Live Sushi Bar
A fantastic spot. Delicious, reasonably priced, and excellent service. Can't say enough good things about Live Sushi
We absolutely love Live Sushi! The food is great and the service is even better! They are sooooo kid friendly! With two young kids, that’ll keep me coming back.
Love live sushi I can’t believe I had never dined here before 100000% coming back
Best sushi in city
Small, low key, unassuming neighborhood place, not gorgeous interior, but fine. Sushi was really shockingly good. We'd read the reviews but didn't really feel confident when we walked in. But everything was fantastic, and we have all eaten sushi in Japan and in some of the most high end places around US. We will be back soon!
Top notch menu and sake selection. Can’t wait to go back to try more of their exotic rolls/apps.
This place was pretty good. A lot of fried roll options which i tend to stay away from cause I dont feel like it sushi. The nigiri was average and the best thing we probably got was the Romeo and Juliet roll. I felt like the water/ water glasses smelled like fish which was unpleasant.
Finally checked this place out, probably 15 years since I first heard of it. It was hit-or-miss.
* Pretty cute space, kinda mom-n-pop, not fancy, kinda rustic
* They treated our 4-year-old and 1-year-old kids exceptionally well
* Bergschneider roll with unagi, salmon and avocado was on point
* Hamachi sashimi was delicious
* Edamame was nicely seasoned, salted through
* Short rib teriyaki appetizer was super yummy
* The Live Sushi Combo was almost forgettable except the terrible white sashimi, I have no idea what fish it was, but it was the most flavorless watery sponge I've ever tasted. I don't know why they served it. The salmon sashimi was also just so incredibly bland. And then of the 7 nigiri, 2 were maguro and 2 were albacore. Wtf! I order the combo to get a *combination* of fishes, not 4 tunas!!
* The ikura nigiri was salty and fishy but lacked the juiciness and sweetness of a good ikura. My kids usually love ikura and they wouldn't eat this, and I could see why.
Overall I'd go back but just do the cooked items and the fancy rolls, maybe the hamachi if I wanted some unadulterated fish.
Definitely trust the chefs here. Anything in the Specials is super yummy. The standard menu is also executed to perfection. A favorite go-to in SF.
Food was solid and the sushi was fresh. Just want I like a neighborhood sushi joint.
Had an amazing experience here for a work dinner with clients. Will definitely be coming back!
Consistently good sushi.
Wonderful variety of fish. Great specials. Fantastic service.
Sushi quality was definitely above par. Will be returning!
Best fish, best sushi chefs and friendliest wait staff
A local favorite! Sushi is delicious. It may not have an amazing look & feel inside but the sushi is excellent!
Everything was really good. Just be patient, well worth the wait, the food took forever. Would come back, and I would highly recommend.
All great as always!
My 3 year old son and I loves this place. It’s our neighborhood dining restaurant. Liz and the staff are so accommodating every visit. My son loves the shrimp chip and the Bento Box. Good way for him to try new menu items - gyoza, salmon (filet salmon is smaller portion now).
Good food, friendly service, comfortable atmosphere, though never did bring me the hot green tea I ordered. I’d go back again.
Live has amazing food. Kinda pricey, but totally worth it if you want great sushi.
This is the second time at Live Sushi. Our experience this time was not as good as the first. I had a friend ask to tag along so our reservation was changed from 4 to 5 people. When we were seated at 6pm, my friend had to sit in a chair in the aisle. There seemed to be only one waiter and the restaurant was filling pretty quickly as it was Saturday evening. Our waiter, I’m sure did the best they could do, but we had to request water and then wait for what seemed like a very long time to get any of our food. It finally started coming slowly and it was very good. More help seemed to finally arrive and our waiter asked if we would like to order more food. I told him we had still not received a 20 PCS nigiri chefs choice tray. He left, and then came back and said we’d alrea gotten it. I explained that he was mistaken, and eventually the tray made it to our table. We ordered one more roll and it seemed like a very long wait for it as well. The food was excellent, but being understaffed on a weekend, having to sit in the aisle, and a lot of waiting did not make this the best experience. We will come again and hope for a better night.
Great fish. Quality is high
Servers are friendly and courteous
Great neighborhood sushi joint. Quality of food way above average
Hate to write this review of what was our go-to spot in SF for excellent sushi but fellow diners should be aware. We arrived on time for our reservation and were promptly greeted and seated.
After about five minutes which is totally acceptable, we placed our order with the waitress; this was the last we would see of her.
Nearly 30 minutes after having been seated (25 to be exact) no drinks were delivered; no water, no tea, no wine. When the sushi chef began serving our order, I stopped him and said we hadn't gotten any drinks yet. Instead of apologizing and tracking down our waitress, he barley acknowledged me and proceeded to prepare the to go order in his plastic container. Our waitress was busy in the back packing up other to go orders...That was it for me, we left, for good.
What's the rational for ignoring your walk in clientele in favor of take out? I'm flabbergasted.
It was our first time here and the food was excellent. I really love that they had the uni shooters!! My fav!
The food was delicious. Only thing is we made the mistake of getting the assorted sashimi plate which is way more expensive than most places, at $40 for 16 pieces. Other than that, everything was reasonably priced and delicious
We always enjoy Live Sushi. Try the improbably named "Bergschneider Roll" which is great.
They could hire another server to help with busy holidays. Service was slow, but food was amazing. The Walu is a must try...mmm so buttery it melts in your mouth.
Nice neighborhood sushi place. Dinner was very affordable. Lovers' boat is a good deal, though the sashimi tastes best with a healthy amount of soy sauce and wasabi. Rolls are affordable. Not bad at all!
Amazing quality fresh ingredients.
Live Sushi Bar is SO GOOD. It's my go-to for Sushi for years. Always fresh and delicious
The food was great and the service was outstanding.
Food was good. We were seated at the “kids section” although I stated it was for our anniversary celebration on reservation. There were 5/6 tables of kids in a sushi restaurant which was surprising. Maybe it was because they had bento box special for dinner .
We have been coming here for many years. The sushi is always good quality. However, the service has taken a turn to terrible. This time, appetizers and main courses arrived in random order. The servers kept bringing things on overly large dishes and basically just dumping stuff on our table, even though there was no room. We felt mega-rushed by the service. We are considering not coming back. There are other places in the city with good sushi, reasonable prices, and good service.
We went there for lunch to celebrate my birthday and the quality of the food was excellent! I lived in Japan and traveled there frequently for business and I was impressed with the quality of the sushi. The complimentary mochi ice cream dessert was greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Consistently one of my favorite sushi restaurants in SF! The quality is always great and the sushi combo order is a great value.
Delicious sushi. Good vibe. Great service.
Loved the food, it's pricy but not crazy and worth every penny.
Wasn't a fan of the screaming babies, but what can ya do...
Food was great, as usual. No water, had to waive the server down for every single request - wasn’t even busy.
