back :( ever.
This restaurant has been around for years. Menu looked good online. There was almost no one there when we arrived for 715 reservation after paying $10 to park across the street. The wine list by the glass is very limited and I did not like the Sauvignon Blanc.
The food was pricy. We asked for what we did not finish, including several ounces of a filet, to be boxed. They don’t do “to go” food.
Two of the guests ordered burgers. The waitress did not ask how they wanted them cooked and when they ordered medium rare, it was irrelevant because they arrived well done.
The “tater tots” and hush puppies were not good.
This place won’t be around much longer.
I live nearby and hadn't visited for several months, sat at the bar-thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Wil and had a wonderful meal.
We have been going to Local for many years. We took out of state clients there Tuesday evening and it was perfect and the client loved it.
Love this place. Food is inventive and reasonable.
Second time here and can’t wait to go back
Our evening at Local restaurant was delightful. Every aspect was carefully crafted by the staff.
The atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable. The music was just loud enough, I hate when I go somewhere and have to fight the music to be heard or to hear. The green bean appetizer is a MUST as well as their margarita. We ordered the scallops, sea bass and short ribs. Everything was flavorful and delicious. One special quality that stood out about the food was it was served hot - temperature hot. I feel like most places you go the food is warm....but everything was just the perfect temperature. It may seem silly to point this out but it really made a difference! Oh, and the warm nut mixture they serve while you wait was amazing too! The food comes out at a slow pace, but not in a bad way. So if you are in a hurry keep that in mind. I would definitely recommend Local and will be back!
Service was very poor and food was not great.
We decided to come to Local for my husband's birthday dinner and we are glad we did. The food is amazing. We both got the chef's tasting menu and everything on it was delicious. The first course was a tomato soup which was pretty good (and I usually don't like tomato soup) but the mini-grilled cheese that went with it was amazing. My husband said it was basically a religious experience to eat that grilled cheese. The meat and seafood were all cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The chef herself came out a few times to see how we were doing. Overall it was a great experience. We plan on making this our place for celebratory dinners.
Food was excellent. Seasonal and very tasty. Good Deep Ellum location with designated parking lot. Chef stopped by our table which is always nice. Our wait person was very disinterested in us. Detracted from dining experience. Everyone has a bad day so will give her the benefit of the doubt. One individual poor waiter should not keep you away from this place.
This is our favorite restaurant for dinner in Dallas. Everything is just superb. Most restaurants do one thing well...they either have great cocktails or great entrees or great appetizers but usually not all of the above. Local gets it all right - every course is amazing. We always leave wanting to come back the next day!
Very nice experience. Ate solo and pretty early on a Friday night, so for me it was a nice, quiet experience. Great experience overall. I’m vegetarian and they put something together for me off the menu that was more interesting than a grilled veggie plate that many places do. Service was attentive and responsive, but there was only one other table when I was there. Nice selection of wines. Also amuse bouche and lots of little things that made it a very elevated treat. Would definitely come back if I’m in Dallas again any time soon.
Very poor experience. Was surprised as I was looking forward to a nice night with friends. 8:15p reservations. We ordered 2 bottles of wine, didn’t receive them until 9p. Had to find a server to finally place our order. Placed it at 9:30p, food still had not arrived until 10:20p. No server ever came to explain what was wrong or try to order to sell us another bottle wine. Finally as food arrived, 1 steak was very over cooked and 1 person didn’t even get her food. The server claimed they didn’t hear the order which makes you think why wouldn’t the server expect a person to not eat. Then our check is finally brought over and nothing was taken care of or no apology. I spoke with the server who was understanding but they had to go “talk to the owner”
If they were to take anything off. They did take off 2 bottles of wine. It was more just the lack of explanation and basic server skills that was surprising. Also why wasn’t this “owner” around on the floor truly helping the team who clearly needed. The table across from us walked out due to lack of service. Overall very strange and disappointing.
The service was slow and food took two hours. Food was overcooked and flavorless.
It was very quiet at first, and we were seated directly next to the only other person in the dining room so we felt like we couldn’t talk to each other without it being awkward. Eventually the dining room filled out and it was a more comfortable volume, but I would say that if you have fewer people there it is more comfortable to give them some space initially. Loved the food, and the charm of the building. Classy giving an amuse bouche to start the meal, and small shortbread cookies at the end of the meal.
Excellent food and loved the wine pairings with the chef's tasting menu. Will definitely come back!
We were a large party of seven and war treated very professionally, given a quieter area which was perfect and our server was excellent. Food was superb as usual and we had a wonderful time. I just wish it were not in deep Elim! Hard to get to from North Dallas. But I will continue to come anyway!
Our party of 4 enjoyed every dish tried. Everything was flavorful and beautifully presented. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere for talking and appreciated the lack of loud music and big screen TVs. I always bring a sweater due to the frigid temps in most dallas restaurants. No need for an extra wrap....The room temperature was very comfortable. We loved the historic nature of this old hotel. Thank you to the chef and staff for a wonderful experience!!
Excellent food and service. The tasting menu provides a great opportunity to sample many of their dishes.
The restaurant was not full for a Saturday night. The wait staff was not friendly. The food was good but expensive.
Wine selection was good.
Amazing, delicious food! Awesome restaurant for a special occasion. Very cool little bar as well!
Food was spectacular! Service was good (not excellent), which was a little disappointing considering we were the ONLY people sitting at a table (3 people were eating at the bar at 7p on a Thursday). Though the drink menu was VERY limited, the drink I had was delightful.
I wish someone had introduced us to the place, the history of it...and I wish our waitress had talked to us more, explained what to expect or led our experience a bit more. This is not a place for a normal night out for us...and I felt a bit like we were expected to know everything.
The food was everything I hoped for! Every bite was flavorful and delicious! It felt like fancy home cooking!
The space was cozy and warm even though we sat together on the booth looking out at the room, it felt slightly private. You could, however, hear everyone’s conversations.
For another special occasion, I would definitely dine with Local again.
The service, ambiance and food was excellent. The server made great suggestions of wine pairings with our orders. The Salmon was exquisite. I highly recommend this place.
Our meal at Local was delicious! We will definitely be returning!
Great experience from the moment we sat to the time we left. Food, service, atmosphere - all great!
Always great experience here from top to bottom!
Great place for a date..!! Highly recommend the food and the staff are great.!!
Excellent experience, amazing service and great food.
Went there on a date night with my wife. We had the tasting menu and really enjoyed both the food and the service. All the staff worked together to make it a fun and memorable experience and made sure that the food was delivered piping hot. Only downside was the lack of a full bar (wine and beer only).
One of my all time favorites in Dallas. Never disappointing in the quality of the food. The Champagne drink is amazing. Great place to run in early and then jump over to enjoy a show at the music hall.
Such great food! This restaurant is definitely worth the trip into Dallas. Sit at the bar and enjoy your cocktails and dinner with Will, the bartender.
I would absolutely recommend Local.
We have been to Local well over a dozen times and really enjoyed our meal last week. Since it was before a show, it was very quiet and the service very attentive. I had never had the burger, and decided to give it a shot. It was great and cooked just right. My wife had the Sea Bass. Very well prepared, but the portion seemed smaller than in the past. It gave us room for desert- where we had the spice cake and coffee (which is always great).
I love this place. Wonderful people, amazing food, and timeless environment.
