Their food is really first rate. The only downside is that they have so many tempting choices, it's hard to decide. The service is on par with the food, the staff is friendly and helpful.
Nice atmosphere. Good food and professional people. Very well
Everything was delicious and the service was phenomenal!
Great meal, great experience, one of the best dining experiences we've had in a restaurant during the pandemic. Le Dip continues to deliver everything that makes it one of our favorite restaurants.
Great food with very bad service. If you're in a hurry to have dinner this is the place for you
i had a reservation for outdoor seating and we were sat under the plastic cover. not sure how that was considered outside. What is the seating that is actually outside referred to as? Perhaps confusion on my end. but food was amazing.
I took my daughter and her friend for brunch on Sunday. The food was excellent. The service was good. However it was very noisy and hard to hear the conversation. Its my second time there. I’ll come back. But would not suggest for an intimate dinner.
The food was really good (except for the pommnes frites, that were a bit dry and warm and not hot), the beer selection was satisfying as well.
The place is noisy, especially on Sundays which makes it hard to relax and enjoy the food. Sunday was packed (forget social distancing).
My server first forgot my drink order, then wanted to take my food away when I was only half way done with it, then disappeared for solid 15 minutes so I had to ask the bus boy for a bill. When I was about to pay, the server returned and made a very close & deep eye contact with me, making sure I top him well (I left 10% out of courtesy).
I will return on a weekday and will make sure to sit outside for a better experience (given the food was really good).
Good food, good portions for price, very nice staff.
Always a delight!
Le Diplomate is definitely very hyped up, but delivers solid traditional French food and a fun atmosphere. I find I like it especially for brunch. My favorite are the gougeres and the steak tartar. I would never call it "affordable" but I feel like I get quality food and quality service every time I go.
We ate in a chalet, and it was freezing cold. I suppose I expected it to be a bit warmer. We wished that the heater had done more. The food was delicious, but the experience was marred by the fact of the cold. Avoid the chalets in winter if you are sensitive like me!
Server Ch. was outstanding. Thanks for great service. Play music tiny bit louder so can hear over crowd.
Brunch: excellent food. Tables are a tad close I got tired of our chairs getting bumped every time Staff wanted to get to the window area… Beware, once you pay your bill if you continue to chat over an coffee beverage, they’ll never refill your water.
The service was outstanding. Our waiter Ben was literally the best.
The food was meh. I got my fave, the foi gras parfait. But for me and all of my friends the meal fell flat. At first my friend ordered the duck. But sent it back because it was too salty. My other friend ordered the steak which was somehow well seasoned on the outside but flavorless throughout the meat. Potentially bc it was over cooked. Lastly my trout somehow had the same conundrum.
None the less, our drinks were perfect and Ben was an absolute gem.
I love the restaurant, but our experience was sub par because we were seated at a table right in front of the side door on a super cold day. Every time the door opened a gust of cold air hit our table. It was disappointing that we were sat at the table. Understand that the restaurant needs to fill the space but It was really unpleasant.
Always a delight, we went for a lunch and it was once again delicious.
Such a great time. Superior service. Awesome food.
I can't rave enough about the burgers here, absolutely incredible. Fries are above top notch as well
Le Diplomate has been one of DC's most-touted restaurants for many years, so upon returning to the city after seven years in an absolute restaurant-deficient area in TX, I decided to book a reservation there for a special occasion. I was a little disappointed on our arrival by the overall ambience of the establishment. It didn't seem to be the place for a quiet dinner to celebrate 44 years of marriage. Noise level is very high; tables are close together with traffic of wait staff and diners continuous nearby.
Now, to the food. Le Diplomate definitely lived up to its reputation. Salads were so good I marvel that they can get greens that fresh in the middle of winter. Our entrees (seafood dishes) were both prepared with obvious skill in seasoning and preparation - balanced seasoning, great flavor.
The servers are as skilled in service as the kitchen is in food prep.
In sum, the meal was a big success. The noise level made conversation - an important part of a big celebration - more difficult but the food carried the evening.
Good food! Exciting ambience! I would recommend to friends.
Le Diplomate is one of our favorite places to dine. It never disappoints.
The food was amazing! Wished we could have sat in one of the huts outside, but overall good experience!
Great food great wine great dinner.
Nice dinner. I was a bit surprised at how crowded it was at 5:30. The food was excellent but it was a bit noisy.
Attentive and eager service. Do come for the classics. We are fortunate to have them in our corner. Lovely, as always.
I have been meaning to go to this restaurant for years and it did not disappoint. My scallops were superb, but I had not noticed that they come with lentils. I am generally not a big lentil fan, but the sauce they were in was just scrumptious. I enthusiastically lapped the lentils up with the crusty French bread.
I was hosting 2 very senior foreign friends, without going into details I did something that was a diplomatic faux pas. Luckily for me, my waiter very agilely fixed the situation. Quick thinking on his part, for which I was very grateful.
My friends enjoyed their branzino and salmon. My Middle Eastern friend had formerly lived in Paris and was very complimentary of both the food and our waiter's mastery of French.
The bill seemed to be a good value. I had expected to pay somewhat more.
Awesome service from Faddel and Chakim. The steak and wine were well paired. The Crème du Pote and Crème brûlée were sublime.
Always reliable. Daniel was a very good server. Food was delicious.
Best dining experience in DC thus far. Le Dip offers a variety of choices, allowing diners to enjoy meals as casual as burgers, as well as ones as formal as lobster frites.
Brett was very accommodating and friendly. Restaurant made sure to accommodate us on every level. Food was fantastic Brett’s recommendations were spot on. Will come again when in DC.
Rushed service, food quality has gone down slightly over the years. Really felt like I was being rushed
One of the best meals I’ve had in months! Recommended by a friend. Will dine here every time I am in DC going forward. Probably the best Onion Soup I’ve ever had. Omelet was cooked to perfection. Sat on the heated patio. Could not have been happier.
Fantastic food and service!
I was very grateful to visit on the first night they're requiring vaccination proof. We had the most fantastic date night - the best food and drinks, as well as service and ambience.
Ordered a steak and it was extremely peppery. Service felt incredibly rushed. We were in and out in 45 mins and it was supposed to be a nice dinner for us and a special occasion. Beautiful restaurant. I would not recommend for the value.
Birthday celebration was a success. The food was as good as always and the attention to detail is really what keeps me coming back. Very busy and a bit more challenging to get a reservation than in the past but it makes me happy to see that they’re doing well.
Great service great food not a long wait at all with a reservation I would highly recommend for date day or night
Dad & daughter date. The service was not attentive and made our experience feel labored. The food was good but the app arrived after the main. Coffee refill was cold. Despite a reservation 3 weeks in advance we were seated in the very back 2 top by the server station. Was unfortunate and I had greater expectations.
