Recommended in the MICHELIN Guide for California 2021-2023. Located in Oakland’s historic Grand Lake District, Bardo is a neighborhood lounge and restaurant inspired by the comfort and camaraderie of a mid-century dinner party. Drawing on the celebration and elegance of old school entertaining, we envisioned a space for friends and neighbors to enjoy amazing food, cocktails, conversation and great music. Our lounge is a swank living room, furnished with hand-picked finds from antique and vintage markets from Palm Springs to Portland. Our mezzanine dining room features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal supper-fare with local and sustainably sourced meats, fish and produce. While we think the food, drinks and atmosphere are all great reasons to visit us, it’s the relationships with our friends, neighbors and guests that is the driving force behind Bardo.

Fantastic Food!!! Cute place, great concept! We did the dinner party menu for 3 people which I wish was better explained to us how it was going to served and when - we felt rushed when the first 2 courses were all delivered within 20 minutes of ordering! Once we asked them to slow the pace it was much nicer and the food was still hot when we were ready to get to it, which were the 3 "mains" ... Basically the "Dinner Party" menu is 3 courses of chef's choice; 4 "Before Supper" items are courses 1 & 2. Best to be really hungry if you choose this option, but the surprises were fun. We got 3 portions each of the Smoked Salmon & Potato Pave, Lamb Fritters, and Crispy Polenta, then the fabulous Winter Salad was family style - they were all served separately, but in pairs which was part of the feeling of being rushed - we didn't have enough time to enjoy the one we were eating when the next (hot) one arrived. The mains were Handmade Fettuccini, Garam Masala-Crusted Petrale Sole and Pork-Chop were fantastic! Incredible flavors, textures, and presentation. After all of the "Befores", we barely finished the mains although we made room for the desserts of a Gran Mariner Dark Chocolate ice cream and apple cake which were served with a nice digestif! I highly recommend this place! They also had a nice, if limited, wine list, and the serving staff were all gracious and knowledgeable about what they were serving since we had no idea what was going to arrive, which was part of the fun. A larger group would probably be even better!
