Very nice evening
Ambiance is a little stuffy and in need of a refresh. Food was good but not spectacular. Service was good. Hostess was a bit stiff and not engaging, almost standoffish.
After a bit of a slow start, once we got menus everything was wonderful. The beef cheeks were outstanding as a starter, and the lamb shank and sea scallops were great choices as entrees. The chocolate ganache was a perfect finish.
The food was amazing. I highly recommend the beef cheeks appetizer. It sounded odd, but the meat is probably the most tender beef you'll ever eat. The beef tenderloin was perfect and the banana bread pudding reminded me of banana's foster, but made of bread.
Lemaire is one of the staples in Richmond for a special occasion. This one was my wife's birthday dinner. The hotel is great atmosphere and Lemaire is no exception, we started with a drink in the bar area and then were seated in a great location next to the fireplace so they definitely made sure we had a nice spot for our dinner. Our waiter and the sommelier were both great as we bought in a nice bottle of Domaine Fourier 08 1er Cru and they suggested a nice Mourvedre wine that was perfect to start and went well with our appetizer - the bay oysters. For the dinner my wife selected the special which was the trout with ink squid risotto - very tasty if a bit on the salty side. I selected the lamb shanks which were very nice and also huge, in fact you could split those. Not quite as tender as I would have hoped but very nice. For desert the Caramel Apple Pecan cheesecake to take home. Overall a great experience for us, the key being the excellent service and attention to detail for us.
It was a totally wonderful experience for our first birthday as a married couple sharing the same birth date on February the 10th
Wonderful! The meal was excellent, the wine delicious, and the service truly first-class. Thank you to Lemaire for helping to make my mother’s birthday so special!
Always an outstanding experience and this was no exception. An excellent meal and attentive service. Couldn’t ask for more!
Excellent cuisine in an elegant atmosphere in Richmond’s finest hotel.
We went to Lemaire to celebrate a birthday and it was amazing! We got the crab cake appetizer and there is little to no filler- just delicious crab that comes with a great slaw, polenta, and sauce. I got the salmon, which was cooked to perfection and accompanied by root vegetables and a tangy yogurt that was light and filling all at the same time. My boyfriend got the rockfish and it was also cooked very well- the broccolini was especially tender and delicious. They even gave us a menu that said happy birthday on it, what a nice touch! Above all else, our waitress was such a delight. She made the experience that much more wonderful and was extremely attentive. Thank you Lemaire! We will be back for sure.
The restaurant is located in a beautiful, old world but up to date hotel, creating a wonderful atmosphere for dining. The centerpiece is a magnificent staircase. The scallops entree was very good but the vegetable accompanying it were disappointing, as were the a la carte potatoes. It's almost as if they are trying to create something special, but are wide off the mark. The cheesecake dessert was superb. The scotch pour was excellent but a little disappointing for the wine. The service was very attentive and pleasant.
My Wife and I went with another couple. We had a GRAND Time! The food and the service was exceptional!
Went to Lemaire for a family celebration of which I was hosting. The food and service in the lounge and dining room were excellent as usual. However, misinformation and misdirection by valet and parking personnel resulted in much confusion, frustration and inconvenience. I dropped my wife off at the lobby entrance and at first declined valet services and went to self park which I have done dozens of times in the past. A traffic jam occurred at the self park/valet lot and I was told by another employee that I could only park there if I was an overnight guest. I worked myself out of the jam and found a convenient spot on the street/drive adjacent to the building where many others were parked. While walking back to the lobby I was stopped and told by yet another employee that I could not park there. I stated that there were no signs to the contrary and others were being allowed to park there. I was told that it was private property and no signs were required. The area was being used for police who were there as security for an event. He then told me I could use valet parking so I went around the block back to the lobby entrance. I was then told that I could not use valet parking because I was not staying the night and the other guy did not know what he was talking about. I was directed over to the next block were I finally was able to park. After about a 15 to 20 minute delay I was finally able to join my wife who was wondering what had happened to me. Oddly, my son and his wife who arrived minutes later, were able to use valet parking! The others in my party ended up as we did in the back lot. Needless to say, this whole fiasco left a negative impression. I would have rated service lower but did not want it to reflect on the excellent service we received in the lounge and dining room. All of this could have been simply avoided with a briefing to all parking employees and a minimal of supervision.
Very good food and the pear salad was awesome! We enjoyed our time and food there.
80 year old’s birthday
Beautiful setting, great service “indeed”, asked for steak medium, came medium well. Huge mistake for a restaurant with such prestige.
Ate here for a business meal. Excellent service and the ambiance, well, it's The Jefferson! The kale salad was amazing. I had the rockfish, and while it was delicious, the overall meal wasn't as flavorful as I was expecting, but, it was still very good.
This is the 7th five star restaurant we have enjoyed in Virginia in the past few years and I must say, the best. My wife’s salmon was the best she has ever had and my filet was cooked to perfection. Our waiter knew everything about the menu items and even knew the history of the “honey squash” that was was part of our shared salad. I highly recommend this restaurant and, of course, The Jefferson Hotel, where the restaurant is located.
