What Insiders Are Saying
This French bistro is the place to see anyone who’s ever been on “Meet the Press". The food is also delicious.
We had gougère and steak frites which was good but too salty. Ambiance and service was good.
French toast was sitting in pineapple juice. Coffee was good but the saucer sat in a pool of spilt coffee. Avocado toast better at Fruititive. It took three weeks to get reservations here and I didn’t think the food was worth the wait or price, unfortunately.
Service proche de la perfection, nourriture excellente, ambiance brasserie parisienne. Réservation quasi obligatoire car complet en permanence. On passe un très bon moment.
great food selection, great tasting food - try the lobster omelette, great atmosphere
Steak frites and cocktails were amazing. Sea bass and desserts were good. Service was impeccable. Slightly overpriced.
We enjoyed our food at this restaurant -- it was wonderful -- but the noise level was -- for us 70-year-olds -- intolerable. It made conversation impossible, which is one of the reasons I go out to dinner. The waiter was typically abrupt for a Frenchman, though he wasn't one; the service was otherwise good. Because of the noise, alas, we'd hesitate to go there again.
Great food, great service. Accommodating of my wife's gluten allergy. Our teenaged kids enjoyed their meal as well. My only complaint is that it was quite loud by the end of our meal (around 8:00pm on a Wednesday night).
Delicious food, great ambiance, and super staff! We went for a special occasion, and it was perfect.
Went for my girlfriend's birthday. Everything from start to finish was excellent. Her steak was perfectly cooked, my lobster meal was delicious as well. Serve delicious bread with soft, salted butter, the ultimate test for any restaurant. Service was attentive and friendly without being overbearing.
One word will describe it: Excellent!!!!!!! Highly recommended!!!!!!!
Absolutely loved this place. The food was very good, and they have super fast, great service.
Cheese board was interesting, steak frites were delicious and came with too large a serving of fries, also delicious. For dessert, I would recommend the chocolate pudding over the apple tart. Closeau was a favorite cocktail.
The food and service was good overall.
However, we arrived 30mins earlier due to the heavy rain but the receptionist refused to seat us by saying the dinner menu starts at 5pm.
Yum! Our meal was great. Food was all DELICIOUS! Cheeseburger, escargot, raw bar, french onion soup (YUM), veal, and softshell crab were each more outstanding than the next. Brunch menu goes a bit too late (we couldn't get dinner at 4:30 on a Sunday... which, yes, is early, but not early enough that I want pancakes!). If you're going for a special occasion and are prepared to spend a bit more, this place is well worth it.
Great service, great food every time!! The consistency is amazing…five years strong!!
Great! Food was delicious. Definitely our favorite place to go for any occasion!
One of the best dining experiences that we have had in a long time. Excellent service, great food, great atmosphere. We can't wait to go back!
Good, but not as good as its reputation. Service nice, good, but nothing out of the ordinary. I judge all outstanding service against HOUSTONS). Food good but not rave-able. Really crowded and really loud. Outside seating quieter but not that comfortable or special—sitting on a sidewalk needs an upgrade.
Great food. Great ambiance. Great customer service with friendly and engaging waitstaff. Our experience was wonderful and we look forward to coming back soon.
The service, food, and entertainment are just fantastic
Standard french bistro fare done well, but not spectacular as the price would warrant. Kitchen has a heavy hand with the salt.
Great place and Food. Service was outstanding. Highly recommended.
Amazing food and great service.
My favorite restaurant in DC. Always excellent from the bread to dessert. We had champagne, oysters, steak frites and the classic hamburger. Profiteroles for dessert. Just like Paris - maybe better - no passport required. Service is perfection. It’s a bit noisy inside so for more conversation try the patio it’s quieter. The decor is authentic Parisian bistro. Hard to believe it’s new because it looks like it’s been there for decades. For the quality and experience it’s a real value.
Excellent food and service
One of the best meals I’ve had in DC. Escargot and Fois Gras are a must!
Great food and great service but we had a 5 pm booking for dinner and felt rushed. We hadn’t finished our cocktails before the appetisers arrived and then the wine was opened and poured. Altogether too rushed which is a shame as we felt we didn’t have time to digest anything before the check arrived and we were out at 6.25 pm.
It was lively/noisy/busy for a Tuesday evening. The food came so fast, you knew it wasn’t cooked to order. I’d say adequate, probably better for lunch
Delicious seafood! Gougères were worth it! All around great dining experience. Just not as cozy or intimate setting as I had imagined. Would gladly eat here anytime.
Service was fine. Food was fine. Prices were high. Seems like the restaurant has become complacent and has lost a little ambition.
Everything is good here, the service is fantastic. Wish I could dine here every week.
Le Diplomate never fails as a place to impress with consistent, fantastic French good, whether it be for a casual brunch or a visit from family/friends. Love it!
Lively brunch spot with deservedly high marks for pancakes and egg dishes - creme brulee included! Very warm summer day that challenged the air conditioning in the atrium section of the restaurant, which was a bit too warm for comfort. Main room was cooler.
The almond crusted Trout on top of a bed fresh green beans was Amazing! The French toast was a bit too sweet. I should’ve had the toppings on the side. It was a bit much. The lobster omelette could have some chunks of lobster. Overall good service, good food and good Vibes...
Le Diplomate is hands down my favorite restaurant in DC. It has an amazing (and affordable items if not looking to splurge) brunch that is perfect for a small group of people or large group up to ten. I always recommend making a reservation, the seating options are inside and a little more comfortable. However, it is well worth the wait if you just show up.
This is authentic french cuisine at its finest! Highly recommend the duck sarladaise, the eggs benedict & the burger (a fancier version of the big mac!). Perfect if you are going out with friends or parents. My most recent brunch was a group of 10 of us ranging from 4 to 60 and the staff was extremely accommodating. Can't praise Le Diplomate enough!
Recommended by so many but our experience was mediocre. Food was fine but nothing amazing. Service was rushed. $60 breakfast for 2 people- not worth it for me.
It was a great restaurant with amazing food. We sat in a glass covered portion of the restaurant and it did get a bit hot.
Had Brunch there last weekend. If you miss a taste of Paris, this is the place to go. Felt transported dining here.
Super lively vibe. Definitely a hot spot on 14th street. Started with a shellfish tower. Although it was beautiful it wasn’t what was described. Friend ordered a med-we’ll steak with pommefrittes which came out super bloody and all the blood soaked the frittes to the point they were soggy in blood. Waiter brought the wrong drink ( a martini instead of a beer) and disappeared for the last hour of dinner.
