New American restaurant and bar that is inspired by the agricultural and coastal traditions and bounty of Virginia. Lemaire delivers the quality and service The Jefferson Hotel is known for, but in an accessible format without the pretense, formality or expense!

Complimentary self-parking is available in both the Adams Street and Main Street lots. Valet parking is $18/car

For special requests (cake, flowers, etc) guests must contact Lemaire directly.

Tables are held for 15 minutes.

Separate checks are not available for parties of six or more. A 20% gratuity will automatically be applies for parties of six or more.

            Food was amazing! However, we were not provided menus when we were seated, server seemed harried all evening. While other tables got several servings of bread we did not get ours until our entrees had come out. Server enjoyed chatting with diners even if they did not wish to chat with her, all other staff were very efficient.

            The menu is limited but the food was exceptional. I had a crab cake for an appetizer, and it was delicious. It is small but it was delicious. I also picked pork chop for the main entree, and it was just a little overcooked. Desserts were super!

            The atmosphere is amazing but things went south when I had to send back my very overcooked lamb. Though they made things right, our waiter seemed soured by my request. Almost ignored after that. And no offer of appreciation that it was my birthday while the table next to us were given a free dessert because it was their anniversary. A fine restaurant should not be offended by a guest asking for them to make the main dish right.

            The service was adequate. We were on time for our 7pm reservation because we were staying at the hotel. This was not our first or even fourth visit, but it was nearly an hour before we received our entrees, and we had not ordered an appetizer. The bread we were served was tasty but rather too chewy. It would also have been more enjoyable had it been warmed. I ordered a nonalcoholic drink, but was disappointed that despite such a large beverage menu, there were only two nonalcoholic drinks on offer. I asked our server if there were any other nonalcoholic beverages to choose from and she replied “no”. That was disappointing. An establishment such as this one should have at least five or six nonalcoholic beverages to choose from. The chicken I ordered was dry. The menu had mentioned vegetables, which were present on the plate. However, the menu also mentioned “vichyssoise”. As far as I know, vichyssoise is a potato soup. But there were only two tiny pieces of potato on my plate, so why are they calling it vichyssoise? There was no explanation and I forgot to ask our server. My husband liked his meal, which was the steak and potatoes, and the lemon mascarpone cheesecake that we shared for dessert was tasty. All in all it was a nice dinner, but it wasn’t a standout. We will certainly return to this hotel in the future, but perhaps for dinner instead we will go to TJ’s, their more casual (and less expensive) dining option.

            I dine at the Jeffererson four times a year, this experience was “not so good”. We traveled from Atlanta, GA to take a family friend out for her 76th birthday. My entree, chicken was dry and bathed in a green gravy that had no taste and looked bad. Our guests had mixed drinks, which also had “zero” flavor. The wait staff knew of the birthday celebration and after spending $496 on dinner before tip and valet parking, we thought the guest of honor could of had a complementary dessert …. but that didn’t happen. I will not teavel 1,120 miles round trip again to dine at The Jeffererson, it was a disappointing dining experience. Marty Blake
