Superb! We'll definitely return!
We celebrated my wife's birthday there and it was terrific. Nicely decorated, quiet and great food. Adam said the the "chocolate mousse was the best in the country." He was right. Great place for a cozy dinner.
We enjoyed our meal - the bronzino was outstanding, the accompanying vegetables were perfectly cooked, the mussels were incredibly tender, the bread was great. Overall, we would very much recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a quiet place in the City of Fairfax with terrific food and a European flair.
The food is excellent and good value for the money. Service is also quite good. It is a great find in Fairfax City.
Very, very overpriced. The server gets an "A" for effort and friendliness, but the service, for this price point, was very unpolished. They were out of the wine I ordered, they were out of the champagne my friend ordered, the women's bathroom was out of service, their creme brulee torch was broken yet they didn't take the creme brulee off the menu, the server forgot to bring my wine, forgot to bring my knife for my lamb, never brought the cream for my coffee, and our bill was incorrect. The decor is shabby--cheap laminate floors, cheap curtains and curtain rods, chipped and fading paint. It has potential, though. The space is intimate and the tables, with their white tablecloths, are nicely set. The food wasn't bad, but for the price, I expected something way better. My favorite, actually, was my cup of coffee.
The Salmon was good as always, same with the French Onion Soup. We have eaten there more than half a dozen times in the last 3 years and it is usually busy. This was a Friday night and we were there from 7:30 to 9:30; and am not sure why we were the only guests. The menu that night was heavily seafood focused, which is good for me, but offered limited choices for my who had the chicken in Phyllo but enjoyed it.
We were the only table there for an early dinner at 5 pm, so we had great service and a very quiet room. It was excellent. But o hey it's still very good even when more full. The food was delicious and lovely to look at, too.
Great food with a great wine selection. Food option unique and well prepared.
We had been to Le Mediterranean Bistro before a few times, and remembered it fondly, and the place lived up superbly to our memories of it. The service was outstanding, and the menu is marvelous.
Good food in a small venue. You can actually have conversations there!
Everything was good. Kind of a mixture of different cuisines. Service was very good. Desserts were delicious.
This was our first visit to Le Mediterranean Bistro, as well as French Moroccan cuisine on the whole, so we didn't know quite what to expect. It turned out to be very pleasant, and our server was extremely attentive, though, other than the lovely french music, and the escargot, it didn't seem terribly french. But we enjoyed it anyway.
Outstanding in every way. Thank you!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The food was good French style cooking with a hint of Morrocan style. Primarily French flavors and dishes. A heavier sprinkling of North African flavors would definitely broaden the experience. Service was attentive, with staff ensuring you were ready for the next course before bringing it out. Wine selection paired nicely with the food.
We went for Valentine's Day dinner and it won't be a dinner we'll soon forget...but not for the right reasons. The service was so terrible that we were giggling. We had a reservation and were promptly seated but our waiter didn't come over for 15-20 mins. When he did arrive all he said was "do you know what you want?" Not..."Happy Valentine's Day, welcome to Le Mediterranean Bistro my name is Adam and I'll be your server. Could I get you started with a glass of wine?" I told him we would like to start with wine - gave our order and he said "and what else?" Apparently he wanted our whole order then and there. We got our appetizers eventually, my butternut squash soup was good, my girlfriend ordered the Toulouse Sausage with bacon wrapped scallops...there was no sausage. Our waiter was MIA so she ate it, the ingredients included were fine. 30 mins later we asked for another drink, motioning to our empty glasses that had been empty for quite some time, but he wouldn't know that because we didn't check in. We got our 2nd glass at least 10 minutes later. About an hour+ in, he swung by and asked if our filet mignons had come out, I looked at the empty space in front of me and said, nope. He just said "oh" and left. Another 20+\- mins later he brought The filets - minus the crispy onions that were supposed to be on there. Since our glasses were empty once again we asked for another glass..."of wine?," he said. Apparently he didn't think we needed the 3rd glass because he never brought it. We also asked for bread 5 times before getting it. We overheard lots of other issues from other tables since we were on top of each other. One poor woman got oysters bachemel minus the oysters. I asked our waiter if there was a manager on duty to which he pointed and said, she's over there.
