We’ve been going to Lehja for years so we love it. The food is excellent and wine options are very good.
Service was not good, appetizer was cold when served
So loud, couldn’t even hear each other at our table. Appetizers came out cold. Had to ask the server for everything- water several times, more rice, more naan. Entrees were good, but overall experience was not.
Lehja provides modern Indian food with traditional Indian flavor. Simply the best Indian restaurant in Richmond. Chef/owner Sunny make each visit special.
Attentive service, food prepared to the EXACT heat level requested, and a great wine selection...this is what we expect from ANY restaurant and this is what Lehja delivered.
The Chaat was amazing. Two entrees were excellent, but two (the kababs) were rathere bland.
Our waiter was pleasant and polite but not very attentive. We had to ask other wait staff to fill our water glasses. We ordered dessert, and 10 minutes he came back to tell us that there would be an additional 10-15 minute delay.
As always, Lehja was a great dinner. Went for the wife’s birthday this year and we had a great spread, as well as wonderful service
Completely amazed. Now I know why they were in the running for the James Beard award.
Visited for restaurant week, but not a huge crowd. We invited friends who are not very adventurous diners and had not been to Lehja, thinking it would be great. Food was very good, but not great. Veggie portions in selected dishes were tiny. App not hot (warm). Service was awful. Server took our app order, then failed to return for our main order, had to flag him down after we had finished apps and sat for a while. Same for dessert. Did not ask how we wanted checks. Good pacing and not being rushed is one thing, but this was ridiculous. We have dined at 29 of the restaurants on the list and chose Lehja because of the excellent experience we had there previously, but were disappointed.
With reservations, we waited 20 minutes to get water and 40 minutes before a waiter rook our order. It was Frisay and Restaraunt. Week. The waiters moved like silent zombies through the tables. After we spoke, they nodded witiut comment and glided to their next duty. We got a difderent one to bring each course and none provided any interaction with us. My puffed rice with Crab appetizer did taste like puffed rice cereal, and the crab part was small. My wife's goat appetizer was inedible, reminding her of dogfood. My main course was a small nicely flavored chicken dish with 2 small pieces of broccoli and one small piece of squash. The garlic nan and jasmune rice were the best parts of the dinner. 1947 beer was sour; I don't recomnend it. Deserts were small, but okay. The bill was brought by a silent waiter we hadn't seen before. Nonetheless, we left a tip, walked out and don't plan to return.
Terrific selections for restaurant week.
Great service and food!
You can't go wrong with anything your order here. Every menu item is delicious. And their, spice rating is spot on. We went with a group that liked everything from mild to "you might die" on the the spice scale and everyone was happy. The only note, please just take our used silverware away after the first course instead of asking us to take them off of our plate and set them on the table. If you are looking for authentic Indian food that is prepared with fantastic ingredients (and an amazing wine selection too!!) make sure you stop in.
I have been to Lehja 3 times and have never had a dish that was not delicious. The wait staff is very accommodating and willing to make recommendations that have proven to be spot on. The noise level has never been high. A delightful experience every time.
Always exceptional and consistent. One of the best restaurants in Richmond and top Indian restaurants I’ve experienced.
The food was fantastic, and if I could I would give our server 10 stars. He was knowledgeable about the dishes and their regional differences, and shared that knowledge in a fun and enthusiastic way. Clearly went out of his way to make our evening outstanding. Going back again this weekend!
I cannot do spicy, which is why I tend to shy away from Indian food. But....Lehja is so accomodating to people like me. They can really tone down the spicy ness without taking away from the flavor of the food. I have eaten here 5 or 6 times and have enjoyed my meal each time. The food is fabulous. I find the service a bit lacking tho. The last 2 times I have been here, we waited a considerable time to be waited on. The staff has trouble understanding requests. At lunch with 4 of us, they brought one check. We were all co-workers, not a family. We needed separate checks but were not even asked. Same for bagging up the left overs. One plastic bag for 4 people. The place would get 5 stars from me if the service were better. But, know that going in and do not let that dissuade you from enjoying the excellent food.
The owner takes great pride in the sourcing, authenticity and quality of the food and made an excellent wine pairing. The duck is definitely worth returning for. Kudos to a local entrepreneur whose
It was amazing. Nitesh took great care of us the entire night. The food was beyond amazing and the indoor patio was perfect! Amazing experience all around.
