Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work. Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region. In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

Dining on this occasion was not in the grand concourse, but in the riverside view area. This room is not grand like the high-ceilinged marble arched grand concourse, but the view of the river and downtown is very nice.

We eat at SOBA a few times each year and they never disappoint. We especially like dining on their covered deck. The food is always excellent and the waitstaff friendly and knowledgeable. The Dolsot Bi Bim Bap with filet is my favorite dish in all of Pittsburgh. The portions are generous and we often take food home with us. This time we went for my birthday and it was a really nice surprise to find a Birthday Card, signed by several of the staff, when we got to our table. I don’t find the normal desert menu to be very tempting, although we have had some very memorable deserts with some of SOBA’s speciality dinners in the past.

We had a great time - it was a slower Monday night. Our server was fantastic and very helpful with the menu. We had pierogis, sauerkraut balls, lumps, French onion soup, crostini, chocolate cake, cheesecake, and rhubarb pie. The only one we didn’t love was the crostini, but even that was kinda tasty. Definitely recommend
