The chef is plainly a cut above what one would expect in this small and understated establishment. His food was deliciously prepared, elegantly arranged on the plate and served with unfussy charm. I was particularly struck by the willingness of the waitress to turn down the music. In restaurants this is often intrusive and inappropriate. To start with it was here too, but on request the waitress immediately turned it down very low. So often such a request meets with puzzlement and refusal, but here it was not. It made all the difference.