If you visit The Jefferson Hotel, just walking around inside will leave you in amazement of the craftsmanship it took to create this place. Glass work ,columns, staircases. The restaurant Lemaire was great. Staff was great. Food was top notch. Would recommend this place to anyone. You will Not be disappointed. Our anniversary dinner will always be remembered with a smile .
A wonderful, classic restaurant with excellent food, service and atmosphere. Very reminiscent of the time when "fine dining" actually embodied all of those qualities. It was my wife's birthday and the experience could not have been better. The wine selection was exceptional and the prices reasonable.
It was absolutely amazing 10/10, nothing to dispute
Drinks at the bar were very relaxing and the service there was prompt and attentive even though the bar was quite busy. Our dinner itself was superb but was made even more enjoyable by our server. She was personable and attentive without being intrusive, and her timing was spot on each step of the way.
Outstanding classic atmosphere with excellent and friendly service. Quiet environment which facilitates conversation. Excellent wine recommendation from server. The food was well prepared and presented. A visit to the bar/lounge prior to dining was also very enjoyable. It is a relatively quiet place to enjoy a drink although we have been there before when groups (Va. General Assembly sessions, etc.) have made it much more frenetic and less appealing.
A total delight.
Loved everything about our meal
Food was amazing! Expect great food and great service. Beautiful location. Even gave us a free anniversary dessert! The waiters and hostesses were all so kind and helpful. Great experience!
We had an excellent meal and the service was superb. Celebrated our 17th Anniversary and they went the extra mile to write that in chocolate on our desert plates!
Our dinner was so delicious, and our servers were highly professional and gracious. We will return for special occasion dinners!
Excellent experience! Delicious food and and the service was exceptional!
We were celebrating a birthday and the service staff made it more special through their service. About the food, I ordered the Chicken dish in the dinner menu, and it was so salty, but overall loved the dish.
James was our server. He was efficient and knowledgeable. He recommended an excellent VA wine...Early Vineyard. Shawn, the sommelier provides excellent wine service. Both salads and entrees were very good. Prices were reasonable and we will dine again next time in Richmond.
Best food I’ve had in Richmond.
Absolutely wonderful. Great ambiance. Professional and responsive staff. Food was exceptional. This is a jewel. Don’t miss it.
Laura, our waitress, was as good as it gets, and The Jefferson - can't get much better - especially after the holiday crowds have gone but the decorations are still up. Our beet salad was pretty standard and hardly worth $14. Wife had the seared duck and enjoyed it, and especially enjoyed the wine suggested by Laura. My seared scallop dish was tasty. Our ganache dessert was very good. This was our 45th anniversary dinner. but it's hard for me to justify a $155 meal, but then again my wife enjoyed it so I'm a happy guy. We'll probably be back next year.
Beautiful place. A great place for any occasion but really wonderful for Christmas and holidays.
Food was fresh and delicious but not many vegan options. The staff was very friendly and provided excellent service. Our waiter Bruce provided us excellent service and he reviewed our notes about the reservation to find out the whole table was vegan.
We had an excellent experience at Lemaire. We arrived a few minutes early and got a drink in the Lounge. My husband loved his Moscow Mule, and the bartender picked out a perfect glass of white wine for me. Once were were seated, our server, Michael, came over and took his time explaining the menu to us, which we really appreciated. Throughout the entire meal, Michael was amazing. He served as a liaison between me and the chef to make sure I could enjoy my meal without experiencing any allergic reactions and made excellent suggestions. He was personable and attentive, providing some of the best service I've ever received. The food itself exceeded expectations. I ordered the Kale Caesar (minus the breadcrumbs). The anchovy crostini served on the side was exceptional; I made my husband (who loathes anchovies) try a bite and even he loved it. Bright, citrusy, and just salty enough, it was the perfect compliment to the salad. My husband had the raw pearl oysters and raved about the salmon roe and cucumber on top. We shared the tuna tartare. I will admit I was a little skeptical about the flavor combinations (raw tuna, hard-boiled egg, and olives) but we are both suckers for raw fish so we tried it. It was delicious. For my entree, I had the fish special, a phyllo-crusted halibut. The fish was tasty, but the star of the dish was the seared royal trumpet mushrooms.I don't eat red meat, and those little babies reminded me of a perfect juicy steak. Just delicious. My husband is still talking about his scallop dish two days later. For dessert, Michael recommended the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding. It was heavenly, and topped with bruleed banana slices, a wonderful surprise. My husband loved his candied pecan cheesecake. After dinner, we lingered to finish our drinks and enjoy the atmosphere. It was a great night, complete with personalized little touches like "happy anniversary" written in chocolate on our dessert plates. Will definitely return for another special occasion!
Thank you Jefferson Hotel for providing such wonderful Holiday experiences for our family for over 40 years.
Great night and our server Michael was fantastic!
My wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at the Jefferson with dinner at the Lemaire. It was a perfect stay in every respect. The staff were all A+ and the food was excellent. We plan to return as soon as possible.
The Jefferson Hotel at Christmas is so special- Lemaire is perfect for the Jefferson Hotel.
