Le Diplomate Ratings and Reviews
The food was absolutely delicious.
However, the restaurant was extremely crowded and noisy. It was difficult to have any kind of conversation, or to hear the waiter.
Stingy with the toasts for the cheese board, but excellent cheese selection. The coffee was lukewarm. Asked for the bill to be split, but we happened to double check. The ‘split’ bill was quite a bit higher than it should have been, and we noticed after one person had already paid. Probably a mistake, but it speaks to the rush.
We had a reservation and still waited in the doorway ~10 minutes past the redecoration time.
Overall, I’d say the food is worth a visit, but only if you can make it off peak.
We went here for my boyfriend's birthday and it was wonderful! We went with a group of friends and enjoyed the atmosphere, the wine, and the food was delicious. We wound up ordering a ton of appetizers to share. We had the oysters, chilled lobster, mussels, escargot, and the steak tartar. It was all amazing, but the steak tartar was out of this world!!! The bread is so good too. The service was impeccable!
As always I enjoyed my visit to Le Diplomate. The menu has undergone some changes and there are a few new dishes I am eager to try. I was a little disappointed my favorite lamb dish is gone, and the apple curry scallops have not returned, but overall the menu looks good. This time I tried duck for the first time ever, not impressed. And, my pepper steak was in my opinion over peppered, but my trout and mushroom tart was delicious. Oh yeah, the Romarin's were tasty as well.
The first few times I visited were amazing! No complaints at all. We made this our after Nutcracker dinner tradition for the past 2 years. First year was great, last time, not so good. I was hesitant to come back for this year, but went ahead and did it. The decor is just so gorgeous during the Holidays it's hard to miss. BUT...the food just isn't great and for $30+ per entree I expect great. I had to send my scallop dish back...WAY to salty. They did bring me out a fresh dish which was much better and actually good, but by that time my family was done with their meals. My husband's trout was just so-so..a bit salty also. Bread and butter is delicious though and the salad we had was tasty. My daughter had delicious ravioli and then they did bring dessert on the house, which was a nice treat and was enjoyed and appreciated. SOO hard to say if I'd recommend to a friend. I guess I would but would tell them to be careful about what they order! Service was good though and the waiter was nice about returning my food.
The mac and cheese appetizer was absolutely scrumptious. The quality of food overall is excellent. Service is prompt and several individuals were working to keep our table clean and water glasses full throughout the meal. Our main server was quiet and lacked personality, however. I was also disappointed by the small portion of duck in my entree (Duck Sarladaise). But, my friends very much enjoyed their entrees (lobster omelette). The ambiance created by their holiday decor is great for a special occasion. Feels like you are in Europe.
Great food, wonderful service and the best cranberry walnut bread we have ever eaten. Lots of good brunch choices. The place was jammed 30 minutes after it opened. Must make a reservation well in advance to enjoy this place. Worth a trip from anywhere in the area!
Excellent steaks, wonderful roasted scallops dish on mashed potatoes. A bit pricey. Very noisy when restaurant filled up toward end of our meal. Excellent otherwise. Service was exceptional. Waitstaff anticipated our needs and arrived with extra plates without our asking. Very enjoyable but we won't go often because of the cost.
We love Stephen Starr restaurants and Le Diplomate is right there with other favorites like Buddakan and Parc. Have enjoyed Le Diplomate numerous times, for dinner and weekend brunch and have never been disappointed. We couldn't get to Paris for our anniversary, so dinner here was a fine consolation. Yes, it does remind you of a Parisian bistro.
Service was outstanding. Never rushed but always attentive. We began with my wife's favorite St. Germain champagne cocktail, which was perfect, and had a reasonable Alsace white wine with our meal, which was excellent
The food is a delight. We had to split a mushroom tart, because it is one of my favorite dishes in the world. The crust, the mushrooms, the cheese...a most savory treat! We paired it with a warm shrimp salad that was almost as good. For entrees, we each got the lobster risotto, the daily special... also excellent.
We had an absolutely incredible meal which was very nice for our first anniversary. The server went above and beyond and was very friendly. She even knew our dietary restrictions without asking - I’ve never had a restaurant actually pay attention to the OpenTable reservation notes and was thoroughly impressed. We had a question about a dish and special dietary needs and the server and management staff’s response and professionalism blew us away. Definitely want to dine here again soon.
We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Le Diplomate. The food is absolutely excellent. The steak tartare is one of the best I have ever had. For entrees we had the chicken paillard and trout, which were both superb. The french onion soup and ricotta ravioli are also stand outs. I don't think I have ever had a bad dish. We sat outside on an unexpectedly warm day at the end of November. I practically felt like I was in Paris! Furthermore, the waiter was so friendly and even brought a special birthday treat with a candle, as we were celebrating a birthday. 10 stars - can't wait to return!
We loved dining at Le Diplomate! The entire experience felt first-class, with an energetic ambiance, helpful staff, and delicious menu items. We took our time but the fast-paced environment made us feel like we were transported into a classic Parisian dining room. Would highly recommend for a sophisticated date night.
