Lineage, in Brookline, serves rustic, contemporary American cuisine with an emphasis on New England-style seafood dishes, served in its charming and relaxing restaurant. The spicy lobster tacos with avocado mousse and mango salsa and the creamy mushroom and parsnip soup with brioche crouton make sensational starters. Some of Lineage's specialty seafood entrée dishes include the Nantucket Bay scallops with potato gnocchi and grilled fennel, the pan roasted Ipswich cod with homemade bacon and green onion and the pan seared striped bass with tasso ham and roasted cauliflower. If you are more in the mood for turf rather than surf dishes, the grilled flat iron steak in red wine sauce with brown butter potatoes and the oak roasted Bell & Evans chicken breast with polenta and smoked mushrooms are perfectly prepared.

For a sweet end to your meal, try Lineage's Sparrow Arc Farm carrot cake with rum ice cream.

I am crying at Lineage closes for good this w/end. I am going to miss Amy more than words can say and the talented chef and staff. I love this Brookline gem and tears are flowing.

We really enjoyed our meal at Lineage. The halibut was amazing. Try the lobster tacos!

My wife and I have been constant guests of Lineage since it opened. We live in Brookline within walking distance of Lineage and so have made it our go-to local restaurant. Now that the owners have announced they are closing, it is bittersweet to reflect on how consistent and wonderful this restaurant has been. In ten years I can honestly report that I have never had an entrée that was not perfectly prepared, and I mean perfectly, not just outstandingly. The Sewalls' forte is seafood but their deft touch applies as well to their chicken, flat iron steak, and even their signature hamburger. Man o Man, am I going to miss this place, where we were always received, especially by Manager Amy Audette but by the entire staff, as if we were family.
At every feature a restaurant can exhibit, Lineage has excelled; and now (in July) it is not only the fact its days are numbered that should drive you to this diamond among restaurant gems, it is also adhering to its traditional July practice of making the entirety of its eclectic wine list half price. Run, don't walk, to Lineage.

Very sad that this is the last month for Lineage. Get there if you can before they close. Creative menu, very good wines, nice atmosphere.

This restaurant is closing at the end of this month, and it's just as well. The food, the staff, even the menu all seem tired. Fried chicken was fair; shrimp was overcooked. The black rice was good; the salad was uninspired, though at least the greens were fresh. There were lies--er, shall we say, inaccuracies--on the wine list, so check your bottle against what you actually ordered. The sommelier was completely unapologetic and uncaring, claiming that they printed what the distributor told them, even though nothing on the label backs up the claim. The service was inattentive; they already had their pink slips and they knew it. Skip Lineage and go someplace where someone cares at least a little about something they do.

They have a way with fish. It is always excellent, well presented, and generous portions, cooked accurately to your wishes. Service is commensurate. Fine dining in Brookline. LIneage, you will be missed! If I had one comment it is that a TV is jarring in the dining room (which I realize is also a bar, but still...)

Lovely restaurant! Welcoming staff. The seafood dishes were out of this world.

Lineage is quite an exceptional place to dine. Their lobster tacos is out of this world and a must try item on the menu. The service is very attentive but not hovering. The food is honest and genuine and the flavors are always bursting. It is one of my family's favorite restaurant in the Boston area.
