It is very expensive restaurant but the food, service, and particular the wine parings are just amazing, so definitely a special occasion only place but worth the money.
Exceptional tasting menu complete with a dedicated vegetarian menu. Friendly, attentive staff. The whole evening was a real treat - and yes, definitely worth the drive.
I hadn't been there since the bar area was added a couple years ago. It's a welcome addition so a more casual experience is available with the same high quality kitchen.
The husband and I went here on a whim. The menu looked intriguing, and the location only added to the mystery. We both had the chefs tasting menu and cocktails, but will certainly be taking advantage of their stellar wine selection upon our next visit.
The food was sublime, each course was well timed, and the plating was immaculate. We chose the tasting menu to get a feel for the chefs strengths, and explore his reach. This option was chosen, with full knowledge that certain plates we would not enjoy as much as others (personal tastes/dislikes being the reason). The chefs take on many known dishes was a delight, and broadening our palate was the main goal.
Do not hesitate to explore this restaurant, and you will be rewarded by a memorable meal. Go into the experience with an open mind, and order the dishes as they come. This chef will surprise you, and like us you will be returning.
Exceptional food. Kudos to the chef for taste, texture, flavor profiles and general creativity. 5 courses of perfect bites, surprises and unconventional pairings. The service was formal but not snooty. Loved our two servers. There are lots of forks and knives but you won’t feel out of place if you aren’t used to fine dining. It’s expensive but well worth it if you consider yourself a foodie.
Superb meal on the whole. My wife thought that her duck was a bit undercooked. This was our fourth visit to L’Auberge and we love it.
Fantastic meal. Christian the sommelier was outstanding!
Beautiful setting near the VA blue ridge. Great good and hosts. Also a romantic bed and breakfast
Wonderful food and service as always!
Been here several times, usually each course is suberb. This time i actually dodnt care for one, the salmon, and not impressed by the another, lamb.. I also was ill fpr 24 hrs after eating..while i cant say it was food caused for sure...it just added tp a less than stellar meal.
Service was also below what I normally have experienced there. they seemed shorthanded.
Attentive staff, excellent food, wonderful presentation. Small, quiet and memorable. Dined in February, will return in the spring to fully appreciate surroundings.
The food is prepared well and is always tasty. They have a very large wine selection and a nice bar area. The dinning room is cozy, intimate and nicely decorated. We always enjoy eating here.
The staff was so friendly and informative. They made us feel welcome and well cared for. Being new to French cuisine was no hindrance. It really was an adventure. We enjoyed the food and the fine details including the brilliant presentation. Thank you for an exciting evening out!
Perfection. My husband and I are blown away every time we eat at LB. We had the tasting menu for pre-valentines and it was spectacular. Every course introduced and paired perfectly with a wine. Plenty of food but not overly full - again it was exactly what you want in a romantic evening for two. I love ❤️ this place. It is close enough to DC to make an evening of it - or just stay at the inn for the night. We have done both, but prefer to stay overnight and enjoy the wine paring. Lovely staff and scenery- picturesque.
A little pricy but the food was well deserving and worth it. Look forward to coming back soon
Amazing food, staff, and wine selection! A hidden gem; worth the drive!
We got married at L'Auberge, so we try to go back as much as possible, either on our anniversary or New Years. This year we brought friends who had never been. I think we may make it our new New Years Eve place! Food was incredible.
We enjoyed the PreFixe dinner on New Years Eve. We started with drinks in the bar and then were seated at a wonderful table. Everything was wonderful including excellent Fois Gras, octopus, lobster tail and duck. The white chocolate Brie cheesecake was awesome. A wonderful special dinner.
Staff were amazing. Food was out of this world. Will absolutely come back. Can't say enough about this place!!
My husband and I celebrated Christmas Eve at L’Auberge Provençal. We had the chefs tasting menu with wine pairings. I can honestly say it was the best meal I have ever had. The food was fresh, creative and cooked perfectly! Each wine paired perfectly with each course. I would definitely return!
Four of us felt pampered at the Inn and the Restaurant on Christmas Eve. It was the most luxuriously relaxed atmosphere. No rushing you out the door here. Whoever reviewed below saying they want more color or fro-fro is crazy. The new decor is stylish, chic, and clean. Space between and among the tables. Conversations were not able to be overheard. Lots of windows and views of the mountains. I loved the Escher-like restroom flooring! Yes, they wait (as they should) for everyone at your table to complete their course, before serving the next to all others at table. Miles, our excellent server, was friendly and efficient. Every course was beautifully plated, flavors were unusual but matched and nothing overpowered the other - blending naturally and not so self-consciously as some chefs are prone to do. If you want a place to breeze in, eat without smelling (the roses) or chewing, and breeze out again - go somewhere else. On the other hand, if you want a special night out, go to L'Auberge Provencale. I recommend staying at the Inn as well, so you don't have to drive back home. With your room at your doorstep, you simply open the door, light up the wood fireplace in your room, and sink into the comfortable arm chair...reminiscing about the meal and wine you just enjoyed...and if you need ANYTHING, the Inn's major domo, "Bentley" is at your service...there's a reason the Inn is included in the Select Registry book...ah....
