Our server Mark was great. The entire staff were very friendly. The piano and singer was a great added touch
If there's entertainment get a table away from music. It is too loud up close.
Everything was perfect. This will be our "go to" restaurant for special occasions.
We went for our anniversary and enjoyed it. Ordered a bottle of wine, cheese appetizer, Caesar Salad, and the Steak Diane. The salad and Steak Diane were prepared at our table by Mark. Mark was also helpful in our wine selection. Everything was great including the live piano music. The staff all signed an anniversary card for us. Very thoughtful. We recommend for any special occasion. Thanks to Mark and all Le Charenton staff for a memorable evening.
The service was outstanding, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Our 49th anniversary could not have been celebrated in a better restaurant. We will be back.
First time we have visited. Was my wife's birthday and Le Charenton placed us in our own private room. Lovely meal and everyone cleaned their plates. Desserts selection was crème brule and cherries jubilee which I have not seen on a menu in a while. I would recommend for
special occasions or just a quiet dinner. We went on a Wednesday and the noise level was very low. Thank you Le Charenton for a lovely dinner.
From the young lady that greeted us to the diverse wine list, it was a wonderful experience. Our waiter was a pro, the food came out timely and the dishes were creative and fresh. We'll be back.
Steak Diane cooked table side -just the way we like it. Definitely request their wine room for a special evening among friends.
Another great dining experience. Alain is awesome!!
We were very well satisfied. Celebrating my wife's birthday, they gave her a card, nice touch, but a dessert would have been nicer. We have traveled to France several times, the experience was nice, but it did not remind us of France. The food was good, but seemed more Californian than French other than the Camembert on the cheese board and the foi gras on the filet. All said, it was good. I personally would have liked escargot, a cold soup.
Definitely the best fine dining experience in Folsom. Loved the tableside preparations and the top notch service. Felt like I was back in Paris.
Absolutely Fantastic..., Service, Food, Wine List, Music...
We really enjoyed our meal. I was a little surprised by only one seafood entree. We will be back.
Excellent service, delicious food
This lovely restaurant is a perfect spot to dine either with or without company. I am a single woman who dines frequently alone but I am never alone when I dine here. So classy!!!
Food was cold, greasy and generally poorly prepared. The waiter Alain put on more of a theatrical show than actually taking care of patrons. I would NOT recommend this restaurant.
We went there for a belated birthday celebration and thought it was just ok. The waiter was mostly responsive but started speaking in an exaggerated American accent when he thought we could not understand him.
The food was good but seemed a bit overpriced, especially for lamb spare ribs. We will try other places before coming back.
I believe Le Charenton is the finest restaurant in the greater Folsom/Granite Bay/El Dorado Hills area.
The food and presentation are always exceptional. On Friday and Saturday you can enjoy a nice selection of live piano music.
Wonderful interior ambiance with the piano player and table side preparation. Wait staff was pleasant, prompt and intuitive to our desires. We started with the garlic shrimp and smoked salmon blini appetizers and lobster bisque. Be sure to dip your bread in the garlic butter from the shrimp - delicious! Our table had steak Diane, the New York steak and filet with fois gras. Steak Diane was tender but flavor was just OK. But the New York and filet were extremely flavorful and cooked to perfection - well worth the price! We continued to stuff ourselves with desserts: chocolate marquis (a light mousse) and creme brulee best I've ever had, and I've had plenty. Corkage fee is $20. I highly recommend this little gem and will definitely be having dinner here again.
Celebrating my husbands success
Superb food service and ambiance, will be going back soon!
The initial service was slow, however, we felt rushed once we ordered. As we finished our soup/salad, our entee was served than desert. Not very attentive. Waiter couldn't recall who ordered what. The chef /owner spent most of his time at the bar drinking while many entrees and deserts are prepared table side by waitstaff.
Love this place, the food, the service, & the owner.
Relaxing and quiet setting with superb service and food. Highlights for us were the Caesar Salad for Two (prepared table-side), steak Diane (also table-side), and a wonderful creme brulee. Would recommend for any special occasion, entertaining guests or clients.
Everything was wonderful except my steak
I had the steak with mash potatoes carrots and green beans.
Food and service was excellent! Best fish I've ever had, cooked to perfection!
This was our first time at Le Charentan, and we found it to be a very nice experience. The staff are very welcoming and attentive, and our dinner was excellent. I have Celiac disease, so I cannot eat gluten. The staff are very knowledgeable about food allergies and had no trouble accommodating we. We will most definitely be back.