We paid our bill and left.
They were obviously grossly unprepared for Valentine's Day. I don't know if it was staffing or what - but it was a disaster and it was on every customer's face.
This was Valentine's day and so the quiet ambience allowing for private conversations was wonderful. The food arrived with long waits - ala French relaxed mode. About halfway into our meal, music came on; it was just a tad over soft and needed a bit of adjustment but it still allowed for quiet conversations. The food was good but not remarkable. We did not drink, but they seem to have had a lengthy wine list.
Overall I was pleased with my experience but have no real reason to return.
We like this place. Service was slow on Valentine's Day but they were busy. We will go back.
Too bright, too loud (Pandora), too bad; although the food was ok.
Our 1st visit. Neighborhood Gem. Nice wine list. Our food was lovely, but the pork t. was over cooked slightly. Our server was kind and friendly, could use some pointers. Small enhancements to chipping paint and a little wait staff training and this could be a gold mine.
Have come here several times with the wife. Great food, excellent service, and just what you'd hope for in a French place - great ambiance, too. No weak dishes and have had several standout meals.
I read the two slightly unfavorable reviews of this restaurant and then went ahead and booked anyway. I knew the building from years ago when it was an Indian Restaurant and I wanted a quiet small cozy place. It hasn't changed . It was very intimate and the waitress kept a watchful eye so as to not intrude and yet still be available when needed. I had a Moroccan chicken dish which was new for me and immensely tasty. The spices made it almost sweet. Note: I said almost, it was not overly sweet and has an almost nut-like texture and flavor. My guest had salmon and said it was very tasty. I don't eat fish so I accept that verdict. I will go back to the Le Mediterranean Bistro and will recommend it!
We have eaten here many times--always with pleasure. It's a little restaurant in the center of Fairfax, near the university. The food is delicious and unusual, at least for Fairfax--Moroccan/French--with items that lean French like scallops provencal and others that lean Moroccan like the sea bass pastilla. Both of those are favorites of ours. There's usually a vegetarian risotto among the specials. The list of wines by the glass isn't long, but it varies from week to week, as do the specials, so it's possible to visit often. The service is friendly and accommodating , there are no TVs or loud music, and parking is right across the street. What more could you ask for?
My wife and I went there because we found a Groupon, and we were very impressed with the quality and presentation of the food. We had the smoked salmon appetizer and both had the trout entree, followed by the lava cake. The bread was fresh, warm and delicious and the server was polite and professional. This is a hidden gem.
Very disappointing meal. The beet salad was bland and soggy; the duck liver mousse was not a mousse at all, but a slab. It tasted good, but was served without any crostini, so the dish was very odd. The bouillabaisse consisted of a very orange weird tasting sauce, with a spoon (again no bread or crostini) - was I supposed to eat the sauce like a soup? The mussels were good, but the other fish was so overpowered by the orange juice, that there was no enjoyment in the bite. The sea bass pastilla was overcooked. The service was awkward -- When I asked how the sole special was cooked, I got a blank "what do you mean" look. "it's baked!" was the reply. One of my dining companions asked for a carry out container for her left-over, the server scraped the food into the container right there in front of her. This restaurant was virtually empty on a Saturday night, and it is clear why. It doesn't know how to serve the food it prepares and is not the upscale restaurant it seeks to be or looks to be from the outside.
A friend and I went about a year ago (? actual timing). She was back in town so we wanted to go -- they MUST have a different chef. We loved our meal and the service last time. This time, the service was barely there. The food was average at best -- I could have made it and I'm not a great cook. We won't be going back.