We were celebrating our sons 16th birthday and we each choose the 5 course meal. Each selection was delicious and quite beautiful! The beets and lobster courses were our favorite out of the five courses. We loved how the food was presented and took pictures to share with friends. The service was excellent.
Held our office Christmas lunch here. As always, food and service were fantastic. Lovely place
L'auberage has been a special place for us for many years. Along with special personal occasions, such as wedding anniversaries, this has been where we have taken each of our four daughters for her twenty-first birthday (the oldest is now 42). In all that time the quality of the food and the service has continued to be exemplary, along with the country ambiance. It has always been worth the hour's drive it takes to get there. We have never stayed at the Inn there. Perhaps for our 50th Anniversary.
Great food, haphazard service. The chefs are outstanding and every dish is carefully prepared and presented. Service is friendly but amateurish and needs significant improvement.
We all had the Chef's Tasting Menu on Thanksgiving day. It was absolutely delicious, and the service was impeccable. We had an extremely enjoyable time there, in a most beautiful setting. The icing on the cake (so to speak) were the turkey leftover sandwiches, complete with dressing and cranberry sauce, which they prepared for us to take home with us. Although we didn't try it, they now have a pub opened for drinks or lighter meals. I look forward to going their with a friend for lunch.
Miles our waiter and wine advisor was excellent. We will return soon with friends and family.
Excellent but seemed a little off their game. We visit once or twice a year and absolutely love it. They were just a bit off their usual excellent levels. Service was a tad slower. Cauliflower volute a touch salty. My plate seemed a bit on the cool side. Overall, still excellent and we will surely be back.
Truly outstanding in every that an upscale restaurant should be. Best around for at least 25 miles or more
Again, beyond excellent. Attended a wine pairing brunch with Virginias 2 best wineries--Linden and RdV. Owner Celeste and Christian are the perfect host and sommelier. The food dishes created by the chef and staff were creative, delicious and paired perfectly with the wines. I continue to feel that this is really one of the best restaurants in Virginia and the Washington area run by the most pleasant people. Am anxious to try the new, more casual bar area with lighter fair. Thanks for another lovely event.
From start to finish, this was a perfect experience. We weren't sure what to expect. We thought it may be a stuffy experience since it's French. But it was fun and elegant and delicious. The staff are friendly and attentive. Had the best duck ever! Very extensive wine list.
Everything was amazing. We have been to the area 3 times now and I glad we were finally able to finally have dinner here. The service was impeccable and each course was better than the next.
This place was fantastic!!! It was worth every penny! If you looking for a great drive and awesome place to eat, try this place!!!!
Excellent and imaginative food. Very attentive but a bit slow service. Quite expensive price fixed menu with no chance to order less.
Came for my wife's 50th birthday. The service was outstanding and the decor and ambiance were beautiful. The food was very good overall but one of the tasting menu items was not to our liking (the duck breast was cooked rare). The other items were beautifully presented and delicious. Overall a very good meal but I would have felt better about it if it wasn't quite as expensive.
Every bite was perfectaly done and portioned. Lovely wine menu. Very pricey however. $100 minimum per person without alcohol
Excellent modern French food and service. The local duck breast entree was best duck I've ever had. The butternut squash bisque was amazing.
Amazing food and wonderful people! We always have a Fabulous experience when we go to L'Auberge
I am not fond of staff speaking in pl 1st person i.e. "And what have we decided?" "would we like to see the desert menu?" etc. Really? You are you, and we are we (the customers), and it's presumptious for you to insert yourself into my dining party. Or speak to us as if you are the playground monitor. This is not a deal breaker, but our group's personal preference.
There is nothing soft about the decor, to absorb sound. But the food was excellent so we will be back
I loved the energy and passion of the sommelier. His selections were perfect matches, complementing my 5 courses. The food was good, however outside of the soup all of my dishes were served lukewarm. I did not say anything until it came to the steak. Steak is not something I enjoy on the cool side. The waitress actually had the gall to say it was because I ordered the steak medium rare. Well, then why is everything on my plate the same temperature? The mushrooms, the mashed potatoes, the sauce? She walked away and when I called her back to point out everything was the same temperature, she became overtly irritated. But my food has been “cool” all evening and this is the first time I’ve troubled you to take it back. No, I didn’t say that. No she did not offer an apology on behalf of the kitchen, but she did take it back to warm up. And then stayed away the rest of the evening. Perhaps she should have had the night off or shouldn’t be in service to begin with. Prior to this final course, she brought the dessert menu and set the table as though we were having dessert. Not a big deal, but her attitude - especially later, over my lukewarm meal was off putting. The 3 stars are for overall service - the sommelier and another guy who frequented the table also waited on us, otherwise I’d have to lower it. I will not be back, nor would I recommend this restaurant. Food was good, but not worth the overall experience.