What a wonderful experience. This is a hidden gem of a restaurant discreetly hidden in Folsom. A must do for an incredible experience.
We had a lovely anniversary celebration with fabulous food and great service. We really enjoyed the piano player too.
It was great
Went for my wife's birthday. Great place for a special occasion. We used to love Chez Daniel and the transformation to Le Charenton is an improvement. More space, more menu choices. We really enjoyed the piano player and vocal accompaniment. Truly a special night.
I was so looking forward to our dinner, unfortunately we were sorely disappointed. Upon arrival we were seated and the host delivered a glass of sparkling wine/champagne to start; a nice touch. We brought our own special bottle of wine for dinner and for the most part were left to our own devices for pouring for ourselves throughout the evening. We started with the cheese plate which was very good. 4 choices of cheese, apple slices, dried cranberries, blueberries, jam, almonds and homemade crostini. I thought, wow this evening will be great. Then we waited about 1/2 an hour for the Caesar salad to be delivered. The table side presentation was nice, but long! Then came another wait for the entrees. We both ordered the fresh catch of the day. Our salad plates sat there until the fish arrived. Unfortunately the fish was over cooked and an unappetizing color of gray. No one ever came back by to fill our empty water glasses. My husband had to eat his fish without a knife since that was taken away with the salad plate and never replaced. Then we waited again for the waiter to return to describe the dessert. By this time we were done and we left. The curtains were drawn open while we dined and we got a wonderful view of the nearby gas station and u-haul business. We really wanted to like this place best with such poor service and food, not to mention the view, we just cannot recommend.
Food and service was good. Enjoyed the Piano player and singer. Good wine list.
Had a lovely time here for our anniversary dinner. The live piano music was a nice backdrop. Cheeseboard was delicious, lobster bisque was exquisite, huge wine list!
The service was outstanding. We felt very catered to and Alain was attentive without being overbearing. The table side preparation of the Caesar salad and Steak Diane was a fun experience, and out of the ordinary. The wine list was wonderful and the creme brûlée was one of the best we have ever had. We will go back for sure!
Food is great but could expand menu since it is red meat dominated. Best Caesar salad you can get.
Another great evening with friends who had never been to Le Charenton. Everyone was impressed with everything! We all will be back!!
I was looking for a nice romantic dinner restaurant for our 25th anniversary, this place checked all the boxes! From the pre-reservation call to the greeting at the door this place makes you feel special! We had a card waiting for us on the table, not only was the service excellent but the food was delicious as well!
This is a hidden gem located on the corner of small business' in Folsom, they only have about 12 tables which makes it quaint, cosy and very personal. They have a piano player and others that join in on the weekends to play and sing, since we had an early reservation we missed out on a few others that came in to entertain the guest. We will make sure to come back a little bit later to experience this!
I highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or romantic dinner.
This was my fiance's and my first visit to Le Charetnon and we were very pleased. I found it thanks to Open Table's "10 Best Restaurants" in my area email. French restaurants are somewhat scarce in the greater Sacramento area, so we decided to give it a try.
The restaurant is located in a small, older strip mall in Folsom. Inside we found a nicely decorated dining area with around 10 tables, another intimate dining room with a large table that can seat up to 10 - this room is notable since all their wine is nicely stored around the table. Very impressive.
We had some sparking wine at the small bar and chatted with the office manager (Jennifer) who told us about the history of the restaurant and showed us their wine room/table area. She was really nice. The owner/chef came out and greeted us...what a pleasant surprise! He is quite the character too. As noted elsewhere, Le Charenton has a very extensive wine list and the best part...very reasonable by the glass wine prices...and not just for "house" wine.
For dinner we had the fried Portobello sticks (good), then had the Caesar salad for two made tableside...this is not your typical romaine lettuce with creamy dressing but the actual Caesar salad with egg yolk, vinegar, olive oil, etc...was great! We then split a Rack of Lamb order over Israeli couscous...fantastic! We finished dinner with their excellent Creme Brulee served in a serpentine dish. Also great!
Service was excellent...our waiter was French Canadian and good at what he did. The atmosphere is subdued and the clientele tended (at least the night we were there) to be more on the older side. We also enjoyed the live pianist and later a live vocalist too.
In general, it is a nice place. If you are looking for a happening place like The Iron Horse Tavern in midtown Sacramento...well, this won't be what you're looking for. However, a quiet evening with your honey and good food and wine at very fair prices, this may be worth a try!