I am not sure if I would recommend. I am British and was hoping to find Indian food I am used to. It was very good but not outstanding . The waitstaff were clearing our plates while other members were still eating. We felt very rushed and the table next to us was really loud. That I recognize is not the staffs fault.
Best Indian food in Richmond! Delightful, quiet atmosphere with excellent service and local beer!
Best Indian cuisine in town! Portions are smaller than average American portions.
Beautifully presented, delicious food. Interesting wine list, pleasant atmosphere, excellent service
Always a great visit, great food with great customer service. Sunny is awesome, always treats his customers as guests. 10/10
Lehja serves beautiful food with multiple layers of flavor. The chef came and talked to our table since it was quiet when we were there (early in the evening). Delightful presence and hospitality. I've been impressed each time I go, and will return again.
I can see why this it has a James Beard Award nomination -- it is superb. Best chicken tikki masala I've ever had, in many restaurants in many cities! Go!
This is the best place for Indian cuisine in Richmond! I have been here numerous times and never disappointed.
Good food, but not as impressive as we had thought it would be considering other rave ratings! Service was attentive at first (during ordering period), then we felt we were overlooked quite a bit. We actually ASKED if we could order dessert and then waited at least 15 minutes to receive it!! In addition, our plates were cleaned and stacked as we tried to talk which was annoying while we were trying to have a conversation to have someone reaching in between us over the table to clear...and not even an "excuse me". Water fill-ups were attentive. Not as impressed with Lehja as I had hoped to be.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. One friend had never eaten Indian food and she loved the tandoori variety. I had.tandoori chicken and vegetables. Our third friend had paneer with spinach. She enjoyed that too.
One thing I love about Lehja is the staff’s willingness and ability to patiently explain how food is prepared and how to accommodate guests’ various concerns about spiciness.
The food was delicious - flavorful but not too spicy. But the service - that was something else. Took 45 minutes to get our food, and the place wasn't even full. Still, it was a memorable meal and we will return.
There was a strong cold draft from the front door that required one to wear a coat throughout the meal. Wait staff was working very hard however, the must have been short handed. Not up to their normal service levels. Excessive wait times between courses, getting check, etc. High noise level due to a lot of people enjoying themselves. Several party groups. Ceiling acoustic baffles would help.
We ordered shrimp/chicken zafrani, lamb haandi, and off-menu butter chicken. Went here for my birthday, and the food was absolutely delicious and more complex in flavor compared to other Indian restaurants we’ve been to in Virginia.
Dined at Lehja for the first time for lunch on Saturday. The chef came out several times to chat and advised that we happened to come on an unusually slow day--among other things we learned from him that they are "farm to table" on meats and other items, and we believe it as my lamb vindaloo was very tender and tasty as was the chicken dish my wife enjoyed. We had been hearing great things about this place, and they certainly lived up to their rep. We enjoyed it so much that since we were leaving for a week at our beach house where outstanding Indian cuisine is not available, we got several entres and naan to go. We will be back.
Quality has declined since the last time I visited about a year ago.
We have high expectations of Lehja, in general, but more so here as we know they can deliver. We took advantage of the Chefs tasting menu this evening...basically a not-on-the-menu sampling of exquisite dishes paired with a different wine (likely Indian sourced).
It was wonderful. A roasted cauliflower early course that caused me to regret a childhood that should have had more vegetables. A seared scallop presented with a wonderful smear of beet paste. I hate beets, yet I cleaned this plate dry.
We felt the servers were there for us, alone. The pacing of the several plates was spot on. They may not be able to accommodate this style of meal on a busy Friday or Saturday...but it is well worth arranging your universe to make this fit.
Food and service was fantastic!
Delicious Indian food, wonderful setting, and impeccable service. Will be recommending to my families and friends.
Me and 7 of my friends met for lunch at Lehja for the first time and had an amazing experience. The owner explained every item on the menu thoroughly even making suggestions. The food met our expectations, the service was spot on and the ambiance was very relaxing. Everyone in my party enjoyed themselves tremendously and would highly recommend eating at this restaurant!
the food and drinks were delicious. We went there just after a snowstorm at 4:30 one day. Very quiet and we had the place to ourselves. But the chef and staff were there making everything wonderful. We will be back soon