Food was delicious and the service excellent. It was mid-week so it was nice and quiet, a nice evening for conversation and good company.
On a cold, 20 degree day, my husband and I arrived at 7PM and were the only diners in the restaurant. The waitress was nice but did not bring him the entree he ordered (filet mignon). She brought him the sole, which wasn't even close to what he ordered. She apologized and took it away. While he was waiting for his meal I shared my lamb chops and ratatouille with him, which was delicious. It didn't take very long for his filet mignon to arrive and it was good. No one else came into the restaurant while we were dining.
If you are in the City of Fairfax, this is a place to consider for lunch or dinner. The food is very good and service warm and friendly. Prices are moderate and the wine list has some interesting selections.
Wonderful dinners of chicken pastilla and lamb shank. The crab soup was also very good. However, the snails were a bit tough. The wine list was adequate. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and welcoming ambiance. We'll certainly go back.
On a bone-cold evening, the cost restaurant had only one other party. The waiter was evidently not accustomed to waiting, and was a little awkward. This is only worth mentioning since the rest of the experience was great. Little storefront, great neighborhood of restaurants. The food was very well seasoned and paired with complementary sides—if the portions were somewhat small. I had the rack of lamb and tried the scallops. Both were excellent. Try the Ethiopian coffee!
Heat was not working when we visited. They could have bought and used space heaters
Excellent food as always. Cozy. On line menu was out of date. Steak no longer served. Many desserts listed on line no longer served. Pricy wines.
What a delicious find! You might not guess what is In store for you from the appearance but the chef at this restaurant is superbly talented. You can see and taste in every plate the classic training in French cuisine and the inspiration of the moraccan influence. We ordered the Mediterranean sea bass in papillote, blacked scallops over risotto and a shrimp and grits from the specials menu. All were perfectly prepared, innovative and expertly flavorful. On par with the top restaurants in the entire DC region. We will be visiting this gem when we are in Fairfax again.
We had a delightful evening. The food was uniformly delicious and wonderfully prepared. The server was friendly and charming, while also being discreet, allowing us to have a quiet leisurely meal. It was not busy, which disappoints me.
A comfortable Bistro with good food and friendly service. The cuisine is primarily North African and French, although some of their specials go beyond this. For example, special was Shrimp & Grits with Tasso Ham Lobster Sauce. Sounded very nice.
One thing that should be pointed out--Open Table reservations only start after the pris fixe menu shuts down. So if you are looking to save money in exchange for lower prices, go before 6:30pm.
Absolutely fantastic food and service! This is a hidden gem. They have great gluten free options and have a variety of options. I love this place and highly recommend it for anything occasion.
2nd time here. It's a wonderful menu but the evening's special, a lobster ravioli, was very disappointing. The filling was runny with little lobster and the flavor was overwhelmed by the tomato/wine sauce which tasted decidedly like tomato soup. Should have stuck with the squash ravioli with wild mushrooms which I had enjoyed before.
4 adult friends dined here on Sat. Aug. 13. Food was excellent as always. All 4 of us had a seafood dish - all different - and everyone pronounced their meal excellent! Absolutly nothing was left on any plate. The only problem that night - when it was over 100 humid degrees outside - was that their air conditioning couldn't keep up so it was warm inside also. Great place - I recommend it.
We returned here for the chicken pastille which was still the best we have ever had, including in Morocco. I had the lamb rack which was prepared exactily to my taste - medium rare on the rare side. Good service.
We will return on our next visit to Fairfax.
This was our second time at this restaurant. We where there last on 2014, and we were particularly surprised by their wine menu. We found our favorite bottle of wine there at a reasonable price, the meal and everything was great. This second time was not memorable at all. The temperature was set a 84 degrees it was extremely uncomfortable, the wine selection was very limited and the menu while it looked similar it didn't taste as good. The server was very nice and helpful, the heat situation seemed to be outside her control.
